Chapter Text
It was noisier than normal. Izuku woke up and immediately hid under his covers from the wave of noise that washed over him. He started to tremble when he heard footsteps walking down the hall. Mom was probably mad about all the noise, dad too. It was never good when they were mad, Izuku knew that all too well. So he stayed completely silent until he heard a sharp knock on his door. "IZUKU!" mom yelled into his room, "wake up, you have a doctor's appointment in a half-hour, and I don't want to be late." The child scrambled out of his bed as quickly as his tiny feet could take him, Izuku knew his mother would be mad if he wasn't ready for the day. He dressed, attempted to comb his green curls, and tiptoed out of his bedroom to make himself breakfast.
Unfortunately for Izuku, he didn't even make it three steps out of his room before he walked face-first into his father. His dad stared down at him saying nothing, just standing there. Izuke mumbled an apology and practically sprinted into the small apartment's kitchen to get himself a granola bar. He sat at the table munching on his breakfast, doing his best to ignore all the noise that was still just as loud as when Izuku woke up. Izuku was wondering why it was so loud today when both of his parents strode into the kitchen, his mother with her purse slung over his shoulder and his dad looking annoyed as before. He stuffed the rest of his granola bar into his mouth and darted towards the door to get his shoes on before he got yelled at.
Hisashi was annoyed. This wasn't unusual for him but something, a certain edge to his irritation that felt off. Annoyed wasn't the right word either, worried perhaps? Maybe. No matter what he was feeling Izuku still hadn't gotten a fucking quirk, and it was pissing the man off. It should have come in way earlier. Inko said hers came in when she was 3, and his came in around the same time too. So now that his useless child was four and a half he should have manifested one. Maybe annoyed was the correct word. Inko was taking Izuku to the doctor's today, for X-rays or some shit, but it didn't matter, even if Izuku had a quirk it was bound to be weak. His child was weak. He spoke with a stutter and shook like a leaf in the wind at the slightest sound, if he had some strong quirk, then Hisashi was All Might.
Izuku's soft voice cut through Hisashi's thoughts, "Um...m-m-mom, why is-s it s-so loud?" What the hell was this kid talking about. Hisashi opened his mouth to respond but Inko beat him to it. "Izuku, what are you talking about?" her voice cold but slightly kinder than normal. "W-w-w-well, when I w-woke up th-th-th-th-this morning it was s-so loud? C-can't you hear it?" Izuku said, even softer than before. "I'm sure it's nothing," Hisashi replied harshly, talking to Inko more than he was to Izuku. He walked his wife and son to the door and shut it behind them. What was Izuku talking about? What noise was he hearing? Who hears noise no one else ca-was it a his quirk! Hisashi squashed his own excitement. Unless Inko had cheated on him, which she wouldn't have since there was a mutual agreement about their child between them, then it couldn't be an enhanced hearing quirk. So what was it? Perhaps, it was recessive? Inko's telekinesis was a dominant trait, passed on by her own father. His own fire had been given by his father also. According to most schools of thoughts, there two quirks should have paired and made a kid with pyrokinesis. That is what the doctor told him. So what was this?
Wait. His mother. She had a quirk that allowed her to project the thoughts of others. She had a mutation in her brain, the parental lobe (AN:he means parietal lobe) or something. It allowed her to draw a person's current thoughts into her head and speak them aloud when she touched them. It was freaky and a mutation, which she had hidden from Hisashi's father. His dad, logically was unhappy when he discovered he had married a mutant and had promptly divorced her. Luckily Hisashi took after his father, but it appears he is not lucky when it comes to his own son. Izuku had taken after his grandmother. Of course he had. He had always been a burden.
He thought he was rid of his mother when his dad divorced her. But then his father died so he was forced to live with his wretched mom, and her whole mutant family. Then he thought he was free when he moved out. But then his mom kept trying to fix things between them. Hisashi thought he was free when his mother died and he had taken Inko's name to free himself for good, but now she was trying to haunt him through his good-for-nothing son.
Hisashi made up his mind. He was leaving. There was no point in him remaining here when the only goal of his arrangement with his wife had failed spectacularly. Hisashi would join his father in America and be finally rid of this family all together. Good riddance, to Inko, to Izuku, and to his useless mother and all who had ties to her.
Izuku wasn't quite sure what the machine he was in was supposed to be doing, but he did remember the doctor telling him to be really still. He already got an X-ray, that let his mom see his bones. Now the doctors were looking at his brain using the machine he was in, a cat scanner? Why Izuku was in here instead of a cat he didn't know, but he was sure to be extra still. The good thing about the doctor's office was that it was a lot quieter. The noise was mostly gone! Sure the machine Izuku was in was loud but other than that it was nice and quiet.
The machine quieted down and Izuku was released from it a doctor walked in to get him. Izuku stayed quiet as the doctor retrieved him and walked him back to the room his mom was in. He scampered over to sit next to his mother, and the doctor began to explain what the machine had found. "Izuku appears to have a brain mutation in the frontal lobe, this is a mutation caused by a quirk factor. If he had a quirk it would be most likely related to one of the many functions of the frontal lobe. It is similar to how people with quirks related to emotions have either a mutation or their quirk factor in their insular cortex or limbic system." the doctor explained.
Izuku looked up at his mother, hoping she would like his quirk and she would stop yelling at him for not having one. The doctor continued,"I would recommend waiting to register Izuku for a quirk until you do further investigation into what it is exactly. Our front desk can set you up with some great quirk counselors they will really help-" The doctor was cut by his mother's voice, " Thank you so much doctor, but we have to get going, this appointment lasted longer than I expected and I really must get home." Izuku knew that tone. It was never good when his mother used that tone.
They bowed to the doctor and walked to the train station in silence. They rode the train all the way home, walked up the stairs to their apartment, and unlocked the door before his mother broke the silence. "Izuku," mom said, her voice laced with poison and hatred, "go to your room while I talk to your father." Izuku nodded, toed his shoes off, and scampered off to his room. He shut his door quietly and hid in his closet. His parents were going to be arguing and Izuku wanted to hear as little of it as possible.
Inko was pissed. Rightfully so too. Her son, Izuku, had a disgusting mutation quirk. A Mutant! It was only slightly better than her original suspicion which was that Izuku was quirkless, so small miracles, but still. "Hisashi!" she shouted, seething, "come here I want to talk to you!" Inko sat down on the slightly scorched couch, she could hear loud footsteps making their way down the hall and into the living room. "What do you want Inko?" Hisashi asked tiredly. "Well," Inko started, "the kid isn't quirkless, but please, I hope you offer some explanation as to why that child has a quirk factor mutation in his frontal lobe. Please, go on"
Surprise flashed across Hisashi's face, but it quickly turned to rage. "How am I to know Inko! We had an agreement and it is clearly no going to be met so-"\
"Oh don't you dare do that Hisashi Midoriya. I know you know something. If you are going to leave, which I can tell you are by your bags then at least give me an explanation. An out on this if I am being forced to bear that child." Inko pleaded, she needed to do something to not be disgrace, some saw mutation quirks a animalistic and quirkless kid might be a touch better.
"Fine," Hisashi relented,"I'll tell you what I suspect, but afterwards you will never hear from me again. I am not dealing with this and you cannot stop me, by the end of the night I will join the johatsu." Inko nodded, knowing she would have to do this either way and wanted whatever info he could give.
"It appears, that Izuku takes after his grandmother. She was a good for nothing woman. Well I suppose she was good for one thing. Seducing men and tricking them into bedding a mutant. I was blessed enough to not take after her, but it seems Izuku does. My step-brother does as well. She had some thought quirk, but I haven't the faintest clue what it does or how it works. I hate my mother and want to know as little about her as possible. My suggestion, Inko, let Izuku believe he is quirkless. Better to be useless than a monster. He can live in delusion, and I know you know the statistics."
Inko nodded at that. They were finished. Neither received what they wanted. But Hisashi refused to be force with the short end of the stick. Inko walked him to the door and slammed it behind him. Sweet release.
Izuku got out of his closet after he heard the door slam. He grabbed a notebook and started doodling notes about heroes down in it when his mother came into his room. Izuku immediately stood up wondering why she was in his room. "Izuku," his mom said, her voice kind of shakey, "your father left us, he found out that you're quirkless and left." This statement left Izuku confused because he wasn't quirkless, the doctor said he had a mind-thingy quirk! Right?
"B-but mom, "Izuk began, "d-didn't the d-doctor say I h-have a brainy quirk?" His mom looked down at him, her face seemed soft, but her eyes were still cold, uncaring. "No Izuku, he didn't what on earth gave you that idea?" she said, "the doctor said that if you did have quirk it would be a mind related quirk due to a small mutation, but your x-rays showed that you had an extra toe joint, did you not pick up on that? I'm sorry sweetie, I didn't mean to get your hopes up." Izuku was still confused. He was grateful that his mom explained that to him, but... It didn't make any sense. Why was hearing voices? What was wrong with him?
