Chapter 1: One.

Chapter Text

It had been a stressful day. With the Krang almost taking over Earth — well, New York at least — and having to defeat them, let alone only being teenagers, it was truly exhausting for the four turtle brothers, Casey and April. Splinter aswell, but I digress.

Leo was exhausted, was tainted with blood on just about every area of his body, the family hug earned a hard gruff from him, held his breath as he felt tears prick at his eyes, he could feel every one of his bones shift and crack from the pressure.

A tear broke, fell down his face and hit his twin on the forearm, earned their attention, “Raph, could you carry him?” The larger nodded, picked Leo up bridal-style, pulled a choked sob out his throat, even just breathing put him in agonizing pain, the more it dragged on the more he wished he’d been killed by the Krang. Memories hit him, swore he could hear his head crush against the debris he’d been held against, ears started ringing as he broke into more sobs.

Raph inhaled sharply, glanced around at the small group that crowded around him and Leo, eyes landing on Donnie. “This might be a bad idea but it’s the only one I got, Donnie, you fly Leo to the lair and get him fixed up at least a little bit, we’ll get there as soon as possible.” Turned to April, “Contact Sunita, if worst comes to worst we need her brooch to get Leo to a hospital.”

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” a mutter from Leo, didn’t exactly have a choice before he was picked up by Donnie, hooked onto the jetpack and battle shell, his arms slumped over their shoulders as they held his legs, “This might hurt, sorry,” before they kicked off the ground, took into the air and flipped down goggles so it was easier to see where the two were going.

“Donnie,” could barely speak from the pain hazing his mind, fell in and out of consciousness as the wind pushed against him and Donnie, Leo seemed to mumble small incoherent words, didn’t distract their twin as the two made it to their home. Donnie took Leo to his own room, laid the other on the bed and made sure he was properly situated before heading off to grab some pain meds and more bandages to replace the already bloody ones.

Leo sighed, watched his brother leave as he got under the blankets, tried his hardest to relax but couldn’t even breathe properly, breath hitched in his throat and he put a hand to his head, over half his head was covered by bandages and he could only see out of one eye, he was still yet to clean the blood off of him,,Simply laid back down and stared at the ceiling, tried to relax while he had the chance.

It was somewhat difficult to say the least, held onto a spare stuffed toy as he tried to take deep breaths, closed his eyes and let his body relax, sank into the mattress below him as he drifted off into sleep.

He had multiple nightmares, mostly ones about the Krang killing not only him but his brothers aswell, being forced to watch them be ripped out of their shells and broken into nothingness, he was aware that it was all just nightmares, but it hurt to see nonetheless. Leo was scared, he had to admit it. He was scared of losing his family, losing the only ones he could trust and being left alone in the world, he had always been scared that his nightmares would become a reality.

Was broken from his slumber as he felt his face bandages and mask being removed by Donnie, they muttered a small, “Sorry for waking you”, before putting some type of cream onto his wounds and covering them with bandages once more. It seemed he had slept longer than planned as the rest of his family was back home, including Draxum who had presumably come along to make sure everyone was alright.

A small jolt from Donnie as Leo grabbed their wrist, glanced at him only to see tears on his face, muttered a few incoherent syllables before gently lifting Leo up and hugging him, letting him sob into their shoulder.

Donnie was worried for Leo, he had done so much for the family and yet he wouldn’t take anything in return, only when he was just barely alive would he finally accept help and let them take care of him. No matter how much anyone tried they just couldn’t get to him, he knew how much it concerned everyone but he was the one who was supposed to take care of them, didn’t even allow Raph to take a hit before he had at least gotten punched or something of the sort.

“Donnie, I...” Leo cut himself off with a small gasp for air between sobs, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I was supposed to protect all of you and-- I just couldn’t do it, everyone got hurt because of me-”

“Hey, hey, it’s not your fault at all, seriously,” Donnie responded, rubbed their brother’s back and sighed, he felt horrible, Leo shouldn’t have gone through any of what he did. “It’s going to be alright, okay? I know it might not seem like it now, but everything’s going to be alright, really. All you need to do now is rest, you’ve done so much and we’re all so proud of you, but now it’s time for you to take a break, okay?” They let go of the hug, held Leo’s hand in theirs with a soft smile, “I promise everything’s going to be okay.”

Leo took a deep breath, simply nodded to Donnie and forced a smile back, laid back down as they left the room, his makeshift door barely blocking out any conversation the others were having.

“Is Sensei going to be alright?” Casey muttered just outside the room to Donnie as they exited, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief to see them nod. “It’s going to take a while for him to heal, though. Most of his ribs are broken, his shell’s badly damaged, I don’t think he can use his legs, and I’m pretty sure he has a severe concussion.”

Casey bit at his nails, he was utterly terrified for Leo, what if he didn’t make it? Shook his head and huffed, it was going to be fine, it had to be. “Is there anything I can do to help? Get him food, water, new clothes, anything?”
Donnie thought for just a bit, “Asking him might be better,” they decided lightheartedly, patting Casey on the shoulder as they headed off to help April and Draxum tend to Raph, Mikey and Splinter.

Casey pushed the curtain that made Leo’s door aside, tip-toed over just to sit down next to the bed in a chair Donnie had brought in. He let his hands rest in his lap, didn’t want to bother Leo if he was too tired, simply rocked side to side slowly, waited patiently to see if Leo was going to ask for anything, wanted to say in the room for as long as needed to make sure the other was okay.
