kiss me if you can

Summary:

Anything that wasn't clearly stated in the rules of the game was allowed. It was his philosophy, and that's how Beomgyu managed to end up making out with his best friend (and crush) during the middle of an intense game of Capture the Flag.

Work Text:

No one had clarified the rules. No one had told him he couldn't do what he had just done. So he did it, and they had won, just as the whistle was blown.

His teammates cheered him on, ignoring what he did to win. The other team called it playing dirty, saying it wasn't fair, but how did they know? It wasn't explicitly stated that it wasn't allowed, it just wasn't thought of.

It had all started when the class had gathered on the field, sitting in their teams as the teacher explained the rules of the game. It was Capture the Flag, a simple yet exciting activity. Of course, the high-schoolers had played the game countless times before, so everyone already knew what to do.

It was simple. The object of the game was to capture the other team's flags and bring them to your corresponding territory. Simple.

Beomgyu was a champion at these kinds of things. He would always win, faster and quicker than anyone else. Yet, he also won because of his tactics. Anything that wasn't clearly stated in the rules of the game was allowed. It was his philosophy.

"...Alright, is everyone ready?"

A chorus of "yes"'s could be heard.

"Okay. Team One against Team Eight, Team Two against Team Seven, Team Three against Team Six, and Team Five against Team Four. Take opposite flags from the team you're against and head out to the playing areas. Team One and Eight, go to the farthest field, Team Two and Seven, right next to them, so on and so forth."

Beomgyu grabbed a set of red flags, throwing some at his teammates. "Who's ready to kick some ass?! Don't grab any, though!"

The rest of them laughed as the boy grinned. They were on the field closest to where they were previously seated, so they picked a side and waited for the opposing team to settle.

"Are you guys ready to be crushed?" Beomgyu teased the others, knowing most of his friends were on the rival team.

"Shut up, Gyu-ah! Just don't grab my ass this time, okay?" another boy called, chuckling.

It was him. The Choi Yeonjun. The boy Beomgyu had been in love with since middle school. They were friends, yes, but the younger had always wanted more with him. At times, he felt like the other returned his feelings, but that was probably because Yeonjun was naturally flirty. He flirted with everyone, including Beomgyu. The boy flirted back, of course, but it stung to know it wasn't serious.

"It wasn't purposeful!"

"We all know it was, Hyung," a silver-haired boy grinned, causing the elder to whack him.

"Be quiet, Tae."

"Okay, are we ready?"

"Yes, Soobin Hyung."

"Okay, let's start! In three, two one, go!"

The team scattered, trying to lessen the other team's chances of getting away from crossing the border.

"Over there! Hyung! It's Kai!"

Beomgyu's head whipped around, a blonde figure running toward where he thought one of their flags was, where it indeed was.

"Someone get him! Go, go, go!"

The male wasted no time before sprinting towards the boy, trying to grab his flag.

"Not so fast, Kai-yah!"

"Catch me if you can!"

Just as he was about to grab the flag embedded in the dirt, the elder yanked one of his flags off his belt, holding it out with a tacky smile. "Caught you, dummy."

Kai rolled his eyes, accepting the flag and sticking it back on, stomping over to the jail in the corner. The elder laughed, going back to his position.

The game went on for a good ten minutes, the same thing repeating itself. Someone attempted to cross the border to get the flag, someone else caught them. Except when they didn't.

"Go! Go Hyung, go! Run faster!"

Beomgyu had crossed the line of cones, dashing over to where he saw a yellow glint. There was a flag in the ground there, so he picked it up and started to run back to his side, waving the flag around excitedly.

"Get back here!" Yeonjun called to the boy, running after him.

The younger took big strides until he was just a few steps away from the line, three people on his tail. Smirking, he leaped into his territory gleefully, holding up the flag in triumph. Yeonjun stopped in his tracks, laughing as the other stuck his tongue out at him. His team cheered, clapping him on the back and smiling.

"One to nothing, and we only have another five minutes left!"

"Come on guys, we can do this!" Beomgyu encouraged, the rest of them agreeing.

"People! Look! He's getting away!"

Beomgyu turned in the direction of Soobin's voice, and his eyes widened. His best friend had taken one of their flags and was on his way back to his side, as his team called out to him.

"Oh no, you don't!"

The boy dashed after him, reaching a hand out to grab his flag. As he lunged his hand out, it missed the flag, and all he got was a fistful of his shirt. Beomgyu suddenly grinned, an idea popping in his head.

Using his shirt, he yanked the boy backward, Yeonjun making a noise of confusion as he was thrust to the ground. The younger had pinned him to the floor, sitting on top of him.

"Gyu-"

Without hesitation, the younger bent down and pressed his lips on the elder's, his hands lacing with the other's.

Yeonjun stayed still, frozen and shocked. Seconds ticked by, the rest of the students quieting down. The younger felt the other not kiss back and began to pull away when the elder untangled their fingers to bring his head back down to connect their lips. The younger grinned, returning the kiss passionately. Yeonjun's eyes fluttered closed, making Beomgyu giggle as he slowly reached his empty hand to the elder's waist, fingering the flag.

Before the elder could process what was happening, the boy ripped his flag off, pulling away from the other just as the whistle blew.

"We won!" Beomgyu exclaimed, smiling widely as the rest of his teammates slowly started cheering.

"Choi Beomgyu, those were king moves," Taehyun laughed, ruffling his hair as he walked past the two to return his flags.

Yeonjun sat up, confused. "I-What just happened-"

"I made out with you on a grass field and won Capture the Flag!" the younger told him cheerfully, to which the elder smacked his arm.

"Yah! Why would you-"

Beomgyu pecked his lips, getting off his lap and holding out a hand. "Because I like you, idiot."

The elder stared at him before accepting his hand and using it to stand up. He stood there for a few moments, before leaning down and capturing Beomgyu's lips.

"I like you too."
