Work Text:
“Dear future husband....Here’s a few things... you need to know if... you wanna be my one and only ~all~ my life.” The soft voice and piano drift across the apartment, drawing Peter out of the bathroom. Towel wrapped securely around his waist with a second one being used to ruffle the remaining water out of his hair. He drops the second one on the way into the bedroom. Peter throws on a pair of pants and Wade’s Golden Girls t-shirt.
The song has kicked into gear by the time Peter is leaving the bedroom, Wade’s voice chiming in from the kitchen where he’s swaying in a new outfit. The tight dress and fluffy jacket fit the song and stand out against the shadows of the rest of the apartment. He looks like a multi-colored fluffball with legs for days. Wade wanders over, now directing the lyrics at Peter, twirling, and nearly skipping with the song. He grabs Peter’s hand and ushers him to a chair in the kitchen, it had been pulled out from the kitchen table and was clearly planned ahead.
Once Peter sits, Wade starts dancing around him in a circle. He’s acting out each line in the song and wagging his finger at Peter, to make him laugh. Peter keeps his eyes on Wade and sways back and forth with the song. The song begins to come to a close and Wade walks to stand in front of Peter, eyes jumping around Peter’s face, too nervous to settle on his eyes.
“Future husband, better love me right.” The last note plays and Wade inhales before dropping smoothly to one knee, popping open the box that appeared from nowhere. Peter freezes and can’t make himself look from the box. The moment stretches and Wade’s hands are shaking a tiny bit, Peter follows that movement up Wade’s arm, past his shoulder, along his chin until he gets to his eyes. They glisten, the blue looking like it’ll fall out of his iris’ in a second.
The moment holds almost too long, a silent conversation occurring with quirked eyebrows and clenched jaws, fear neither will acknowledge nearly spilling over. Then, Peter is nodding and throws himself around Wade, holding on tight even as they fall over and land on the floor.
The ring finds its way to Peter’s finger and sits there, a perfect fit from when Wade measured the finger while Peter slept, trying not to set off his spidey sense. It took 5 tries and included such wonderful excuses as “There was a bug!”, “Your fingers looked lonely without mine in between them.”, and “excuse me for being so thoughtful as to paint your nails while you slept,”. Peter kept the red nail polish from that excuse on all week, none the wiser. The ring is silver and simple with an etched web centered on an imbedded red gemstone. It warms quickly and feels like the best weight Peter could have imagined. The words don’t come but Peter holds tight onto Wade and Meghan Trainor said it well enough for both of them.
His future husband, he wants to be his one and only all their lives.
