Chapter Text
[Spring - a time of new beginnings and transformation, symbolic of rebirth and starting fresh.]
The walk home from his part time job was something Jimin was slowly getting used too, it wasn't the highlight of his day but it wasn't the worst part either. In any other circumstance he could have probably seen the beauty in things like the trees new growth after the dreadful cold winter that had come to pass or even the steady thrum of people, alive and active at all hours trying to make ends meet too live a life they want - Jimin wasn't in a much different position himself. But after a long day of dance only to run to the other side of the city to make his shift at work then carry himself home to sleep and do it all again, the city lost its charm.
When he first arrived it felt like an incredible place, things in Seoul were a welcome change of pace from the lonely life he lived back in Busan. It felt like the city never slept, nor the people in it and even though he was more than aware of the larger majority of the population being supernatural something about just how lively it managed to be left him in awe and made him feel safe, safer than the cut throughs and short cuts of back home where trouble was waiting around any corner and safer from the humans who were still traditionalists ready to spew and give abuse.
That was the thing about small towns, the misconceptions and twisted history of the past stuck and carried through to modern day. The idea that vampires would drain villages dry and wolves would decide to go run amuck and destroy a farmers live stock stuck even with laws, rules and regulations to prevent it. Whole races had nearly been wiped out by the humans and only myths were left of what there once had been, so many lost to history and fable.
So coming to the place that had been labelled the centre of supernatural rights, the pinnacle of modernity, had originally had a charm about it. A month of non stop however had dulled it with a blurry filter going idlily from one day to the next.
It wasn't immediately like that. Before the first week of studying had started he had taken his time to look around the city, seek out a job and just enjoy the little thing like the steady strum of people in the streets of the flowing of the water near the Han river at five in the morning, but one week in and his schooling had started full force, immediately intense to ween off those who weren't prepared to put the work in and if there was anything that Jimin wanted in life it was to dance - so he didn't complain. He spoke to his manager who was extremely kind to him and went for the closing shifts or the opening, whatever his schedule allowed, attending theory classes and mathematics which kept his scholarship strong while dancing the rest of the day away until all that was left of him was what the music allowed.
It should've concerned him when his dance instructor pulled him to the side but he was too tired to care, he should've probably heeded their warning from just a few hours earlier that he looked exhausted and to get some rest but he didn't. He went to work to be able to pay for his apartment with student accommodation seemingly impossible with his schedule, he worked his shift until he was told to go home and get some rest from his worried looking boss who didn't seem to want to let him go alone. But he did, because in the end he was alone, no friends before and no time to make any now - much too late to join a group as most had already been formed, he didn't even care about it he didn't have the energy too. He just had to keep going, make it home, get a cold shower to save some money he'd surely lost leaving work early and sleep just to start it all again in the morning.
Monotonous.
That was the way his life was going.
He should have probably seen the person running, been aware enough with his half wolfen instincts that there was a potential threat running into his face but he didn't, he barely felt the collide or even noticed he was falling, he didn't notice the sudden shift in the air or the arms that had caught him and froze his attacker - because that's what it was, a person with a knife who had jumped him for seemingly no reason, maybe a human? maybe a wolf? he knew they hated him just as strongly, more unnatural than the supernatural, a halfling abomination that should've died at birth with his mother - that's what they'd always said. It was so easy to slide back into those thoughts as he fell both metaphorically and physically, he should've seen the warnings when life began to feel a bit too dull.
Instead he saw nothing, blind to himself like always and blind to the world around him. He could only hear a distant echo, a plea, for him to wake up, to stay awake if he could hear him but in the end it all fell to nothingness.
Jimin always loved spring, he loved the meaning behind it and everything it symbolised. He could only hope that when he woke up, if a familiar voice rang, he could do what he intended and begin to live for himself - if there was one thing he took with him from Busan it was those three words. He just hoped that it wasn't too late.
