Work Text:
Everyone had heard by then, so how could he not know? Dream had escaped, and Wilbur had been waiting for the opportunity to talk to him for months. Without hesitation, the man stole a nearby horse, and followed the hoof prints. At first they led to Techno’s house, but then a single track led off, so he continued on.
Finally, he came across what looked to be a blown up home, and the man he had been looking for. The lime green hoodie was easy to spot amongst the wreck. Wilbur watched as he closed a chest while strapping a netherite axe to his back. Whatever horse the man must have ridden was nowhere to be found, having probably run from the escaped criminal. He got off of his own and walked over.
“Dream?”
The masked man looked up, startled. He must have been lost in thought to have missed the approaching hooves, but now Will had his attention. The smile mask was chipped and cracked, showing scars on his cheek. “Wilbur? What are you doing here?”
“I’ve come to see you, Dream. Why else would I be here?” Wilbur smiled kindly. “You’re the one that revived me, right?”
The masked man relaxed. He owed this man his life for reviving him, and now it was time to pay it forward. The moment Dream needed help the most was when everyone was against him. No armor, no allies, just an axe found in some random ruin. “Yes, I was.”
“I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to see you in person, but Sam would never let me visit you.” Stepping forward, he held his arms out at his sides, as if to show his savior his living body. “I wanted to thank you.”
Dream smiled, the turn up of the corner of his mouth visible. “Of course, Wilbur, I knew you would aprecia-” He was cut off by a fist clocking him upside the jaw, forcing his mask to fly off as he fell onto his back, looking up at Wilbur with surprise.
Wilbur placed his foot on the axe sticking out from where it was strapped to Dream’s back,, effectively pinning him to the ground. His cold eyes pierced Dream like bronze daggers, showing all of the hatred he held for the man underneath him. “Thank you for reviving me, so I can pay you back for what you did to Tommy.”
Green eyes widened as Dream held up his hands in an attempt to defend himself. “W-WAIT WAIT WAIT! STOP! What do you mean?! I haven’t done anything to Tommy!”
He let out a loud laugh before glaring more. “Do you honestly think I’m that much of an idiot? As if I would believe YOU over my own brother?” When the other tried to fish for an excuse, he cut him off. “Did you honestly think that Tommy wouldn’t tell me who killed him when he got to Limbo? We had an entire three months for him to tell me all of the shit you put him through, and he told me everything!”
“Tommy is a liar!” Dream tried to say as he attempted to get up, pushing on the foot pinning him down. “He lied about blowing up George's house! He lied about killing himself! How do you know he’s not lying about what he told you?!”
“Because he was scared, and you know it.” The response sounded calm, but frozen. “I heard how much his voice shook as he told me everything. How you had threatened L’Manburg to force Tubbo to exile him, how you trained him to do whatever you said while telling him you were his only friend, letting him have a party before throwing away all of the invitations, and how you beat him to death as he begged for help.”
The former convict struggled more, only for Wilbur to press a knee painfully into his chest. “W-Wilbur wai-”
The first punch broke his nose. Blood began flowing into the back of his throat, causing him to cough in an attempt to get it out. “S-STOP!”
The second punch hit him in the eye, causing him to partially lose his vision.
“WIL-”
The third was aimed at his throat. The blows kept coming, and Dream couldn’t stop them. Wilbur didn’t stop, even after the body beneath him had gone still. The grass around them became stained red, and the white porcelain mask was splattered with crimson. Still, the man did not stop, even when his fists were breaking from the force, he continued.
Until footsteps could be heard.
Wilbur looked up quickly, only to see a terrified Tommy staring down at the two of them.
“W-Wilbur?” the child asked, stepping forward.
Wilbur got up and hugged his little brother close. “He won’t hurt you again, I promise.” Pulling away enough to look over the blond, he cupped his cheek. “Are you alright? Why are you here?”
Tommy nodded silently, but his body trembled. “I-I came to get the Axe of Peace. W-Why was-”
“He was stealing that axe, Tommy. Do you want me to get it so you don’t have to go near him?” After another shaky nod, the brunet let go and went to retrieve the weapon.
As he turned the body over to get it though, something fell out of the green hoodie’s pocket. A book. Even though it was now covered in blood, Wilbur still picked it up and took the axe. Whatever was in it was probably important.
Heading back to his brother, Wilbur held out the weapon. “Here, it’s yours,” he said.
Tommy took it without a word and watched as blood dripped down the blade of it. A mixture of horror, nausea, and relief made up his expression. “Is he really dead?”
“Do you want to chop his head off before we go? Just to make sure?” At the hesitance he added. “Do you want me to do it?”
The blond slowly handed the weapon back, and looked away as Wilbur walked back to the body to make sure the bastard wouldn’t be able to get up again. It was official. Dream’s last life was gone, and without him, no one could revive him.
“Let’s go home, Tommy. Techno is making golden carrot rabbit stew tonight.”
“I’m not allowed back there Will…”
“You will be.”
