Chapter Text
It is cold and dark. And so eerily silent. He isn’t used to the silence, the screaming voices of resentful spirits having been a constant thing for him. But they are gone now, and their departure leaves him on edge. Is this what it was like before everything happened? Is this what it was like to be normal? He can’t remember.
I love you…
The words push themselves to the front of his mind, leaving a bitter taste on his tongue. He doesn’t know where the words come from, or who had spoken them. But they feel important. They carry a deep weight, he can make out sadness, desperation, and warmth woven into them and spoken from someone because they had to have come from someone but he can’t remember who.
Wei Wuxian!
This time the words are harsh, striking him swiftly and mercilessly. There is pain and hatred in them, and something else that he can’t quite identify. Whose name is that, who is the person, and what have they done to be spoken to in such a way?
He can’t remember.
