Work Text:
It’s weird riding on someone else’s broom, and not in a good way. Miriam stares at the ground, one hand gripping white-knuckled to the worn wood of the broom handle, the other curled over her aching side as she watches the world pass by. Patches of forests dotted with autumn colors next to fields of rippling grass and dots of colorful flowers. Lakes and ponds and towns and little houses all surrounded by nature. It would be pretty, if Miriam wasn’t so acutely aware of how close it all is to being destroyed. And instead of helping save it, she’s here . On Vivian’s broom, going home. To Delphi. Like a coward . Because she’s scared of...what? Telling Kiwi that she has feelings ?
... pathetic .
Viv is saying something. She’s been chattering on and on for the entire time they’ve been flying. Miriam tried to listen at first, but it’s all just clearly exaggerated stories and honestly Miriam does not have the patience to listen to Viv ramble. Especially not right now. Everything hurts right now. Sitting in this position instead of her normal, broom-steering position is annoying and uncomfortable. Her entire back hurts. Really hurts. She feels so bad now for being annoyed with Kiwi for struggling after getting hit by the hero. This is horrible.
Eya. Kiwi . Miriam can just imagine them, right now, perched on Sandra’s broom in their dumb little side-sit, looking out over the view towards Ichor Mountain and singing a dumb little tune. The worst part is that she wishes she were there . She misses them, and it’s been like an hour . She feels terrible .
Ichor Mountain is… basically a deathtrap. She can see it from here, actually. Snow-capped peaks just barely visible over the horizon, past seas of pine trees. It’s huge, and deathly cold, especially with it getting this close to winter. And with all the monsters recently, and the Overseer probably corrupted by now, and the Hero…
Miriam isn’t sure whether she should expect Kiwi to even come back from this. Like, she wants to believe that they’ll back out if things get too tough, that they won’t let themself die on that mountain to try and get the Earthsong piece. But she knows . They’ll do anything for all the people they know and love and all the places they’ve been. They’ll do anything if it means they get a chance to save the world. She can’t help but admire that about them, but it also terrifies her. They could really die up there. And she really doesn’t want them to die.
Pathetic. She’s so pathetic!!!! Scared out of her mind about the dumb mountain nevermind about TALKING to her FRIEND enough to abandon her only friend to go running back home to Grandma Saphy. Yeah, she’s hurt, and it… it does hurt a lot , but like. It’s not enough to really stop her. She could do it. But she’s so scared . Of EVERYTHING!!!
Why is she so useless??!!
Miriam turns away from the view of the mountain peaks and instead stubbornly directs her gaze at the ground passing by. Swathes of land zooming by under her feet. Somewhere past all these hills and forests is a town surrounded by autumn leaves in the most vibrant reds and yellows you’ll ever see, and a little house by the entrance to the caves. She’s going home.
So why does she feel so bad about it?
