Work Text:
Thursday walked over to where Strange, Jakes, Trewlove, DeBryn, Bright and his Win were standing.
He stopped in front of her and dropped his head. She cupped his face with her gentle hands as tears glinted in his eyes.
"It was wonderful, Fred."
He smiled weakly at her before he took a deep breath and gathered himself.
After receiving gentle nods from the group he turned his back, now facing the hole in the earth.
His eye catched a small glint of metal at the bottom of it.
Thursday took one of the delicate flowers from a small table nearby and turned it in his hands.
Gladiolus plants were chosen to accompany Morse’s soul to the afterlife.
He had no doubt his Win had a saying in that as they embody strength of character, sincerity and moral integrity.
A crackling sound to his right tore him from his thoughts and he listened to the beginning sounds of Madame Butterfly’s “Un bel di”.
After stepping around the table Thursday neared himself in slightly staggering steps to the hole.
His gaze followed the flower as it left his right hand and gently dropped into the dark below.
