"I bet you this will still be a thing in fifty years," Daisy said, out of nowhere.
Severus just scoffed in reply.
"It's true! It will!" Daisy insisted.
"Will not."
"Will too," replied the eight-year-old teasingly.
"It doesn't even make any sense," Severus complained. "There's no way people will still like something like this in fifty years!"
"TV shows for kids aren't meant to make sense! They're for kids!" argued Daisy.
"And what are you then, huh?" goaded Severus.
"Pfft. If you haven't noticed, I find this show perfectly enjoyable." Daisy replied, completely avoiding the question.
She and Severus were the only ones watching the TV at the moment. Lily was upstairs, reading some book that would probably bore Daisy to death. (The second? Or third? Honestly, she wasn't really sure right now, but she knew she had died way too many times in her previous life. She really hoped it would not become a trend for her.) Petunia was probably trying on the make-up her parents got her for her birthday, even though Daisy kept telling her she didn't need it. And their parents were taking care of the garden as far as she knew.
They probably thought if they left their kids' in front of the TV, they wouldn't need any supervision or cause any trouble. Well, to be fair, they were watching it right now, but who's to say they wouldn't get up to some mischief later?
Anyways, that's why they were watching Scooby-Doo. And arguing about it.
"It's not even realistic!" Severus exclaimed, waving his hands. Aw, he was adorable like this.
"Again, it was not even intended to be realistic! It was intended to hold kids' attention so their parents could take a break," said Daisy. (She wasn't about to tell him that it was her kids' favorite show when they were little. Her kids, one of whom was named after Severus. Awkward.)
"All the characters are overly emotional. Velma is the only tolerable one."
Daisy snorted. "It's teenagers. What did you expect?"
"What did I expect?" parroted Severus. "I did not expect anything because I did not want to watch this."
"Then why are you still watching it?" Daisy asked innocently.
Severus just grumbled something under his breath. Daisy snorted again. Then she added, just to see the reaction: "You could totally be Shaggy."
"What?!" Severus shrieked. "I will not be compared to that coward by my own sister!" he added, dramatically, not even realizing that he called her his sister out loud. For the third time this year. (Yes, Daisy was counting.)
Daisy fell off her seat laughing. Upon seeing a bit of genuine hurt under all his fake annoyance, she calmed down and said: "Don't worry, I don't think you're a coward. In fact," she hesitated, biting her lip, but then continued, "I'm sure you'll grow up to be the bravest man I've ever known."
(The words felt like an echo of something she had already said, once upon a time, but that was neither here nor there.)
Severus froze a little, but then he smiled, hesitantly, unsure of what to do with himself when faced with praise.
"Lils would totally be Daphne, though," continued Daisy, and Severus relaxed again.
He smirked and punched her (softly) in the arm. "Lily? As Daphne? Don't be ridiculous. Lily can do much better than that."
Daisy decided not to mention how Lily said she'd like to be exactly like Daphne when she grows up.
"And who would you even be? Fred?" asked Severus.
"Hm," Daisy pretended to think about it, "I suppose I could lean into the I-always-have-a-plan aesthetic a bit more. And the part with traps shouldn't be too difficult."
Severus raised an eyebrow. (It kind of reminded her of Snape.) "Those traps that normally have no way of succeeding without a series of wildly improbable coincidences?"
It was then that Petunia came out of nowhere and asked: "What is this I'm hearing about traps? I hope you're not planning anything," in her scolding tone. You know, like she would actually try to stop them. Ha! The only reason she was using that tone was because they didn't invite her.
"We're just talking about Fred Jones, from Scooby-Doo," said Daisy.
Petunia sighed, and Daisy could tell it was from disappointment. "That again? Why don't you watch something else?"
"What would you watch then?" Daisy inquired.
"Doctor Who," Petunia replied.
"Wait," said Daisy, "Doctor Who?"
As far as she knew, that TV show shouldn't have appeared until much later. When she first saw an episode, she must have been at least twenty-six, and it was still relatively new back then. Then again, she never became invested in it. Her real life was exciting enough as it was, she did not need to see something like that on TV when she got home. Not to mention, her memories were still mostly unclear, so who really knows? (If only she knew that she was now two years older than Christopher Eccleston, David Tenant wasn't even born yet, and let's not even mention Matt Smith.)
Severus huffed. "Whatever. It's not like that's much better than Scooby-Doo anyways."
Petunia just rolled her eyes at him.
Daisy shrugged. "For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that will also still be a thing in fifty years."
