Chapter Text
The cool breeze ruffled Janus’ hair. This had gone so far out of hand. He’d known it since it had first begun.
Humanity.
He had been the first to doubt, but of course, nobody trusted him. He was the trickster god after all.
Alas, here he was, staring at the first real civilization. Something in his gut told him this would lead to something greater.
Something worse.
Janus narrowed his slitted gaze. He needed to find Patton. A gust of wind whipped by and brushed him away as if he had never been there to begin with.
The Guardian of Animals lay peacefully basking in the sun. The ground under them was teeming with life. Unpolluted. Clean.
”Patton, what have we done?”
The one in question lifted their head from the grass. “What do you mean?”
“Oh, you know exactly what I mean.” Janus’ form was tense.
Patton frowned. ”I am afraid I do not. Must I summon the others?”
“We have created a darkness, Patton; an evil that will consume the world we were meant to protect. Why are you so unable to see what we have unleashed?”
”Janus, what are you talking about?”
”Humanity, Patton!” the Guardian of Deception’s words rustled the trees surrounding the alcove. “Humanity will destroy us, and you are blind to the notion.”
”You should leave. You should take that poor, troubled child of yours and leave.”
The air was still. “Remus is hardly a child—“
”Just go, Janus!” Sobs wracked Patton’s body. “Go before I think better of it.”
That was ten thousand years ago.

Thomas wiped his forehead as he plopped down an overturned empty cardboard box. He had officially decided he’d had enough of moving. Although, he had had to move here because he’d gotten a good job opportunity. Unfortunately, he didn’t start work until next week, so in the meantime, he didn’t really know what to do. He pulled out his phone with a sigh to check what was happening in this town. Apparently, there was a local theater that had a performance that night.
And tickets were first come first serve.
And there were plenty unclaimed seats.
It would make for a perfect outing, so Thomas seized the opportunity. He arrived at the theater and quickly paid for a seat just in time. Throughout the entire show, Thomas noticed how incredibly well done the special effects were. He would have to commend the SFX team after the show. Thomas left the theater with a smile plastered on his face. All in all, it had turned his night around. He’d have to come back to see some of their other shows later on. He laid down on his newly made bed with a yawn. He’d gotten a lot done today and still had more to do tomorrow. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he thought he could’ve done more in the meantime, but he tuned it out pretty quick.
He had no idea what was in store for him.
