Chapter Text
Luz choked out a sob, her hand covering her mouth as she scanned the limp bodies of the witches and demons around her. They had lost, the Day of Unity had prevailed. And now, moon beating down upon her back, Luz, the human, was the last standing.
Well, except for Belos and the Collector.
Belos stood triumphant amongst the sea of bodies, as he readied to bring the Collector back using all of the power and life he had drained.
She felt… hopeless, empty. Defeated.
Then she saw it. Her last glyph, a light glyph, lay on the dead grass, glowing. The final hint of magic still remaining free on the isles. She couldn’t quite place it, but it appeared that some of the magic had gone into the glyph, rather than up into the large, sparking orb that Belos had used to suck away all the life on the Isles.
Well, she supposed, she had nothing to lose. She activated the glyph, and it sparked and fizzed, glowing brightly. It got louder, before floating into Luz.
And, she screamed.
She felt it mix, all at once. It mixed with her blood, her heart rate speeding up, her body getting warmer, full of adrenaline. It mixed with her emotions. Rage, frustration, pain, hurt, sorrow, love, and revenge. Her skin began to glow like a light ball, as she pressed her hands to her head.
It was all too much, but at the same time, just enough. Her mind set on one thing, She shot into the air, wings of light sprouting from her back as she flew towards Belos, who had his back turned to her.
A terrible mistake.
As she plunged through his puny, frail, old body, she felt herself beginning to pull apart. Humans weren’t made to hold magic. She would deal with that later.
Luz got no blood on her, and turned to watch as Belos had stopped dead in his tracks, staring. He hissed out something, before crumpling pathetically to the floor. Luz, using what energy she had left, flew up to the orb that held her family, and smashed it.
She watched as all of the magic spewed out, breathing life back into the Isles. The collector screamed in agony, before silenced washed over the sea. She watched as the color began to return, and the witches and demons began to stand, looking at Luz and cheering.
But Luz couldn’t cheer. Couldn’t move. In fact… She was breaking.
She heard Eda scream her name, and big arms catching her as she fell back, and off of the tower that the orb once resided on. She vaguely heard the cheers coming from below as the two neared the ground.
Then the cheering stopped.
She heard Amity, and as she opened her eyes, she saw all of her loved ones standing before her. Eda kneeled on the ground, Luz’s head in her lap. Amity and King were on either side of her, holding her hands. The rest of them stood by her legs, staring in shock and fear. She knew she had to say something when she saw them all break out into tears, Amity covering her mouth.
Luz opened her mouth, and was surprised how weak she sounded. An echo had toned her voice. “Hey, hey, don’t cry… its- its okay..!” She winced, heaving in a breath. “hey, guess what I did,” she mumbled, forcing out a chuckle as her white skin cracked and peeled. “I saved the Isles, I saved my home, and I saved you all…”
She heard Eda let out a pained sob. Luz knew this was the one thing she had tried to avoid. She glanced over at Amity, who gently squeezed her hand. “It’s going to be okay, Hermosa.. its okay..” Amity was too scared to hug her, afraid that any sudden movement would shatter her love. So, she nodded, and stared at the ground. King, on the other hand, was not so afraid of this.
Grabbing her, he stared, tears dripping down and staining his skull. “You’re going to be okay, right..?”
Luz could only smile.
They watched as her legs began to crumble, the last of her golden light fading.
King’s eyes widened, and Amity sobbed harder. They both hugged her, and the rest of her friends- no, family, kneeled before her. “No, no, LUZ! YOU- YOU CANT GO! YOUR TITAN DEMANDS YOU STAY! PLEASE!”
Luz let a single tear fall from her eye, forcing her hands around Amity and King to gently rub their backs. She looked up at Eda, letting her final smile creep onto her face. “Take care of them for me, okay?”
Eda nodded, sobbing. “I love you, Kiddo.”
Luz let out a gentle laugh, as her body crumbled away. “I love you too, Mama Eda.”
They all stared in shock, Willow gripping onto Gus and Hunter like they too would disappear if she let go. They all sobbed, as what remained of their Hero blew away into the sky.
The Boiling Isles remained, but their light had gone.

Eda, Amity, Willow, and the others, had gotten Belos’ portal working. They had found Camila and Vee, and couldn’t break the news without crying to the point of shaking. By the end, the whole house was filled with sorrow, and pain.
They brought them back to the Isles’ with them, as the whole Island had prepared a Funeral for the human. Camila had met everyone that her amazing daughter had befriended, as they all shared stories about the human that worked their way into their lives one way or another. As balloons floated through the sky, it all hit them for a second time that Luz was gone. Camila fell to her knees before Luz’s grave, and weeped.
Because no amount of hoping would bring back the one thing that brought joy into so many peoples lives.
Luz Noceda: A daughter, a lover, and the most loving, energetic person someone could have ever met; in this world, or any other.
