Work Text:

“I’m tired,” it was all Hange could say following their tense meeting with the Jaegerists. “I’m so fucking tired.”

They stared out the window in their office, which opened up onto a small, quaint courtyard. Spring was budding between the branches of the trees, at the end of each tiny twig, in the nests of sparrows roosted high above the muddy ground. Spring promised change, but in this case Hange couldn’t help but feel an eerie sense of foreboding.

Something was coming, and there was little they could do to stop it. They were just a person. A singular human saddled with the responsibility of a nation about their shoulders, like a noose around their neck. It tightened further with each passing day.

Commander.

Their fingers curled against the sill of the window, knuckles whitening as their teeth ground. A muscle in their jaw jumped, and they were so preoccupied with their own worries that they didn’t hear the soft sound of their office door opening and closing.

The Captain approached them from behind, his face set into a perpetual scowl, though it was deeper now as he watched his partner and Commander ail.

“Hange?” He called their name softly, stopping short of them on the opposite side of their desk. It had once belonged to Erwin, and still bore many of the signs of his previous occupation; clues as to how deeply detached Hange truly was. They hadn’t asked for this, and Levi knew that. They only took up the mantle of Commander out of a twisted sense of duty.

But where else could they turn?

Hange startled slightly, fingers dropping from the window sill, their shoulders slumped and they looked at Levi over their shoulder.

Something in their russet gaze softened at his mere presence, and a sense of intimate closeness pervaded the space between them. Levi narrowed that space, stepping around the desk which had once been Erwin’s and moving to Hange’s side.

“Things just keep getting more difficult,” Hange sighed, glancing back out the window. The sky was overcast, but there was still enough light to reflect off of their glasses and obscure their eye, much to Levi’s disdain.

Levi hummed softly, agreeably, then took Hange’s hand in his, standing beside them so that his shoulder brushed their upper arm.

“I don’t…” Hange swallowed thickly, voice wavering slightly. “I don’t see this ending happily for me, Levi.”

“Don’t say that,” he groused, hand tightening.

“You should just move on before things get too… too… ”

“Things are already serious,” he barked back, irritation tightening his throat, along with the pain of the thought that anything might happen to Hange.

Ever since Erwin’s death they had grown closer than close, though they had never really given speech to that thing which existed between them. It hurt to think about it too deeply. It hurt to think of how precarious their situation really was.

“This isn’t something we can run away from, I don’t think,” Hange bowed their head sadly, blinking their good eye at the cracks in the wood of the floor. Their fingers tightened in Levi’s grip, and they swallowed around a lump in their throat before they turned to face him fully.

Their gaze was shadowed, the color of mulled wine, full up with intense sorrow, “You should run, Levi. While you have the chance. Go to Marley, or somewhere further. Just get the hell out of here before things get out of hand.”

They were begging him to leave? To abandon everything? To leave Paradis and all he’d ever known and loved behind to burn while he began anew? Preposterous didn’t even begin to describe the idea.

“Fuck that, four-eyes,” Levi dropped their hand and slammed his fist into the frame of the window, rattling the panes of glass. “You can’t just tell me to cut and run, not after all of the shit we’ve been through.”

Hange gave a sordid, strained chuckle, shoulders heaving on a half sob as they moved to lean against the desk. They kept their eyes cast downward as they spoke, “I don’t want to see you get hurt, smalls. I can’t even stomach the thought.”

Levi kissed his teeth before closing the distance between them once more. He laid his hands on the desk on either side of their hips, forcing them up and on to the hard wood surface. Ducking his head, gritting his teeth, he forced Hange to meet the slate grey of his eyes.

“You really think I’d agree to leave you alone, shit-brains? After everything you really think I’d fucking up and run?”

Hange flushed slightly, looking away. But Levi wasn’t having it, craning his neck upward he met their lips in a searing kiss, eliciting a small, shocked gasp from Hange. But slowly, delicately, they returned to kiss, parting their lips and allowing Levi’s tongue to pass unhindered.

It was slow and easy as they savored the intimacy and closeness. Levi pressed between Hange’s spread thighs, not in a show of arousal but to indicate to them how desperately he needed them; their proximity, their breath against his mouth.

When they parted his eyes flashed dark and dangerous, and he pushed Hange further onto the desk before kissing the corner of their mouth, then their cheek and jawline. He trailed fiery kisses down the column of their throat, then unbuttoned their coat enough to suck a pretty, claiming bruise into their collarbone.

Hange ran their fingers through his hair, moaning softly at the contact and the heat which stoked between them.

They’d never done this on Erwin’s desk before. It felt disrespectful, but suddenly neither of them could bring themselves to care.

Humming thoughtfully, Levi sank down to his knees, hands running smoothly along the hard lines of Hange’s thighs.

“What’re you— Oh ,” They choked as Levi’s fingers made quick work of the button and fly on their trousers. He pressed a scalding kiss over their clothed center before urging them off the desk long enough for him to strip them of their trousers and underthings.

Once they were half naked, he urged them back onto the desk as he sank down between their thighs, which quivered in anticipation.

Levi looked up at them, holding their wine colored gaze as he leaned forward and pressed a reverent kiss to the wild thatch of russet hair over their mound.

“ Levi ,” Hange whimpered, holding his eyes with equal intensity, “You don’t have to— shit .”

He wasted no time in licking a hot, wet stripe up their center, through their folds and ending at the hard bud of their clit, which he instantly sucked onto. Knowing every single way to play Hange’s body, he dipped two fingers into their folds, teasing along the wet heat of their entrance.

Three easy, lazy words hung on the edge of his tongue as he worked Hange’s clit in gentle circles, making their knees tremble on either side of his head.

It would be such a simple thing to speak them aloud. To give them life. But he couldn’t. Wouldn’t . Not when such sentiments of the heart could so easily monopolize their lives.

His fingers pressed deeper, curling gently up to the second knuckle and making Hange’s hips twitch on the desk. Wetness leaked past his digits, down and onto a pile of papers which were now thoroughly soiled.

“ Levi ,” Hange whispered his name, fingers raking through his hair, urging him on repeatedly as he pulled back to give their cunt another wide lick.

He then settled back onto their clit as his two fingers sank in up to the final knuckle, curling expertly backward so the pads found that sensitive spot which made Hange whimper and beg.

“ Right there, Levi, ” he hummed against their clit, sending vibrations shooting up their spine as their back began to bend and they dropped their hands to white knuckle the desk.

“‘M gonna come,” Hange slurred, blinking lustily down at Levi, meeting the man’s eyes as he worshiped between their thighs. “So close.”

Holding their gaze with eyes like molten steel, he redoubled his efforts, curling his fingers faster and more insistently in rhythm with his lips and tongue over their clit. His jaw began to ache from the effort, and he slurped noisily without ever breaking eye contact.

“Fuck,” Hange rasped and they doubled over, hands curling lovingly into his hair once more as they twitched and came wetly against Levi’s fingers and tongue.

When he pulled back, panting, his lower face was painted shiny with Hange’s essence.

Hange stared, admiring openly for a moment before offering him the handkerchief from their coat pocket. He was such a beautiful man; face wet, pupils blown, nostrils flared with his hunger.

“Do you, um…” Hange staggered weakly to their feet as Levi helped to pull their clothes back into position. “Do you need me to return the favor, Captain?”

He was hard, a fact which was difficult to hide. Aching in his trousers, he tucked himself into his waistband, “This was about you, Commander.”

His reply was cool. He’d get off in the showers later.

Hange gave a shaky nod, breath still coming uneven as they recovered from their orgasm, “Levi?”

“Hmm?” He blinked at them lazily, fingers curling into their hips and pulling them flush to his chest. He kissed them again, slow and tasting of their own cum.

“I… um… I think I might—

“Shhh,” Levi shushed them, then pressed his face into their neck to hide his elated expression. “Don’t say it. It’ll just make everything harder.”

Slowly, Hange wound their arms around his middle, crushing him close, savoring his warmth.

“You’re right.”

And in truth, it didn’t need to be said.

They both knew.
