kiss from the heavens

Summary:

Techno just put his hand on Dream’s, holding the calloused hand from hours of long practices carefully, like it were just a piece of glass, carefully crafted by masters, “Yer all I want.”

And the kiss was like honey dripped from the stars themselves.

Work Text:

“Dude, I don’t know who this is more embarrassing for, you or me,” Sapnap points out, his hand on his hip as he sits next to his best friend, who’s eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their head, eyes burning it something, probably jealousy like the nerd he was, “Dude, come on, stop staring already. I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for why Technoblade is always with Wilbur, it’s not a big deal.”

“Maybe to you, asshole!” Dream snarked, playfulness in his eyes as he looked back at his best friend, “You’ve been happily in love for a long time, like 5 years now is it? Is your five-year anniversary coming up?”

“Oh yeahh, it is isn’t it,” Sapnap pondered, “We’ve done four already, but Karl n’ I will probably stay home, watch a movie, have se-”

“Okay, okay, really didn’t need to know,” Dream sighed, turning back to look at Sapnap, an annoyance in his eyes, “Like really, I don’t need to know about your sex life, Sap.”

“But that’s what best friends do!” Sapnap punched Dream in the arm, “We’re here to love and support each other, Dre! I listen to you rant about your crush on that smartass, the least you could do is let me talk about how Imma get some with the love of my life!”

“Look, we’re not all lucky enough to have met our soulmate in middle school, asshat,” Dream glared, “Besides, soulmates are a figment of our imagination.”

“Yeah? Say that to the fire on Karl’s wrist and the book on my forehead, ya jerk! Jealous asshole,” Sapnap snickered, “Yer just mad because George’s soulmate mark is a guitar and you hate musical instruments.”

“I can sing-”

“Yeah, but like you don’t play the guitar or anything else, besides, that pig on yer forearm is lookin’ awful familiar,” Sapnap wiggled his eyebrows, “A lot like yer Mr. Loverman. Also, I got a peak at his mark!”

Dream snapped his head around so fast, looking at his friend with the intensity of a thousand suns, “Sap, buddy, please, I’m beggin’ you…”

“Well, if only there were somethin’ I wanted fer my five-year anniversary-”

“Are you talking about that shit again?” grumbled a tired, slightly apathetic voice from behind the best friends and there was the third to their trio, “Hey idiots. Is Sapnap talking about how he’s gonna take Karl as soon as they get back to their apartment tonight?”

“I still can’t believe your parents let you get an apartment, Sap,” Dream laughed, “And yeah, he is, unfortunately.”

“Well, Karl and I have been together since the 6th grade, and we're both 18. Graduation is right around the corner! And we’ve both gotten into a local college, you know,” Sapnap pointed out like it was obvious. Dream had forgotten that his best friend was staying here; he’d heard from Tommy (who really needed to learn how to shut the hell up - and really, if he were that upset about the mysterious soulmate mark, he could just google them up), that Technoblade had also gotten into the college he was attending out of state. So that’s why Dream didn’t really feel the need to rush into finding out who Technoblade’s soulmate was. He’d have time, he was sure. It couldn’t be that pretty-boy musician, could it? Dream pondered, they spent way too much time together for Dream to let it go. They even walked home together! On the few days Dream managed to get Techno’s attention, like for a school project or something or other, Wilbur always showed up at some point (although, his soulmate mark looked like mushrooms, which was frighteningly similar to the mushrooms living in George’s room since forever - George’s fascination with mushrooms long dissolved the minor crush Dream had on the boy in their middle school years, because really, even Dream was not deluded enough to think George was a pig-man. Dream did wonder.)

Dream had, perhaps in his imagination, seen quite a few pig insignias around Technoblade’s personal items. Within his locker, which his own locker stood right next to, had pig stickers, pink decorations, and a few other calendar-related items. It made something in Dream’s heart thump. Besides, whenever Dream was with Technoblade, it almost felt familiar, like he was coming home from a long shift at work or an extra hard practice.

“But anyways, I came to let you know… I’ve officially met my soulmate,” George smiled, a rare occurrence in the presence of the mushroom-obsessed, apathetic man, “Who do you think it is?”

“Hm, I don’t know,” Sapnap giggled wildly, “Is he perhaps the only guitar player in the school? Mr. Wilbur Soot?”

Dream tensed, Soot was George’s soulmate? Did he know he was? Why did he spend so much time with Technoblade then? After all… it made no sense! Gah, “Oh cool. Does he know?”

“Mhm, we found out this morning when we bumped into each other and my wrist burned, it was the most painful yet wonderful feeling in the world.”

Burned? Dream wondered, Dream had felt someone burn him before, but only for passing seconds-

“Anyways, Wil, these are my best friends Sapnap and Dream! Say hi, will you?”

“Hello Dream, Sapnap! Oh, the Sapnap from the KarlNap duo? Who's been together forever?”

“Yep, that’s me! My beloved is off with his friend Quackity right now, he’ll be back later,” Sapnap grins, “Space and healthy communication are our secret. Take care of Georgie here, we care a lot about the idiot.”

“But of course, wise sage,” Wilbur grinned maniacally, “He is my soulmate after all. Would you mind if my brothers came over for a bit?”

Brothers… who the hell could possibly-

“Techno! Tommy! Come meet my soulmate’s friends!” Wilbur yelled with a smile and suddenly Dream felt like knocking his head against the wall, violently.

While the others chatted, Techno made his way over to Dream, who seemed to be staring off into space with a sort of wonder in his eyes. Techno had suspected Dream was his soulmate for a very long time. It had started with the first glance at the insignia on his forearm - a pig - Techno loved Pigs, especially within the game, “Minecraft” where his skin was a pig in a crown. And besides, the blob with a smiley face on his inner wrist? It was nearly a dead give away. Dream loved wearing hoodies, especially with smiley faces on them because he deemed them the most comfortable things in existence.

“Dream, nerd, come on, why ya sulkin’ over here,” smiled Technoblade, trying to hide the amusement in his voice, “Yer over here actin’ like yer family just died.”

“What if they did, Techno? That’d be awfully inconsiderate of you,” Dream teased, making Techno’s chest untighten just a little bit, and then Dream turned to look up at Techno and Techno’s gut churned, but not because he was nervous this time. Techno sat down across from Dream, red eyes gleaming as the sun hit it and Techno smiled as Dream’s cheeks flushed red. Techno had always liked looking at Dream. Dream was, quite plainly said, beautiful. He had golden hair that sat like a crown upon his head, green eyes that reminded Techno playfully of the most beautiful tree leafs in the rainforest, and had freckles that were like the stars in the night - gorgeous, illuminating, and guiding.

“Yer right, my bad, Dre,” smiled Techno, “Aren’t ya happy fer yer friend? He found his soulmate.”

“Yeah, right before graduation no less,” Dream laughed coldly, “I hope Wilbur doesn’t fuck up.”

“My brother ain’t that bad,” Techno smiled, aware of the looks Dream had been sending over to the two of them (and so what if it was only because Tommy, somehow quietly, pointed it out?), “He’ll be good to yer friend.”

Techno was delighted in the way Dream seemed to relax at the word ‘brother’, “Oh, your brother? I wasn’t aware y’all were related.”

“Phil adopted Tommy n’ I way back. Wil’s his real kid, but anythin’s better that where I came from, ya know?”

Dream let out a hard laugh and suddenly Techno was brutally reminded of Schlatt, Dream’s uncle and one of the worst pieces of crap to walk this earth, but this wasn’t about him, this was about Dream, and Technoblade, and them, “Hey, Techno?”

“Yeah?”

“You're my soulmate, right?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah?”

“I don’t want anyone else.”

“Neither do I.”

“Cool.”

Techno just put his hand on Dream’s, holding the calloused hand from hours of long practices carefully, like it were just a piece of glass, carefully crafted by masters, “Yer all I want.”

And the kiss was like honey dripped from the stars themselves.
