Allergic Reaction

Summary:

Tamaki had been looking forward to movie night all week!

Too bad he's allergic to pork and someone decided it would be a great time to see his quirk mess up.

Day 22 Whumptober: Poisoned food.

Notes:

I don't know how I've kept this challenge up this long to be honest.

Work Text:

Tamaki had been looking forward to today all week. While most of the time he absolutely hated the weekend, for obvious reasons such as people existing, he was happy for the plans that Nejire and Mirio had made. He cleaned his dorm room and made sure that all of his best blankets were ready for their movie night. Mirio had been the one to come up with the idea and promised that they would rent Tamaki’s favorite movie. While Tamaki did love The Wonderful Adventures of Winnie the Pooh , he was still embarrassed that his best friend had leaked the information to Nejire the other day. But it would be worth it to show her the movie that she claimed she had never seen before.

I wonder if Mirio is going to bring popcorn or if I should go out and get some? Tamaki knew that movie nights had to have popcorn even if he didn’t want to go to their communal kitchen. He forced himself to anyway and began microwaving popcorn only to have an arm warp harshly around his shoulders.

“Amajiki! What’s up dude? It’s not often we see you down here” his classmate exclaimed and his whole body tensed. Why did he put his arm around me? I should answer him right? He should let go. What’s his name again? I should know his name by now. Unless, is this the guy that just transferred in? Mirio told me his name ten times last week. Why can’t I remember it? “Uh, Amajiki?” shoot I took too long. Tamaki gave a shaky nod and tried to move back enough to hint that he wanted to step away. The stranger didn’t really get the hint.

“I-I’m Gonna w-watch a movie” He answered wishing desperately that he had grabbed a hoodie instead of a sweatshirt.

“Oh really? What movie? If you’re on your own we could totally watch it on the big screen” the teen offered getting off of Tamaki to gesture at the large tv in their communal living space. Oh kami that sounds like H*ll. Tamaki had never watched a movie in the main living space because anyone can use it and walk in and talk to him. Wait does he actually expect me to tell him what movie? I can’t do that. It’s a kids movie right? Oh kami Where’s Mirio when I- The microwaved beeped and Tamaki wasted no time quickly grabbing it and turning to the fridge. He had put a dish of ramen in earlier since it was one of Nejire’s favorites. He noticed there were more classmates now. At least five had gathered around and he was happy to duck behind the fridge door to grab the dish and avoid their gaze.

“I-I have p-plans actually” Tamaki answered happy to be able to leave the kitchen as fast as possible with the ramen secured. Mirio was going to order more snacks too, so he was sure he wouldn't mind grabbing them all paper bowls and silverware. He ran up to his dorm and made sure to have the movie prepared.

Before he knew it Nejire and Mirio were bursting into the room.

“Tamaki! Hi!” Nejire smiled setting down a bunch of her own pillows to help with the blanket mess Tamaki had arranged at the foot of his bed so they could comfortably watch his TV.

“Hi Tamaki!” Mirio greeted as well setting down five different brands of chips on the low table Tamaki had arranged. It was easy to spot some of their childhood favorites. Staples to every sleepover they had had since they were children.

“Hi” Tamaki smiled happy to sit in the middle as they got comfortable. He wasn’t surprised when Nejire gasped in delight at the sight of the food.

“Tamaki!!! You got my favorite” She exclaimed quickly grabbing the paper bowls and dishing up some for the three of them. I’m so glad she likes it. I was worried her favorite may have changed…since yesterday. “I hope this movie is as good as Mirio says. I’ve been looking forward to it.”

“Oh you’re gonna love it Nejire! Tamaki has ever since we were young and it’s really cool. Plus now you’ll understand anytime we quote it” Mirio assured and Tamaki felt his smile drop. Maybe he didn’t want Nejire to understand all the references he had secretly been making to the children’s movie.

“Think it over, think it under” Tamaki had muttered to himself just last week. “I wasn’t going to eat it, I was just going to taste it” he had promised the day before. With anxiety he realized he may have been using his comfort character a bit too much. “Or maybe not” Tamaki hoped out loud and Nejire laughed.

“I’m sure it will be great!” She agreed, passing him a bowl of the ramen. He pressed play on the remote and leaned against the pillows. This couldn’t be more perfect. He hadn’t been able to relax with his friends in a long time. He happily took a bite of noodles surprised when the meat tasted slightly off.

“Once upon a time, a very long time ago now, about last Friday, Winnie-the-Pooh lived in a forest all by himself under the name of Sanders.” The narrator began and Tamaki couldn’t help but be distracted as he swallowed. That tastes different.  He glanced down to inspect what he remembered being chicken only to find that the meat looked different from before. Did I grab someone else’s food? He leaned forward, disrupting the blanket flood they had arranged, to make sure it was his tupperware. That’s mine. But I’m certain that this isn’t chicken.

“Something wrong Tama?” Nejire questioned quietly, still focused on the movie.

“Does the meat taste odd to you?” he asked and she shook her head.

“Nope! Tastes like normal pork to me.”

Pork?

Did she just say Pork? As in a pig? As in the one food that Tamaki is allergic to?

“What?” Mirio questioned sounding extremely concerned taking a bite for himself. Tamaki watched him intently feeling anxiety brew in his stomach. He couldn’t tell if the sweat was a reaction or just panic but then Mirio looked at him with wide eyes. “It is. Where’s your epi buddy?” the blonde asked trying to force a smile and Tamaki felt his lungs begin to constrict with his anxiety.

“Epi? Like an epi-pen?” Nejire questioned confused when Mirio quickly paused the movie and threw the blankets off. Not caring that the chips flew all over Tamaki’s floor. Oh Kami. Few people knew anything about Tamaki’s allergy. It didn’t exactly come up often since there weren't any tactical advantages to being a pig. Considering his quirk, it was a big security risk for anyone to know. That’s why Eraserhead had only allowed his future homeroom teachers and internship associates to know. Well and Mirio of course, but that's because he had been allergic for as long as he had known the blonde. “What is going on?” Nejire asked concerned when Tamaki continued to have unsteady breaths.

Stay calm. Deep breaths. “Epi, Tamak! Where is it?” Mirio called from where he was ransacking his bathroom. Epi-pen. Where is it? I don’t remember. I haven’t had to use it in so long. There’s one in my backpack but that’s in my locker. I have one in my mission suit. Do I even keep one in the dorms?

“Don’t know” he gasped clutching at his chest and feeling tears well up. This is the dumbest way to die. Death by pig? Mirio will never live down being friends with me.

“Ok, ok. Nejire stay with him. I have one in my room” Mirio ordered running out and down the hall. Thankfully they were on the same floor but that didn’t make it instantaneous.

“You have a food allergy? Is it to the pig?” Nejire questioned rubbing his back and gently pushing his knees down to try and help him breathe better. He forced a nod and tried not to cry. “Well, sh*t. It’s ok. I’m sure Mirio knows right where your emergency pen is.” she assured gently and he ignored how much his skin felt like it was burning. I need to go to the hospital after. They’re gonna need to check that everything is ok. I feel like puking. I should probably wait till my airways feel clearer.

Mirio burst back in looking like the sun as always and was quick to straighten his leg. “This is gonna hurt for just a second. Don’t look” he commanded and Tamaki nodded staring at the wall as Mirio plunged the needle into his thigh. This part had always scared him when he was little, but now he felt the relief of being able to breathe worth every second of the needle being injected. He forced deeper breaths, following Nejire’s examples, and let a few loose tears slip down.

“Yeah, we need Medical. We can move him” he heard Mirio say quietly, clearly on the phone now, and he let a few more tears out when he realized their movie night was ruined. He was freezing and shaky but that just made him want to stay in bed even more. “Ok, Will do Aizawa-Sensei. On the way now.” they’re never going to want to come back over for the movie now. My food was poisonous. Why would they ever want to have dinner again?

“Don’t cry Tamaki, unless that’s more of a shock thing. In that case, cry as much as you need to. That was pretty scary” Nejire instructed looking more than a bit frightened herself. Great. I’ve given her trauma. She stood and offered him a hand up. He took it and immediately regretted it. He swayed but Mirio looped his arm around his neck.

“Grab his hoodie, won’t you Nejire?” Mirio requested and Tamaki closed his eyes to stop the world from being so shaky. He let his friends maneuver him into his largest hoodie and was more than grateful when Miro pulled his hood up for him, completely covering his face, as they made their way downstairs to head to the medbay.

“It all comes, I suppose” Tamaki muttered under his breath when they managed to get outside the dorm building in one piece. Only I could mess something up so badly. Mirio laughed brightly and Tamaki couldn’t help but have a small smile.

“What’s so funny?” Nejire asked putting on a smile as well.

“See? She would get it if we watched the movie. Once we get you checked out we’ll have to keep going” Mirio answered more to Tamaki than the girl of their group. Oh, he does want to watch then.

“Ugh! Is that a reference too? Darn it.” Nejire pouted letting Tamaki go to run in front of them and pace. “Hurry up guys! I don’t want to be out of the loop.” oh. So does she. Maybe I didn’t mess it all up.

Tamaki smiled at his odd friend group and resigned himself to a late-night ER trip and an even later extended movie night. He fell asleep before Pooh was even able to meet Owl. Well. There’s always next time, I suppose.

“So” Aizawa started staring at class 3A with more fire than he had felt in a week. “You poisoned your classmate's food because you thought it would be funny?” he clarified and the redhead third year looked like he was about to die in fear. Good. It wasn’t often that his old students gave him a call. It was even rarer for Mirio to have anything to complain about.

“We didn’t know it would poison him!”

“Yeah! It’s not our fault he’s so shy that he didn't tell us he had an allergy”

“We just thought that it would be funny if he got a pig nose or something”

He held his hand up at the disgusting excuses. “Three miles. Around the dorm” he ordered pointing to the door. The students in nothing more than pajamas looked horrified.

“Right now?” one girl dared to ask. He understood why. It was below fifty outside and she was wearing pajama shorts and a crop top. Not exactly battle ready.

“Three” Aizawa started and some of them looked confused.

Some were smart enough to run.

“Two” he continued and he could only smirk when the remaining students evacuated the living area. He took a long sip of his coffee and then began to head up the stairs. He should probably check on Tamaki before expelling the main culprit. He could get to that in the morning.
