(Don't) Forget and move on

Summary:

In a universe where Katsuki is just a second too late to push Izuku out of harms way, where everything is just a little worse but at the same time not, Izuku is on deaths door. Or bench, whatever.
He doesn't regret it, not one bit, but when faced with the opportunity to end all of this and keep his friends and family save, with the result for him being a fate worse than death, he doesn't hesitate to take it. Dealing with the fallout of his choice is now up to the rest that remained.

Chapter Text

Izuku was in pain. It's a simple statement, but saying anything else just wouldn't work. Izuku was in pain, it was as simple as that, but at the same time it wasn't.

His sight was blurry and there was an insistent ringing in his ears that drowned out the rest of the world. Like an annoying alarm it just wouldn't shut up and just kept ringing.

He'd gladly find this alarm and smash it right now, but he couldn't even move a finger let alone destroy an alarm clock. Not that Izuku would be able to move much even if he wasn't as exhausted as he was, with part of one of the building's ruins on top of him. The weight of it weighed down on his body, making it impossible to move.

And his bones. God, his bones. Izuku's not sure he'll be able to use his arms properly after all this, not even speaking of hero work. A sudden image of Recovery Girl admonishing him for being reckless again and lecturing him on being more careful in the future, startles a sudden laugh out of him.

It leads to a mouthful of blood and trying not to choke on it, while hacking up even more. In a measly attempt to recover, he gasps and his lungs expand to accommodate the sudden intake of air. This proves to be harder than it should be, but at the same time not, because he is still under a pile of rubble.

If Izuku thought about it, he'd come to the conclusion that that wasn't even half of his wounds, but as it was, all his focus was on staying awake long enough for help to arrive or he'd die.

And while he knew it was a fruitless endeavor, Izuku has always had more hope and determination than he could possibly hold. The boy was aware that his efforts were futile at best, but  he refused to go down without even trying.

It became increasingly harder to focus and through the cotton in his head Izuku understood that he couldn't hold on any longer. The last thing he registered was the ashy sky overhead and a last coherent thought before he went under.
