Again, Izuku needs to tell someone about his problems...

Summary:

(PART TWO OF A SERIES READ THE FIRST TO GET MORE CONTEXT)

Izuku keeps forgetting that no one else can see the vestiges.

This brings the teacher's concern to him.

And he hates that.

Notes:

YES, I GOT IT OUT! :)

So this was supposed to come out earlier but I ran out of motivation so have this now. Also I was wondering what other characters you would like to see in this (I have an idea for Nezu) :)

Also, I drew the scene with Izuku and Aizawa at the end of the last fic so hers the twitter and instagram links for that!

Work Text:

Present Mic, A.k.a Yamada Hizashi would consider himself a pretty brave guy.

Sure, he got scared on occasion, though that was usually just Shou being his sleep-deprived self. He didn’t get scared easily, something he prided himself on. But one of his husband's students just… gave him the creeps since they had moved into the dorms. It wasn't the kid specifically! Just sometimes he’d catch the kid whispering to himself as though someone was responding or glaring at an empty spot in the classroom. Of course, he never asked the kid, not wanting to scare off the already jumpy kid.

But really, it was odd

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a couple days before the sports festival when he first saw the student do something weird.

Hizashi had been walking down the hallway to the teachers' lounge when he saw one of his husband's hero students sitting in front of an old vending machine.

He smiled when he saw the kid. Midoriya was one of the more timid kids in his English class, even though he was fluent in English. When Hizashi had asked the kid where he learned it, the kid had simply stuttered something about ‘my grandma taught me’

(Nana had decided to teach him before U.A, something about it being useful.)

Anyway, Hizashi almost laughed when he realized what his student was doing. The vending machine he was staring at, which almost looked like a staring contest with how intense he was looking at it, was infamous among the staff and older students.

It was an older one, said to be around when Endeavor and All-Might were students (That was true, but was never confirmed). It was infamous for a good reason, seeing as it cheated everyone who used it out of their money and never gave them what they were buying.

By now, most of the older students and the staff knew not to use it though. The younger kids though didn’t know this. So, some students started a betting pool on how long it would be before each new student would realize it was faulty, (  No he never added to that pool, that's just lies! ̶H̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶t̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶d̶i̶d̶)

Yamada has always enjoyed a good prank, what with the countless ones he pulled himself  especially  during his time as a student in U.A. But, on occasion, he would help students out with it.

Said student was muttering, “Did I seriously just get robbed by a goddamn vending machine? I wanted some fucking mint pocky sticks, but nope! I got scammed.”

This was different from how his student usually acted (See, aforementioned stuttering) So to hear him swear not once, but two times came as a small shock to the Pro-Hero. Seeing as how Midoriya had gotten upset enough to swear (He would later realize just how much this kid swore) he started to walk toward his student.

A sudden feeling of calm entered when the kid spoke again.

“I’ll help ya kiddo, Toshi taught me this a while ago. Still don’t know why though.” This time when the green-haired child spoke, it was in a much lighter and feminine voice, all traces of a stutter gone, replaced with confidence and something calmer.

The kid tapped the pad a couple times, then opened the door to the machine and grabbed the mint pocky sticks. “Thanks, Nana! I’ve been waiting for these literally all morning.” He thanked the person, ‘Nana’, who apparently helped him, and walked down the hallway, leaving his very confused teacher alone.

Ochako Uraraka loved her friends.

That was a well-known fact, considering how many times she would tell her friends such. But part of loving her friends was that she was good at telling when something was off with one of them. Case and point, Midoriya Izuku, arguably one of, if not, her best friends.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a well-known yet unspoken fact that in 1-A if you couldn’t sleep at the same time as a classmate, you would both try to distract each other.

Considering the number of villain attacks 1-A had, nightmares and the inability to sleep was common for them. Ochako, for example. Sometimes she dreamt about the entrance exam if she had not gotten saved from that robot by Izuku, though she always woke up before the robot fell on her.

She knew that the school probably wouldn’t have let her die, but it didn’t change her nightmares. So when she saw her friend awake in the common room, staring blankly at the wall while holding a glass of water, she knew what she had to do.

“Izuku, Want to do a movie night? I can’t sleep anyway.” She asked though she frowned as her friend started as he turned to face her.

“Oh! H-hi ‘Chako, I didn’t see you there…” He stuttered, trailing off nervously. He was wringing his hands again, something she noticed he did when anxious.

“It’s fine! Come on, I’ll get some hot chocolate for us.” She said happily, bouncing towards the kitchen despite the tiredness she felt, knowing the heat from the cup would help with Izuku’s aching hands.

When she returned, he was already sitting on the couch. Though he seemed to be in a whispered conversation with someone, no one was there.

“Logistically, yes I could. But you considered this? No.” He hissed angrily, waving his hands around slightly. Even with her confusion, she approached her friend again.

“Who are you talking to?” She asked curiously as she sat down on the couch, shivering as a random chill pressed down on her head before disappearing again.

Izuku jumped, eyes widening when he realized that someone was listening in on his one-sided conversation. “N-Nothing!” He squeaked, shaking slightly.

Seeing that, Ochako decided to not press it on anymore. She told him as much, a content feeling rising in her heart when he stopped shaking.

She loved her friend.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was half an hour later when Izuku fell asleep.

She was happy, as she knew her friend had sleeping problems. If she didn’t know, the brunette probably could have guessed by the dark bags marring his ever palling skin.

Though, an hour later was when the weirdest thing happened. Because of her five-point activation quirk, she often wore gloves, not unlike artist gloves, to sleep. It stopped her from floating on either her or her bed in her sleep.

So when her friend started to float in the air? It was really weird. Ochako didn’t notice at first, as it was only a slight difference. She definitely noticed when he was floating a foot up in the air. “What the…” She whispered, staring at her friend's floating form.

Taking off her gloves, she spoke again. “Release!” She said, hoping to get her friend down if it was indeed her quirk at work. Though she doubted it, seeing as her gloves were on the entire time. Obviously, it did not work.

Suddenly there was a small flash of light, and Izuku was back on the couch.

What the fuck…

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Vestiges POV)

“So we all agree that the green bean is going to be more powerful than the rest of us?” Yoichi asked, looking at the scene.

Nana, who had walked next to him after petting Izuku and his friends' heads, smiled. “Yeah, but that’s a good thing. Right?” She said, looking at her grandson.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tsuyu Asui was a pretty practical person.

She always spoke her mind, which most of the time was pretty good quality. Sometimes though, this made her come off rude. Asui hated that, but she kept with her tendencies.

This was one of the times that she decided to just,  not.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tsu had gone to Izuku for help with homework.

It was nighttime on a Saturday when she did. All of the students in her class had gone home, besides her and Izuku. Her family was on a trip to another part of japan visiting family. Yesterday’s temperature had been unexpectedly cold, so she had gone into an aptly named ‘Hibernation’ during class. Her friend always had extensive notes, (  She had asked him once, only to be met with the reply ‘If I don’t write them I tend to space out.’ That answer in itself concerned her, enough that she told Aizawa-Sensei about it  ) and he loved to help others, especially his friends.

As she approached the door, her green-haired friend’s deadpan voice sounded out. “I swear you pulled those cards out of your ass. There is no way you have all of the five cards to finish the line.” Accompanying his voice was the sound of cards slapping down on the wooden flooring.

Asui knew that there was no one in the dorms with them, as she had mentioned before, all the others were with their parents and family. So why was Izuku talking like there were other people in the room? Students could only invite family on campus unless extreme circumstances and if that was the case she probably would have been informed by Aizawa-Sensei. Besides, Izuku didn’t seem like the type to talk like that to his mother.

Deciding she wanted to see who Izuku was talking to, she knocked on the door. The sound of shuffling cards stopped and only a couple seconds later footsteps could be heard as her friend opened the door. He looked nervous, as though he’d been caught doing something. “H-hi Tsuyu! I didn’t- I didn’t think you would come over today.”

“Midori, you only call Tsuyu when your nervous *Kero*,” She told him bluntly. It was true, the boy had started calling her Asui a while ago and reverted back to her last name when he got nervous.

“Ah- Uhm… yeah, sorry.” He apologized, rubbing his hands awkwardly.

“Who were you talking to? I didn’t think anyone was at the dorms today *Kero*” She asked, again she was as blunt as always. The boy's eyes widened, apparently shocked that she heard him.

“No one! I was just… pretending to play a card game by myself! Yeah…” He told her awkwardly, face redding slightly.

Asui didn’t believe him one bit.

Her friend was definitely good at lying, but he was never really that good with the smaller stuff, like this. His reddened face and awkwardly shifted stance were definitely a big tell though. She didn’t feel like calling him out now, so she just let it go and asked him for help on the homework, to which he happily obliged.

Asui did file that incident for later.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kayama Nemuri, more commonly known as the pro-hero Midnight, was good at reading people.

Whether it was body language or just speech, she was good at it. She had to be since her job came with the habit of doing it. It was also useful with her students. It came in handy when something was wrong with them and had on more than one occasion saved them from someone abusive.

Maybe that’s why she was so concerned about Midoriya Izuku.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Something felt wrong about Midoriya.

What, with the constant flinching whenever someone got close or moved too quickly. Along with that was the way he seemed to be so happy with his friends but whenever a teacher called on him in class he stuttered his way through the answer (Which was usually correct.)

It concerned Nemuri to no end, so she brought it up during the next meeting. Every month at U.A they would have a meeting about students who they were concerned about and the progress or regression they were making. So she decided to speak up.

“I do have a concern for one of the hero students.” She spoke, speaking for the first time at that meeting. Usually most of the children she would teach only needed the occasional appointment with a therapist. Shouta and Kan, being the ones who taught the herolings, would bring up any concerns with them.

All heads turned towards her, a small look of surprise on her friends' faces. “And who would that be?” Nezu asked from his place at the front of the meeting, chipper as ever.

“Midoriya Izuku. I’ve noticed that he tends to act differently around teachers than he does students.” She said, tapping her fingers nervously on her leg.

“What do you mean?” Nezu asked her, looking at her curiously, probably because she brought up a hero student. Shouta was staring at her and if you hadn’t been friends with him for as long as she had, he would look indifferent. She could tell though, that he also seemed curious about what she meant.

“Well, he flinches when some moves too quickly and he flinches even worse when someone moves their hands too quickly or touches his shoulder. Along with that, he seems to be happy with his friends, but whenever I call on him in class he stutters a lot, which he doesn't do with his friends. Though, his answers are usually correct.” She explained, eyebrows furrowing as she talked.

Once she finished talking Hizashi started to talk. “Yeah, I’ve noticed that as well. The little listener is fluent in English, but he almost never raises his hand in class and when he does he stutters a lot. I thought it was a speech disorder at first, but I heard him muttering in English class one day and he never stuttered once.” He said before pausing. “Also, whenever someone catches him muttering he gets scared. Like, he completely shuts down for a couple minutes, especially when Bakugou catches him.”

Hizashi stopped talking and looked at Shouta with a quizzical look. Shouta sighed and started to talk. “On the first day of class during the ball throw, Bakugou yelled at him. I couldn’t make out what it was, as he was yelling way too loud, but it seemed to freak out Problem child a  lot.

Midnight sighed as she listened to what her friends were saying. Truly the green bean of a child was concerning.

Shouta continued. “I’ll look into it, he’s been acting off since we moved into the dorms anyway.”

Nemuri would hold him to that promise.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouto Todoroki used to be a pretty cold person.

While the cold part may be a pun, it was true. He’d been in the hero course for two reasons. The first was that his dad wouldn’t let him do anything else. The second was to try and piss his dad off at every turn. He thought that not using his fire was good, but a certain green-haired classmate of hers convinced him otherwise. So he decided to just be very petty.

But sometimes, the green-haired classmates of his acted very… odd.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouto was good at telling when something was wrong with his friends.

It still felt weird, the fact that he had friends. Natsuo quite literally spit out the milk he had been drinking when he told him that, yes, he did indeed have friends.

So when he became friends with Izuku, he realized that something (  Maybe something similar to him)  had happened to him in the past, but whenever he tried to ask what was wrong Izuku always deflected it. Sometimes, he did it so well that Shouto didn’t realize he’d been distracted until hours later.

During one of his many contemplative sits in homeroom, he decided that if his friend wouldn’t tell his Sensei about what was wrong, he would at least bring it to his Sensei’s attention. With that decision in mind, he stayed behind in homeroom.

“Todoroki? You should be going to class.” Aizawa-Sensei said gruffly, turning to face him when he realized that he was still standing in the classroom.

“I wanted to ask to talk to you after school today. I… I think something is wrong with Izuku.” He said, trying to keep his usual deadpan tone but stumbling on his words slightly. His teacher nodded.

“Go to class Todoroki, I’ll find you after school,” Aizawa-Sensei said, then shooed him to his next class.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouto was sitting in the common room when Aizawa came to get him.

“Come on Todoroki.” He said, beckoning him from his place at the door. Shouto stood up, not paying attention to his friend's curious expressions. (  Shouto didn’t usually go anywhere besides the dorms or gyms after school, so this was a small surprise for his classmates)

As he followed his Sensei, he was unaware of the concern he was feeling.

(Shouta was confused, why would Todoroki, one of his most quiet students, was asking for a meeting. He was already looking into Midoriya, so one of his students coming to him about Problem Child? It concerned him.)

Finally, they reached Aizawa’s office, a plain white door with a plaque hanging on it, his name embedded into it. It definitely was like Aizawa, plain-looking at first but a little imposing.

“So,” Aizawa started when they sat down, “you said you wanted to talk about Midoriya?” Todoroki nodded, secretly happy that he finally was telling someone about this.

He wouldn’t let his friend down.

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Extra vestiges POV)

Nana sat next to Izuku, who was sitting silently on the end of his bed. All of them had gathered in his room when he had thrown his phone at the wall, now looking blankly at his shattered phone. “Izu… what happened?” She asked while Yoichi sat down on the other side of Izuku.

“She- she’s…” He started, before trailing off again. Tears started to fall down his face, startling the rest of the vestiges.

“Kiddo, did something happen to your mom?” Yoichi asked, rubbing a finger over the kid’s hand. The kid stared at him for a moment, before slumping into his uncle's side. Nana started to run her fingers through the kids' hair as the rest of the vestiges found places to sit.

“M-mom, villains atta-attacked her w-w-workplace…” He sniffled, trailing off as he started to sob in his uncle's hug. “She didn’t make it out, did she,” Hikage asked, though it sounded more like a statement than a question. The kid nodded through his tears, a small whimper coming from him.

“Oh kiddo,” Nana whispered
