Colder nights are always better when I have you by my side

Summary:

A sudden snowfall forces An and Sylvain to share the bed. Chaos, discussions and fluff ensures.

Work Text:

An woke up from her sleep shivering and totally confused, because when she went to sleep it was cool, sure, but nothing like the freezing sensation she was feeling now.

Despite the darkness, she decided to take a look outside the window to see if she could see anything. Carefully maneuvering through the room she got to the window and, surely, outside it was snowing heavily. She tried to go back to her bed without waking up her appointed roommate and recent boyfriend Sylvain, who was sleeping on a mattress on the floor after being all but forced to share the room with her. However, her attempts were proven useless since she shortly after heard his raspy voice.

"A-An, w-why is it freezing?"
"It's snowing outside, Sylvain, has this happened before?" She asked, a bit concerned they might weren't prepared for the weather.
"Y-Yeah, it can happen sometimes, let me check something"

Sylvain rose from his bed and turned on the lights, which allowed her to admire his figure for a moment. The rugged T-shirt he was wearing was halfway up his chest, which granted her a small peek at his toned abs, and she immediately turned red. However, soon she noticed that he was trembling while he was searching for something in the closet, and soon after she noticed that she was shivering again too.

"What are you searching for, Sylvain?" She asked, a sliver of urgency in her voice.
"There should be some blankets here, let me check, it won't take long." He assured before continuing his search.

After a while, Sylvain finally found what he was searching for. Hidden in the depths of the closet there was a blanket, which after a quick inspection he deemed warm enough to solve their problem. An felt the relief inside her body, however, it soon quickly disappeared as Sylvain turned to her with a serious and pensive expression on his face. Worried about him, she instantly asked if anything was wrong.

“S-Sylvain, are you okay? Is there a problem? You have found some blankets, right?”

Curiously, Sylvain blushed when she asked the question, which left her even more confused and worried than she was before, though her doubts vanished when he answered.

“Y-Yeah, everything is fine, it’s just that…I only found one blanket, so there, have it, I’ll cover myself with something else, don’t worry.”

As he handed her the blanket and he was searching for something, she finally reacted. “Sylvain, are you mad? I’m not letting you freeze to death while I sleep with this! I’m not using it unless we find a proper way to keep you warm too!” She inquired, fury for his recklessness irradiating from her voice and being barely capable to control it so no one would wake up due to their argument.

“Then what the hell do you want to do?” He hissed back. “It’s not like we can duplicate the blanket, or…” Sylvain went silent all of a sudden, and he went almost as red as his hair as an idea crossed his mind, but he didn’t push it.
However, destiny works in funny ways sometimes, and the same idea crossed through An’s mind at the same time, which provoked her to have the same reaction as Sylvain, but she was brave enough to voice it.

“What if…we just share the bed, Sylvain?” She finally laid the card on the table, and while she was asking, she averted her gaze to the ground, too embarrassed to look at his eyes. She heard a step, and her gaze focused back to Sylvain, who had taken a step to be closer to her. Now, barely any distance separated them, and she could start to feel the heat Sylvain was emanating. Before she could do anything stupid, like closing the distance between them and embrace him, he spoke.

“Are you sure about this?” He sounded worried about something, insecure if this was taking it too far.

“Sylvain,” An sounded determined now, all her shyness left behind. She took another step forward, and the distance between them was now no more than bare centimeters, “I don’t think we have another option if we want to be warm this night. If it’s me what you’re worrying about, there’s no need for that.”

And then, the distance was no more. Sylvain embraced her, pulling her in an urgent hug. She instantly felt warmer with the heat he was producing, and she couldn’t be more glad for it at the moment. She took a moment to enjoy the sensation, not only of not being cold anymore, but also his embrace. Since they started dating, both of them wanted to take things slowly, and sure, they had already shared kisses and hugs, but this felt different, a new level of intimacy they hadn’t reached yet, and she wanted to enjoy it while it lasted.

Sylvain surprised her again, this time burying his head onto her shoulder and standing there. The image would have been funny from another perspective, as he was a bit taller than her, but still he did it anyway, knowing no one would disturb them at this hour. From his position, he mumbled something she barely heard.
“Mmmmhhh, this feels nice…but I’d rather be sleeping right now, and since you don’t seem to mind, can we go to the bed, please?” He then lifted his head, and she could see his face again. He had a small pout on his face, and the tiredness was obvious now that she took a proper look at his soft brown eyes. At this display, she couldn’t help but to flash a small smile at him too.

“Mh mh, okay, but we’ll need the blanket, don’t you think?”

“Shit, you’re right. Well, then let’s get over with this and get some sleep.”

Sylvain separated from her, and she was already missing the heat of his body. Luckily for her, he made quick work of putting the blanket, and before she noticed it, he was already sitting on the side of her bed, patting the side of it, signaling her to join him. She didn’t take long to join as he told her too, neither to lay next to each other on the bed, again being able to enjoy his body heat again.

“Are you okay now, dear?” Sylvain asked, his voice barely a whisper. “You aren’t cold now, aren’t you?”
“No, this is perfect.” She nuzzled against him as she spoke. “It was a good idea after all to date a human heater.”

“Good thing I’m exactly what you need them, huh?” Even with the lights out, with the darkness outside, and the sleep almost taking over both of them, she could imagine the smile he was giving her, the one slightly teasing, the one he used when he wanted her to roll her eyes, but she didn’t oblige. She was too tired for that. Finally, she adjusted herself so she was resting her head over his chest, silently thanking him for his workout routine that allowed her to use him as a human pillow, and after Sylvain put his arm over her, a comfortable, peaceful sleep took over both of them.
