Chapter Text
Everyone knows that when your soulmate touches your skin, an imprint will be left behind on the exact spot they touch. It could be flowers, symbols, or bursts of color.
And dear God, Kiyoomi hates it so much.
He does not hate the concept of soulmates, no. He is indifferent to that. But he does hate that people have to touch each other to find out if they are soulmates. Why can’t they just have eye contact and know? Imagine all the germs that would be transmitted from skin-to-skin contact. God knows what the people around him have touched, be it willingly or unconsciously. He really does not want to take that chance.
Honestly, Kiyoomi would not hate it that much if people actually asked and sanitized their hands before touching him, but he found that some people do not really respect his personal boundaries.
One example would be the girls at his school. Most of them respected that he values his space and hygiene and would back down when he refuses they touch him. But there are always those girls who try to forcefully touch him to find out if he was their soulmate. And each time, his relief that they were not his soulmate was almost enough to drown out the disgust he feels creeping up his skin. The audacity of these people, seriously.
Motoya had laughed each time he darted away from a girl that had reached forward towards him, telling him that he will never find his soulmate if he keeps reacting like that.
“I don’t want to be soulmates with someone who does not respect my boundaries either,” Kiyoomi always snapped back to his cousin. He was confident enough that whoever he will be with, soulmate or not, will be someone who won’t make him feel disgusted with them.
Motoya would roll his eyes at his cousin, but he agrees. He doesn’t think fate is cruel enough to give Kiyoomi a partner that doesn’t understand his boundaries.
. . . . . . . .
Kiyoomi is annoyed and Motoya won’t stop laughing .
What happened was this year, they were both chosen to participate again in the All-Japan Youth Camp, and they met many new and returning participants. A newcomer had caught Kiyoomi’s attention, the first-year setter from Karasuno, Kageyama Tobio. Karasuno, the team that had managed to defeat Wakatoshi and his team in the Miyagi prefectural tournament.
He had approached the younger boy wanting to ask if Wakatoshi was sick or not in the best condition, and he was left rather surprised when the boy said the wing spiker seemed fine and healthy to him.
Then the first-year setter stared at him and told him in the flattest way possible, that Kiyoomi seemed normal to him. Normal .
Kiyoomi could see his cousin was struggling to maintain his composure, lips wobbling as an attempt to hold in his laughter. His expression soured behind his mask and he glared down at the blank blue eyes staring back at him, huffing as he turned away from the table to stalk away somewhere.
Motoya kept teasing him after that, and it did not help with his mood at all. Kiyoomi is not normal at volleyball!
But even though their first meeting was anything but pleasant, he couldn’t help but observe the blue-eyed raven. He was curious and wanted to know more about the main setter of the team that defeated Shiratorizawa.
The first thing he notices is that Kageyama is beautiful. He is tall with dark hair that looks super soft and silky, and it fluttered every time he moves. He looks absolutely ethereal. It made him want to touch those raven strands, and he was startled because... Did he just WANT to touch someone?
[Motoya must never know.]
[Motoya found out. Not 5 minutes later.]
The second was that... he realizes. He realizes why and how Shiratorizawa did not advance to Nationals this year.
He watches as the younger setter executes toss after toss with such a high level of accuracy for the spikers on his team, looking almost effortless as he does so. He sees how those wide blue eyes had sharpened in the heat of the match, analyzing the flow of the game and the movement of the other players. He sees how he moves around the court fluidly and almost instinctively toward the ball as if he is dancing and not playing volleyball.
Kiyoomi has yet to see the Shiratorizawa-Karasuno match, but he sees that Kageyama Tobio is a damn good volleyball player, and he sees why Shiratorizawa lost. Kageyama may have been just a part of the whole force, but he is part of it nonetheless. One of the factors that brought Karasuno to victory.
He must watch that match soon.
