Toru Hagakure x Male Reader
Abstract
[Y/N] did some basic tricks while waiting outside a mall. [Genre] music blasted from [color] headphones.
His girlfriend Toru Hagakure was enrolled in UA, a super difficult and stressful hero school. So, during a break, he wanted to take her out on a date. Also, [Y/N] wanted to spend time with her, because he hardly ever gets to see Hagakure.
Unlike most, his girlfriend is literally invisible. Many people stare bewildered at the see-through girl wearing a hoodie, shorts, and bright yellow shoes. Her hand waves, signaled by a bracelet moving around as if floating. Hagakure’s voice is like metal wind chimes. “[Y/N]!”
She tackles her boyfriend in a loving hug. Kisses barrage his face. Intertwining her hand with his she said, “I missed you!”
“I did too. I know we call each other often but I always worry.”
Instead of saying the common phrase of “You don’t have to worry about me,” Hagakure perked up at her boyfriend’s words. It’s nice being noticed for a change. Most of her own classmates forget about her, thanks to her quirk.
The whole mall had a dreamy vaporwave aesthetic, really vintage yet modern. An eye-sore but also romantic. Guests at the food court murmured and created a comfy atmosphere.
“How’s UA? I bet you meet many people with interesting quirks. I also heard you guys got attacked by some scary-looking villains at camp.”
Toru hummed. “It was shocking! But that goes with the job. Izuku and the teachers fought hard to save us. The LOV are no ordinary purse-snatchers. But thanks to my invisibility and my friends, we made it out okay. At UA there are plenty of cool quirks. I feel very mild compared to them, but seeing such powers, I also want to try my hardest!”
One thing [Y/N] truly adored Hagakure for is her contagious optimism. It isn’t the fake positivity either, her upbeat mannerisms can pull [Y/N] out from the darkest moods.
She is invisible and many asked how [Y/N] could ever possibly love someone who’s essentially a ghost. To him, Hagakure is the one he’d love forever. She shines so brilliantly and warms his heart.
Food magically floats up and disappears in cartoonish bites. “What happened at your tournament?”
He smiled proudly and exhibited a medal like he was some great adventurer who slayed a terrifying beast. “Got silver!”
“Wow! I knew you’d do it!”
[Y/N] nodded, his mind winding back to the fierce competition in the tournament. “It was hard. Lots of the guys had really great quirks that helped them. I miss you cheering me on at the games but thinking about you really helped.”
He propped his face up with a hand and pointed elbow. “You’re really inspirational, you know? My girlfriend is doing her best to be a hero, facing danger almost every day, and that motivated me to also do my best.”
It’s difficult to tell what Toru is conveying but from her voice [Y/N] can tell she’s smiling. “You’re already wonderful but it does make me super super happy that you’re thinking of me. I think about you too, I guess that’s us trying to be there for each other with,” she tapped her head with both hands. “Brain magic. Ooohohoh.”
[Y/N] laughed.
They strolled through the mall and stopped at any store that looked interesting. [Y/N] carried all the bags, happy to just see his girlfriend again, unworried that some crazy villains spitting about outlandish ideals would attack. Standing outside a shop his mind drifted back to the day he met Hagakure.
He was new to skating and mostly won bronze or nothing. Many told [Y/N] he should apply to UA because of his quirk, which made him able to regenerate bones, blood, and transform them at will. But he knew it wasn’t the path for him. Skating, the truest feeling of freedom when you’re in the air was his passion. Many of the onlookers and sponsors wanted the other contestants. His confidence wavered a moment, feeling like a stone sinking into the endless depths of the ocean, until he saw Hagakure.
She was jumping up and down cheering until the game ended. People would pass her by and hardly spare a glance but [Y/N]? He introduced himself and she instantly declared that she was a fan of his work.
Jaw agape, [Y/N] felt like he was flying. Nobody ever took his skating seriously and having support for a long-gone sport made his day. His loss didn’t even matter. He had felt invisible for so long, until Hagakure.
[Y/N] recalled all the handmade gifts she had crafted for him. The one he always kept with him was a necklace made of rainbow-like glass. There are many flaws but it was painstakingly beautiful because of it. He rubs a thumb over the necklace as warm memories crash like refreshing beach waves.
Leaving the mall they go to Hagakure’s house. She eyed the skateboard full of old stickers and faded paintings.
He lowers his cup of [drink]. “What’s wrong?”
She holds up a small metal case. “I want you to paint my face.”
“Really?” Much like a blind person, [Y/N] has only been able to imagine Hagakure’s facial features by touch, and even then he couldn’t get a clear visualization. You’d think all those kisses would’ve been helpful.
“Yeah, and I can paint yours. I think it’ll be fun. It isn’t silly is it?”
[Y/N] shook his head and smiled. “No, it’s a great idea!”
He pouted thoughtfully as he focused. Hagakure stifled laughter as the brush tickled her face. Each brushstroke brought bright colors to life. A reimagined 90’s aesthetic, with smiley faces, flowers, glitter, and busy shapes.
[Y/N] wondered what his girlfriend’s eyes looked like. It was one of the things he sadly believed he’d never see. Though he is talented in figuring out Hagakure’s emotions by her voice, he’d love to study how her eyes sparkle like jewels.
Humming, she painted. Her monsters and skulls are lopsided but ferocious. The art had a very Picasso standpoint.
They stare at their reflections in a mirror. [Y/N] turned his head side to side and smiled. “Not bad!”
Hagakure’s cheeks puffed and her brows furrowed. “It’s missing something…”
“Like…hair dye?”
“Yes, that’s perfect!”
After the hair dye was applied they run a hand through their hair to see the full luminosity of the colors. Its temporary dye and it sure made them look wild. Hagakure turned to [Y/N] and smiled. “We look like abstract paintings, I love it!”
“Abstract huh?”
“Uh-huh,” she pulled her boyfriend close and leaned in. “The painter makes something out of all these colors and shapes, and brings it all together, and the people each see their own meaning to it.”
The space between them is nearly closed, their noses hovering apart from each other. Their hearts are racing, thundering deafeningly, and disbanding the unforeseen quiet. Hagakure kissed her boyfriend and the two became moving, living, breathing art. Two styles that otherwise would be uncomplimentary have become imaginative abstract art.
