Harry and Hermione Potter’s lives could not be said to be simple or normal, despite wishing for that. For once, they were a witch and a wizard born in a world where the majority of people believed magic was a nothing but a myth. They were two young individuals who had enough power to match even the strongest and oldest mages in the Wizarding World and, by the time they reached their eighteen years of age, had fought a war and won together.
Now, this alone made them famous and popular, which did not help them feel normal. Worse, they quickly became targets of rising Dark Lords and Ladys who wanted to prove their worth by defeating Lord Voldemort’s conquerors. And, if it wasn’t bad enough, their power eventually made the rest of the population fear them. By the time they were twenty-five, they no longer felt welcome in Wizarding Britain.
Hermione was an avid researcher for the Unspeakables. When the couple realized they were no longer welcome in the world they had lived in since they were eleven, she was the one to suggest they travel to another dimension. Harry thought it was a crazy idea and suggested they simply move to the Muggle World. But Hermione knew it was impossible. It didn’t matter where they lived on Earth, dark witches and wizards would always come after them, ruining whatever peace they had. Not only that, but they had nothing linking them to the Muggle World anymore, her parents having died during the last year of the war in Australia.
It took some time but Hermione managed to convince Harry to travel to another dimension where they could live their lives and grow old without fear of being attacked. It was not a moment too soon as, only a few hours before their scheduled departure, the Ministry of Magic announced they wanted to bring the Potters to the Auror Office for a small interrogation. They knew it was only the beginning of the road toward their arrest.
So, Hermione and Harry did the ritual and disappeared from their home world. After a few minutes of flying around in a grey void, they crashed down on a grassy ground. When they looked up, they were surprised to see an entirely different world to theirs.
This world, as they later discovered, was called Hyrule. It was a small kingdom no bigger than London, where magic and non-magical users lived in harmony. At its centre was its capital which bore the simple name of “Castle Town”.
In the Potters’ first year in Hyrule, the couple explored as much of the kingdom and its surrounding lands as they could. It was as they visited the village in the Kokiri Forest, which was home to a tribe of children, that they discovered some special news: Hermione was pregnant!
With their first child underway, the couple decided it was time to settle down. They hesitated between settling in Kakariko Village and Castle Town before choosing the later. To occupy their time, they decided to start a small shop around the town square where they would sell varieties of potions originating from their home world to the inhabitants of Hyrule.
Harry and Hermione could not be happier when they opened their shop. They never regretted jumping worlds to settle down in a more peaceful one. Despite its medieval appearance, the Potters loved Hyrule and intended to stay there forever.
“Harry?” Hermione suddenly asked. Harry, who had been manning the counter of their shop, turned to look at his pregnant wife who was levitating a giant wooden box with her wand. She dropped it next to the counter.
“What is it, love?” he asked with a happy smile, which Hermione immediately noticed.
“Have you been reminiscing?” she asked in amusement.
“Maybe.” he confirmed with a grin. It wasn’t the first time he did it. He used to talk about how happy he was they were in Hyrule to Hermione. He did it so often she eventually got tired and asked him to stop, something which amused him greatly.
Hermione rolled her eyes. “We need something.” she said.
“Which is?”
“We never bought a crib for the baby.” she said. Hermione had been working on baby Potter’s nursery for the last few hours while Harry took care of the shop.
“I know.” he shrugged. “I thought you wanted to transfigure one.”
Hermione blinked. “Why would I?”
“Because it won’t cost a penny?”
“But it won’t last long!” she exclaimed, making him roll his eyes in amusement.
“Hermione, we’re powerful enough to make transfigurations last for years. Why wouldn’t it last long enough? We’ll only need it for two years – maybe three at the very most – before we switch our baby to his or her own bed.”
“But what if we need it again in more than three years for another baby?”
“Then we’ll transfigure another one!”
“Harry, I want a proper crib for our baby.” Hermione said sternly. Harry sighed, not knowing whether to be amused or annoyed.
Ever since Hermione became pregnant, Harry found she became quite stubborn. Oh, it was nothing new but, before, she argued when there was a good reason. Now she argued on a wooden crib, of all things.
“Alright.” he said. “I’ll go buy a crib.”
At his words, Hermione beamed and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you!” she said before running back upstairs to their flat.
“You’re welcome, and don’t forget to man the shop while I’m gone!” he yelled to make sure she heard him.
“I will!” she returned.
Harry nodded and turned around. Using his wand, he levitated the wooden box Hermione had left behind and carried it outside the shop before dropping it next to the door for someone to pick up later. Then, he made his way to another shop which specialized in furniture.
As he walked around Castle Town, Harry could not help but smile. There was an air to the small town that always made everyone happy. Every day, he could find people talking amiably or a couple dancing by the fountain in the town square or even children playing together. More often than not, there was also a small band playing playful and happy sounding tunes to the entertainment of the crowd. It was a very nice place to live in and Harry wished more than once that the Wizarding populace was more like the citizens of Hyrule.
As he walked by a group of children playing, all of them stopped what they were doing and sang at the same time “Good morning, Mr. Potter!”
“Good morning, children.” Harry chuckled, continuing on to his destination. He stopped twice more, once to talk to another shop owner who recently opened shop and, second, to speak to a guard who had become a friend since they settled down. But, eventually, he arrived at the shop.
“Ah, Mr. Potter! Aren’t you the owner of the new potion shop in town?” the old lady owning the shop asked.
“My wife and I are, yep. We needed an occupation when we settled down to raise our child to occupy our free time.”
The woman chuckled. “I doubt you will have much free time when you’re raising a child.” she said.
“Not wrong.” Harry agreed, also chuckling. “It’s the reason why I’m here, as a matter of fact. My wife want me to buy a crib for our baby.”
“A crib you say?” she asked, humming. “Join me in the back store. I think I have a few that might interest you.”
After looking at the different models, Harry found one he believed both he and Hermione would like and bought it with the local currency: rupees. After it was dropped in a wooden box, Harry levitated it outside and back home.
Unlike on his way to the furniture shop, Harry did not stop once on his return and quickly came back home. When he entered the shop, he found his wife manning the counter and filling a glass bottle with some Skele-Gro for the sole client inside; a man with healer robes.
“I got it!” he exclaimed, dropping the box in a corner behind the counter. “I got the crib.”
“Oh – uh – thanks.” Hermione said absently giving the potion to the healer who promptly left. Harry frowned.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, it’s just...” she started, looking embarrassed. She then said something too quickly for him to understand.
“I didn’t catch was you said.” he said.
“I – I transfigured a crib.” she said, blushing bright red.
Harry snorted and let out a laugh. “You made me do all this for nothing!” he laughed.
Hermione huffed. “You make it sound like it was a hard task.”
“Well it was!” he protested, making her laugh in turn. “I’m all tired and weak! Look, I’m about to pass out!” he whined, putting the back of his hand on his forehead.
“Oh, does the big baby need a rest?” Hermione cooed mockingly.
Harry grinned, went to stand in front of her and whispered seductively in her ear “I’d like it if you would join me in bed.”
Hermione hummed. “We already have a baby on the way. Do you really want to try for a second one now?”
“Are you saying you don’t want to have your wicked way with me? That’s not what you said last night.” he said with a deep voice.
“I could me made to change my mind.” she said, a smile in her voice. “But unfortunately, there’s-”
The door of the shop opened as a customer entered.
“This.” Hermione completed, turning to serve the customer, leaving her husband to wallow in his disappointment. “What can I do for you?” she asked.
“Uh...” the man hesitated. “Do you have a potion that can calm people? My wife is eight months pregnant and has become quite hysterical recently.”
Harry snorted. “I can relate.” he joked, earning him a hard slap on his arm from Hermione, who glared at him. Harry let out an amused smile before adding “Yes, we have one of those. Let me get it.”
“Was that really necessary?” Hermione asked after the customer received their potion, paid for it and left.
“Necessary? No. But you know I like making jokes about everything these days.” he grinned.
“You’re making it hard to convince me to have sex with you, Harry Potter.” he said with a small growl.
“Oops?” he said sheepishly, only now realizing it might not have been the best of ideas.
Thankfully, Harry was saved with the arrival of another customer. However, this customer surprised them very much. They were used to only see adults enter their shop. Yet, a blond child around eight to ten years of age wearing bright green clothes had just come in alone. Not only that, but he had a sword and shield strapped on his back and was followed by a bright luminous blue fairy. He recognized the clothes and fairy as belonging to a Kokiri, but he had never seen one adventure outside the forest – or bear weapons.
“Hi there, young man!” Hermione greeted with a kind smile, all traces of her previous anger gone. “What can we do for you today?
The boy took out an empty glass bottle and a rupees pouch. “Can I have a healing potion, please?” he asked, looking at them with his big blue eyes.
“Of course! What kind of healing potion?” she asked.
“Uh... healing potions have different types?”
“Of course.” interceded Harry. “There are potions to regrow bones, some to heal scars, others to fix the nerves. There’s something for everything, really.”
“Oh – uh – I just need a healing potion. The red one, you know?”
Hermione understood what he was speaking about first. “Ah, you mean a Hylian Healing Potion?” she asked, making the boy nod. “Sorry, but we don’t have any here. My husband and I aren’t from Hyrule so we are unable to replicate Hylian potions.”
It was something they discovered a month before opening shop. No matter what they did, neither of them could make a proper potion. Eventually, they learned that only Hylians – humans with pointy ears – could successfully make Hylian potions. They thought about buying some to sell in their shop but eventually decided to forgo it entirely as it was sold in many other shops already.
“Oh, sorry for disturbing you, then.” the boy said quietly before making to leave the shop.
“Hey, why do you carry those weapons? Do you plan to go to war or something?” Harry suddenly asked with no trace of amusement. The boy stilled for an instant before answering with a quiet “Something like that.” He then left the shop quickly, leaving the Potters alone.
“Why did you ask that?” Hermione asked, not pleased.
“There was something about the expression on his face.” he answered quietly, his eyes still fixed on the spot where he had last seen the child. “It reminds me of what I used to see in the mirror before we left home.”
“You... you think he might be part of a fight bigger than him?” Hermione asked softly, moving to lean on him. Harry brought his arm around her.
“Something like that.” he answered, quoting the boy. “I don’t know what it is, but it doesn’t make me very comfortable.”
Hermione sighed. “Hopefully, everything will be fine.” she said.
“Yeah. I hope so.” he said. He then turned to look at the box he brought earlier. “So, what do I do with the crib now that its useless?” he asked teasingly.
“Uhh...” Hermione said before letting out a small giggle.
