Chapter Text

Hi, journal! My name is Izuku Midoriya. I’m going to try to write about what happens in my life here. I have no one else to be able to honestly talk to, so I’m typing in this digital journal. Fun fact- I can almost write as fast as I type. I have a bunch of notebooks, but my handwriting isn’t the best, so I decided to type in this online journal. Also, if someone tries to throw my computer into a pond or something like they did with my notebooks, I can be worry-free, because I save all my work and that way I can access my work if I happen to get a new computer somehow.

Today I ate a peach muffin for breakfast that my mom made (she’s the BEST cook. No room for argument there) and got ready for school. Slinging my bag over my shoulders and heading out the door, dread pooled in my stomach and a jittery knot formed there as well. I didn’t look forward to getting to school. But my walking led up to my being at school, of course, and so I took a breath, encouraged myself with positive thoughts, and kept walking.

As I made my way through the hallways towards school, someone shoved me towards the lockers and I tripped over my own feet. Somehow I didn’t drop my books… People spitted at me and elbowed me purposefully as I made my hazardous way to class.

I like school. Well, I mean, I like the SCHOOL part of it, not the… social part of it, if you get what I mean. I guess you can guess why. If not, sorry, but you need to work that brain of yours more. Like me.

I’m sort of my own hero. I’m my best friend, I know that. A person who has no one to help them has to learn to be a friend and helper of themselves. Sure, All Might IS inspiring, and actually helped me a ton by how great he was, but I’m not All Might. I don’t have a quirk like most other people. People really tend to look down on me for that, and I know that’s not right. But anyways, it is what it is. I can’t change it much on my own. I have to make the best of what I have in life. I’m always going to be sad if I focus on how much it hurts when a person makes fun of me. It still hurts, but I know that I have to keep my head up or else. Nobody can break me because of this quality I’ve had for a long time. They used to break me, sure. But I got up again. I don’t stay broken easily, although there have been a few times.

I sit behind the spikey explosive boy known as Bakugo Katsuki. I call him Kachan, Katsuki-kun, or sometimes, when I get a little sassy…

“Hey, Pufferfish, do you have an eraser?” I asked him, smirking. Nearby students turned their heads toward me and Kachan in interest and curiosity.

“You can get your own supplies, weakling. I thought you were smart? Do you have the capacity to remember your own supplies?” Katsuki huffs as if he’s annoyed.

“I have the capacity. I don’t have the money.” I state, deadpan. Other students giggle. I realized this was a mistake to remind my “classmates” of another reason to bully me. Great. Today would made a little worse now.

Masking my worry, I grinned at Katsuki. “Now do you have the eraser, or not?” He groaned and threw a yellow, half used up eraser at me. I rolled my eyes and clasped the eraser in my hands, waiting for the teacher to continue with his English lesson.

School passed pretty slowly, as usual. People bullied me and picked on me, as usual. I hid outside during lunch to eat, as usual. It had been raining when I ate, and nobody else would be outside, so I ate under a roof ledge. I sat down on the cold, hard concrete there. It was peaceful if not uncomfortable. Then the bell rang after a while, and I sighed, picking up my bento and closing it. I made the trip to my locker and shoved it neatly next to my bag. I have a pretty big locker, so its easy to organize my things and still have it be spacious with everything in it. Then I made the, as usual, hazardous trip to class for the second time that day. Bikai-Sensei, our math teacher, made his way up the the board, and with that, class began.

I took notes carefully. The handwriting wasn’t very neat, but it was legible, and my notes were organized in a way that was easy for studying. Class time passed in one boring wait, and then the day was over. The time for me to grab my stuff without making eye contact with anyone as I rushed out of the building. Luckily, today, I didn’t have any trouble with anyone. I celebrated this small win.

On the way home, as I was walking, I passed a kid with a yellow lightning bolt in his hair. He looked down. I wanted to ask him, but me? Awkward Izuku Midoriya, talking to someone? No thanks. I’d have made a dumba** out of myself. I felt bad, but kept walking home. I craved some time for myself.

As I was walking through a tunnel, something happened that made me extremely grateful the the sense of awareness of my surroundings that I possessed…
