To: My Monster

Summary:

A short monologue from Will's perspective.

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Cold and clammy. Overbearing and obnoxious.

The dread I feel as my worst fears come to life.

Pride is man's downfall. Strong and mighty though you may seem, the monster underneath remains human.

Not interesting, I would say. Not interesting.

Oh, but I learned. I learned of the monster hidden in the depths of a closet of people-suits. Of the man who would occasionally surface to tease and croon at me, as my mind and tongue scrambled to win your approval.

Cold and clammy. Alone and aware.

My corpse as it wakes from its fitful slumber; dreaming of you, always you.

I can’t escape the fever that is our union. The encompassing awe that comes with an explosion of color.

A new tableaux appears and I pretend it is for my eyes only. Someday. Someday, I whisper to myself.

I would nourish and gorge myself on your flesh before allowing another to taste you.

Harsh and weakening. The relief I feel when you learn the truth.

And you will; learn that is. Nothing can ever stay hidden for long around you.

I should be so lucky; so unlucky.

When the blindfold is pulled from your eyes, will you see me, the real me?

Will you meet my other half? The one entrenched in sin? The indulgent one?

Will this be the moment where my gluttony is laid on the table for everyone to bear witness.

I relish in the thought of your discovery.

I tire of these games we play. I am not a mongoose that needs to stay hidden.

No. I am the wolf that delights in chasing prey alongside its stag.

I dream of the day when I need not pretend to be one of Pavlov's dogs. One of Jack's well-trained puppies. One of your pigs.

I dream of the day where we feast on the bodies of our enemies together. Of learning that I am not alone.

Notes:

This is my first time writing a piece for AO3. What are your thoughts?
