Chapter Text
“C’mon Harper, just take them,” the man pleaded, waving the tickets in his sibling’s face.
“No, Camden, I don’t want them. Whatever stupid scheme this is to make me in your debt, it’s not going to work.” She turned towards the door, “I don’t know why you’d think I even want to go on an airship with you to begin with? I don’t, by the by. Go on your own or take someone else.”
“That’s not what- Harper, please-” he called out to him but the effort was wasted as the door closed behind her, leaving Cam alone in the room with the lone witness to the whole attempt, Laurel.
They looked up from their comfy spot on the floor, pushing their purple hair out of their face to look at Camden, a glimmer of sympathy in their pale green eyes.
“I’m sorry if he hurt your feelings, I’m sure she didn’t really mean it.” Their gravelly voice sounded genuine but rehearsed, like they’d said this same thing dozens of times before.
A laugh escaped his lips, “It’s fine Laurel, I’m not hurt. He’s just like that, always has been. I know she didn’t mean anything by it. He is
far
too prideful for his own good.”
He closed the distance between himself and the human, Laurel standing up to meet him. Pressing the tickets into their hands, he steered them towards the same door Harper had left from, “Here. You take them. I’m sure she’ll agree if you ask. Go and have some fun, I heard from a friend that it’s quite good, I’m certain you’ll enjoy it. Even Harper should get a kick out of it.”
Laurel flushed a little under their mask, Camden always made them a little nervous. They didn’t see him often so there was never a chance to really get to know him. Anytime they really spent in the same room was occupied by Harper picking a fight with him. “Thank you, you really didn't have to do this. I appreciate it.”
“Don’t worry about it. Take care of yourself, and Harper.” He waved.
“I will, you take care too Camden.” Their eyes indicated that they were smiling at him, before they turned and broke into a light jog to find where his sibling had run off to in the time they had been chatting.
“Come visit again… sometime soon, preferably. I don’t get to see enough of you two.” He said, not that Laurel was close enough to hear. Smiling to himself, Cam closed the door and carried on with his work.
