Chapter Text
It started out with a twinge.
Your night had begun much like any other night, home from work by five, heading over to Matt’s place by six for dinner, falling asleep on the couch an hour later in the middle of a crappy movie. It killed him to wake you from such a peaceful and drool filled sleep but once you found out you were dating Daredevil, you made him promise to wake you before he went out on patrol no matter what.
“Be safe and come home to me.” You recited each and every time he’d kiss your forehead goodbye, a prayer of your very own that someone would protect him while he protected the city. The night went on with you working on some papers for the next day and slipping into his bed to distract you from the worry and fear that came with the territory of the life you shared together.
“Sweetheart, are you awake? ”
If you hadn’t been used to it, a bloody hand on your cheek at three in the morning would have scared the absolute shit out of you. Blinking away sleep, and turning on the nearest light, your heart sank a little bit to see Matt’s hurt form in front of you, from his cut lip to the suit littered with knife slashes, and what to your horror, looked like a bullet wound. Wordlessly, you took him by the hand before he could protest and sat him down on the couch.
“You know, if you wanted to leave right now, I wouldn’t blame you.” Matt says, a small hiss of pain falls from his lips as you both work to remove the suit, then the blood drenched undershirt.
“And what would I do instead Matthew Murdock? Knit? Start a book club for vigilante lovers of NYC? We made a promise to each other, your secret for my secret, your pain for my pain. You can point me to the door all you want, but I’m not going anywhere. Now, hold still.” Despite the pain, he lets out a little smile, a quick kiss placed on your knuckles before going completely still.
With his hands in yours, you feel it.
A soft tingle from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head, followed by a ribbon of light lighting up your whole body, and then Matt’s. Every cut and scrape that touched the light vanished until there was nothing left but the bullet wound, pushing the small bullet out of his abdomen before closing on itself. Even after all these years since you got your power when aliens reigned down death and destruction on the entire city, seeing someone completely healed and without pain because of something you could do was mind boggling to you.
“ I don’t think I’ll get used to that. You’re extraordinary, you know that right?” Matt asks, his voice no longer tight with pain, resting his head on your shoulder, listening to your steady heartbeat.
“And you smell like every Hell’s Kitchen dumpster combined. Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.“ You said jokingly, standing to your feet. When you took a step to help Matt up, a sharp pain exploded in your skull, causing you to cry out, seeing stars for a second. You nearly tripped over your own feet in the confusion but Matt wrapped an arm around your waist, steadying you.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong? What hurts?” He asks, his hand cups your cheek, listening intently to your body as your heart skips a beat, then another, before settling back into its normal rhythm. The pain dissipates just as quickly as it came and you lean into Matt’s embrace for a moment, catching your breath.
“I’m fine, just a headache caught me off guard. Must be staring at screens too much.” You said weakly as Matt leads you to bed instead, his grip around your waist tightening as if you would shatter if he let you go too quickly.
“I’m supposed to be cleaning you up Mr. Murdock.” You said, hopping into bed.
“You’ve done more than enough tonight baby, let me do this one thing.” He says, returning to you with a glass of water and an aspirin. He rubs circles into the back of your hand as you did as instructed, putting the glass down with a sleepy yawn, the pain gone altogether. When he returned from his shower, he found you already curled up, sleeping soundly. As gently as possible, he pulls you to his chest, tucking his head into your shoulder.
“I’m so grateful I found you.” He whispers and kisses the side of your head, the beat of your heart lulling him to sleep.
Little did you both know it wasn’t just a headache.
Something was very, very, wrong.
That’s all for now! Let me know if you like it so far!
