Family Sticks Together

Summary:

What if Powder wasn’t left behind when they went to save Vander.

What would happen then? How would the future change?

Chapter Text

“I need you to sit this one out, Powder,” Vi told her sister.

“What,” she walked towards her sister, “but I’m not afraid.” Powder said. She put her hand on Powder’s shoulder. “It’s too dangerous.”

“But families stick together, you said it yourself.” She opened her mouth, to say -something, anything, she didn’t know- but before Vi could start talking Powder shrugged off her hand and continued.

“You said I was ready, and Vander will need help!” Her sister shouted. Vi was surprised at her outburst. “I kn-know I’m not good at fighting, but I can help Vander while you guys hold anyone off” Powder seemed to get more steam as she spoke. “I can bring monkey for distractions even if he might not work, and-and the arcade is on the way so I can use the gun from there,” she stammered out.

“That guns useless in a real fight,” Mylo said from behind her, “But she has a point. We’ll need all the hands we can get to save Vander, and we can’t help him and fight at the same time.”

She didn’t like how she was losing control of the conversation.

“I know you don’t want to place her in danger Vi, but if we dont save Vander, all the Lanes will be dangerous.” Claggor started talking as well, usually they let her and Powder talk without intervening. But maybe this job is too important. “Without Benzo there will be no one left to keep the peace, and if what you said about that monster is true.” He sighed, “I don’t want Powder hurt any more than you do, but we can protect her while she’s with us. The last drop isn’t completely safe without Vander either.”

Her sister looked hopefull, her eyes were still shining. She stood straight, not hunched over like normally. She looked like she was prepared to take on the whole world. Powder looked ready. “He’s my father too, just like Mylo said.” Powder said.

She sighed. She was gonna regret this. She knew it.

“Ugh, Fine,” she said finally, “but you listen to every word I say, alright. You don’t wander, you stick to me like glue, and if I tell you to run, you run, okay.” Her sister dived around her middle.

“Thank you Vi.”

<{^+^}>

Powder couldn’t believe they had found Vander so quickly. It was as if it was fate. She quickly hugged Vander while he and Vi were talking, she looked around for a key. She started moving to the door to see if it was hanging just outside, and startled away from the opening- or was it a door, maybe more of an gate, with the way it looked to be able to slide shut- when the sound of clapping echoed around the warehouse.

Clap.

“Welcome,”

Clap.

Clap. “You have my congratulations,” The creepy guy –Silco she assumed– spoke as he stood at the other side of the walkway. “but I’m afraid this will be a very short reunion.”

She followed Vi and they hid behind the door. She helped her sister put Vander’s gauntlets on. Vi had tried to mimic Vander a few times when they were younger, playing, she had imagined they would be fighting enforcers. Not other fissure folk, not their own people.

“Have you heard the rumor?” She tightened one of the straps while Vi picked up the other gauntlet. “Vander the Coward fled town with his children, and he was never seen again.” Vi used her mouth to tighten the last strap.

Mylo was busy freeing Vander, she could see his hands shaking out of the corner of her eye, and Claggor was trying to pry the metal off Vander with his Knife. She didn’t know what she could do to help.

Vi stepped out into the open, “Claggor try and find another way out of here, Powder help him.”
Powder wasn’t fighting, the fight hadn’t even started, but she was out of breath, hyperventilating. Her sister walked out of the room.

“She’ll be fine,” Claggor whispered, a shaky grin sent her way. “It’s Vi, she’s our best fighter.” The sounds of fighting started behind her. “She has to be fine,” He muttered. They moved towards the walls of the room.

She was dragging her hand along the wall and found a weak spot, she quickly dragged Claggor to her. “Right, this’ll work, good job” he said. She looked back towards Vi. She was fighting off two people, moving back and blocking their attacks.

Claggor had grabbed a metal rod off of his backpack, and was beating at the brick, creating a hole. She tried find a metal rod like he had, but couldn’t find anything. Her heart was pounding in her head. Matching Her sister’s fists crashing into Silco’s goons, Matchi-

There was a scream, a animal cried out, it was the guy who had attacked them after the job in Piltover. His skin was ashen and his veins glowed purple. He stumbled towards Vi. She had to help her.

Her sister ran at him, she jumped off of the railing, bringing her hands up for a downward smash, and was caught by her throat.

Vander was yelling towards Silco, she grabbed moussy and filled him with spikes, screws and explosive powder.

The monster growled and shoved her sister to the ground, she landed hard. Powder had to act now. She popped moussy’s head back on, twisted it and stepped forward.

“Hey, why don’t you pick on someone your own size!” She shouted. She pulled the pin and tried to throw moussy over his head, but it only landed next at his feet. Silco chuckled. Moussy started to shake. “Please work, please work.” She whispered.

Vi started crawling towards her. She heard a clang from behind as another limb of Vander was freed.

Moussy popped. It was only a little explosion, but it was right next to his foot so a few bits of shrapnel shot into his leg. She moved forwards to help Vi. Her heart started pounding. She was cheering a little internally at Moussy’s succes.

The monster roared, not necessarily in pain, but more like he was angry. They were almost in the room.

Pound.

The monster started running. She held on to Vi as her sister pushed her along.

Pound.

They stumbled.

Pound.

They fell.

Pound.

The monster was reaching towards them, roaring.

Pound.

Her panic was accompanied by a screech.

Pound.

The gate shut.

Claggor had closed the gate.

She gasped.

“Thank you, Claggor.” Her sister said, “you saved us,” she added. Powder nodded in agreement. She shuddered. He flashed them a weak grin.

He sank down to the floor. The monster started pounding on the gate. They could hear him, growling, on the other side.

Everyone took a breath.

“You did good,” Vander rasped. “all of you.” Mylo cheered as the last lock was opened. “Now lets get out of here,” he added, “that door won’t hold for long.” It started denting.

“Claggor, Mylo you first, Me and Powder will help Vander get down.” They nodded and jumped out of the hole in the wall. Soft thuds the only sounds of their landing.

They each took one of Vander’s arms over their shoulders and helped him move over to the wall. “Alright, Powder,” her sister said, “can you widen the hole a little.” She started kicking out a few more bricks.

“Be careful now, alright.” Her sister said, “we don’t want to injure him even more.” They stood at the edge. “I’ll be fine.” He grumbled.

“You did good Pow-Pow, I told you they’d work,” her sister smiled at her, “now let’s get out of here.”
