This is Just The Beginning

Summary:

Joker wasn't even original. His plan is to get Batman here and basically try to recreate his death- but with more explosives. Lovely. Hopefully this doesn’t end the same way.

Spoiler alert: it doesn't.

Getting drugged

Getting drugged, knocked out and then waking up tied to a chair was never an enjoyable time for Jason. Well, at least when he's on the receiving  end. He would gladly dish that out to some people without giving two shits. He’d love to see the fear some of those assholes had when getting faced with a similar situation to what they do to kids.

They deserve it.

He’s sure on some level he deserves it too but doesn’t really give two flying fucks. What he does give a fuck about, is who the hell got him in the first place. And well- he really wished he stayed home. Because of-fucking-course his kidnapper is the fucking Joker.

Bitch isn’t even original . His plan is to get Batman here and basically try to recreate his death- but with more explosives. Lovely . Hopefully this doesn’t end the same way.

He knows it won’t end the same way. After all, there’s no way B would let it. As much as it pains him to admit that. No one will know though. Besides, B isn’t the only one looking out for him anymore. Shockingly, he does have a friend that isn’t a bat or a bird. He still really isn’t sure how they’re friends but hey, dead vigilante club.

Jason was trying really hard to ignore the ear splitting (head splitting???) laughs from the damn clown. Instead he made sure his focus was on the chains that wrapped around him and pinned him to the chair. He went through his mental checklist on how to get out.

Can he pick the lock? No. It’s in the front out of reach. Plus the bastard used more than one.

Is the chair wooden so he can break his way out? Again, no. It was a heavy metal that was freakin’ bolted to the floor. So definitely not.

His body was weighed down by the heavy metal chains wrapped thoroughly around him. So he couldn't even break his thumbs to slip out. The clown prevented any type of escape he could think of. He took a deep breath and thanked whatever deity, if there was any, that was listening that at least he gets to keep his domino mask on. The clown probably didn’t know it had a tracker in it. So there is a chance he can get found.

As miniscule as it is.

He was broken out of his thoughts by something hard and heavy hitting his head. He felt his head snap to the side and his temple throbbed in pain. Jason tried to keep his breathing steady. Even though he could feel the blood leaking down his face. His world was already spinning.

The laughs of a madman echoed in the empty warehouse. Each one feeling like jackhammers in his head. Green seeped into his vision, whispering thoughts to him.

If he can get out- when he gets out- he can finally murder that clown. He can make him feel the pain he felt. He can get revenge and make that damn creature pay.

He felt like he was suffocating. His mind struggled to stay present. Overlapping words played in his head like a broken record.

“ What hurts more? A? Or B? Forehand? Or backhand?”

He couldn’t tell anymore what was actually happening to him now, and what was a memory.

“Come on little birdie, you oughta have better manners than stealing my name.”

Words and laughter played over each other. His head spun.

Except it got quiet all of a sudden. Not for long - a few seconds at most- before the damn clown was shouting again. “Aw come on! Who turned out the lights? Batsy was it you? I knew you couldn’t resist me~”

Another laugh echoed in the warehouse. Jason blinked, startled by the different cadence. He knew that laugh.

“Awww is it a new little birdie? Did papa bat send out another kiddie to die-” The Jokers words cut off. Jason could vaguely make out a set of glowing blue eyes. They tilted to the side.

“Not that I’m sorry to disappoint. But when I’m done with you, you’ll wish that I was Batman.”

The next thing he knew there was a loud CRACK! Followed by loud wheezing. Jason heard his friend’s soft laughter. “That will keep him quiet for a bit. But juuust to be safe…” There was the familiar sound of cloth rustling, “There we go! One fully gagged and hogtied Joker.”

The soft blue glow from his team mates eyes finally washed over him. “Hey there, Jaybird. Need a hand?”
“Crow, I am not in the mood-”

“Understandable. Do you want to kick the clown fucker?” Cold washed over him, allowing a quiet sigh of relief as the thick chains all clattered to the ground around him. He grinned at his teammate making a ‘duh’ motion.

Crow led him over to where the bitch was hogtied. Jason grinned down at the clown, “My turn asshole.”

He was allowed to get a couple good hard kicks in before Crow tapped his shoulder. “The bat is gonna be here within the next two minutes. We need to get going.” There was the oh so familiar and ‘comforting’ sound of a glass window shatter. “Never mind. We should leave now.” His sleeve was getting tugged at by Crow, a sign of his for asking consent to use one of his powers on another.

He gave a subtle nod. “Sorry, old man. We were just leaving.”

“Hood!”

“Nice to finally meet you, B!” Crow chirped happily beside him, the cold feeling of his powers sliding over Jason’s body once more, removing them from the visible spectrum.

He watched quietly as Batman rushed towards where they had been standing seconds before. He tried to push down the strange feeling churning in his chest. Faintly, he heard a quiet ticking, reminding him of a clock.

Tick…

Tick…

Tick…

He felt his body moving. Crow was pulling him out of the building, he thought. Or was it a pressure wave pushing him through the wall? Wind rushed past him at a high speed. He stood where he was placed for a long time. Stood? Sat? Fell? He wasn’t entirely sure what was happening anymore.

Echos of an explosion rang in his ears. He felt phantom pains race along his body, burning threw his clothing and searing into his flesh. His lungs burned and cried out for air. He felt like he was suffocating.

Was the rumbling of the ground under his feet really happening? Was it memories that he never could fully escape from? Was the ringing real or is it just the memory of being deafened minutes before he died?

What was happening to him now and what was an echo of the past?

Memories kept playing and replaying in his head. Overlapping laughter, deafening booms, the crunching of bones.

Slowly Jason noticed a new sound, something soft and low. He could feel it just as well as he could hear it. He felt a weight on his chest, on his arm and something curled up near his head. Soft, cuddling things. He wasn’t sure when he started to pet one, but he tried to pay attention to the absolute puff ball of a cat that was next to him. Feeling the dense, plush fur under his hands.

“You back with us yet, Jay?”

“Fuck off.”

“ Ouch. ” Was the lightly teasing response. “I know you prefer good ol’ Will and Ms Shelly over me, but I would like to help you clean up the wounds. You got a nasty looking one on your arm.”

“Get it over with asshat. I ain’t movin’.”
“I just wanted to let you know it was happening. You do remember the one time-”

“Where I flipped out and punched you. Yes. I remember. You’ra prick for bringin’ it up again.”

“Just makin’ sure!”

Jason opened his eyes to watch the person he considered a brother move one of his cats to a different spot to get started on cleaning up. Danny’s face was scrunched up in a look of intense concentration.

“So… ya saw Bats super close today. How’d that feel?”

The blue eyed teen looked up with a deadpan expression. “Just like I did when Tucker dragged me to a furry convention that one year.”

He couldn’t hold back a laugh. The cat sitting on his chest made a disgruntled noise, got up and jumped down. He didn’t stop laughing. The mental image of Bruce showing up to a furry convention in a knockoff batman suit was just too funny. Or would it just a bat suit? Does Batman count as Bruce’s fursona-

Shit. Does that make Robin Dick’s fursona???

Does that make Robin Jasons?

He stopped laughing and looked at Danny. “Shit. Dude, is Robin my fursona?”

Danny started snickering. “Nah, it's more so your brothers? But Robin doesn’t give those vibes according to Tuck. Batman’s count because he looks more like a bat. You can’t look at the robin suit without knowing it and go, ‘Yeah that's a robin alright.’ Though… He did say the colors sorta help? But not enough to boost it into that category.”

“Tucker has thought about it way too much.”

“He did a whole slideshow on what heroes count as furries. I'm pretty sure it did all of JL, Teen Titans and Young Justice? He did a handful of villains too. If you're curious, he counted Catwoman as a furry.”

“Thanks, next time I see Selina I will have to tell her that.”

“Tucker already has.” Danny snickered. “Anyways, do you want to get take out tonight? There’s that movie that Sam brought over we could watch.”

“I’m down for some pizza and a Dead Teacher marathon.”

The rest of the night went quietly. At Least it did once he turned off his phone. It had been nearing 100 missed calls and nearly as many texts from his family. After he messaged Barabra, asking her to keep them off his ass for a few days, before calling in the pizza order.

He kept his eyes focused on the cats that were playing as he waited. Listening to the quiet chatter from the people he considered friends. Sam and Tucker playfully bickering over which Dead Teacher movie was the best, a pen quietly scraping against paper as Jazz wrote her essay that was due for english as Danny leaned over her shoulder and made comments on spelling.

He let himself sink into the couch. One of the three cats ran up and immediately jumped in his lap. More paws followed, excited barks.

“Danny, get your fuckin’ DOG-.”

“Cujo don’t bite-”

“YES HE DO.”
