Okay, let me explain what is probably going to happen now that Crown Prince Erik is dead:
First off, the obvious. Funeral, and a period of mourning. Probably not so different from what you’ve seen with any other royal passing in most other constitutional monarchies.
Second, the long term repercussions. Because Erik was the Crown Prince, that title now goes to second in the line of succession which is… Prince Wilhelm. Aka the one who was in the news recently for getting into a fight and moving to a boarding school where Erik used to go.
Officially, now that Erik has passed, Wilhelm has already assumed the title. Practically, he will probably have to go through some kind of induction ceremony in the next few months to confirm that he has taken on that position. It’s also very possible that they’ll wait until he’s 18 to do anything too official. Erik didn’t make any official public speeches until he was of age, and given that Wilhelm has been in.. a few controversies, I think it’s very likely that they’ll continue that pattern and put it off for as long as possible.
That said, it’s likely that Wilhelm - as the new successor - will have some kind of official role at the funeral. Think: leading a procession, some kind of reading, etc.
So, tldr; there probably won’t be major visible changes immediately. But, long term we’ve got a new royal successor, and there’ll probably be some big stuff coming in the next few years as Crown Prince Wilhelm moves into that position in a more official capacity

[Masterthread] Crown Prince Erik’s funeral
General:
Crown Prince Erik died Thursday 19 November 2020 in a car crash somewhere between Linköping and Jönköping. Details about the crash are still emerging, but are likely to be mostly restricted knowledge that only the Royal Court will fully know the details off. A separate thread here outlines all of the details surrounding the details of what happened.
In light of Crown Prince Erik’s death, Prince Wilhelm - now Crown Prince Wilhelm - will be assuming his title. It is possible, but unconfirmed, that there will be a formal induction ceremony for him.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 22 November 2020, and will be live on all major TV stations, and some online streaming sites.

So, what has our wonderful crown prince gotten himself into this time?
Video was apparently released from a confirmed source at Hillerska - some student probably took it, I guess. Rumours are that it’s the crown prince and this other boy who also goes to the school. Someone on Twitter thinks they’ve identified the other boy as Simon Eriksson, who is confirmed to also attend Hillerska and… does kinda match the boy in the video, I suppose.

Anyone else wondering what the actual plan is with the royal family here? Erik didn’t give any official addresses until he was eighteen - actually, I don’t think he gave any until he graduated school, by which time he was closer to nineteen.

Tbh I think you’ve already given the reason. Major changes in the succession line - or really, only one, but we’ve now got a new crown prince. They probably want to introduce him in an official capacity, bc Wilhelm has never been the “token” successor, like Erik was when he was the same age.
Also, let’s not forget, doesn’t the second in line of succession go to the same school? I bet you that he’ll have some kind of official role - again, with the whole official rejigging of the succession line and introduction of people in a more official capacity

Alright, so last year’s released with no surprises. 90% of it focused on Erik - which, understandable, but pretty much to be expected.

They never really focused on them before because I think everyone thought there’d never be a problem with passing the line down to Erik, but now that Wilhelm’s next in line…. Holy shit okay. Link for everyone who hasn’t seen it but the Crown Prince of Sweden (aka Prince Wilhelm - his name has been floating around online quite a bit the past year, so he might be familiar) just came out. Let me just summarise the chaos that is social media in Sweden rn.
First off, context: This time last year, Wilhelm was.. Literally just more or less as inconspicuous as you can get as a royal. The “spare” heir to the throne, kinda known for hanging around school parties in Stockholm, etc… Last july, he got into a punch up, ended up being sent to boarding school. Three months after that, his brother (crown prince Erik) died in a car crash. It’s suspected that Wilhelm never actually got to say goodbye, and he immediately after - by succession laws - also made the new crown prince and inheritor to the throne. One month later again, a pretty… intimate video surfaces and people claim it’s wilhelm, which he denies a few days later. Suffice to say, he’s had a bad time with the media and a pretty hellish past few months.
Anyway. Yesterday at a school event - bare in mind, a school event where he is making his first official address as the crown prince, and that is being filmed for The Year with the Royal Family (video released in sweden where they detail the life of the royal family over the year for release in december every year) - he looks like is going to projectile vomit. (Another side note, Wilhelm has been.. Documented many times to have a pretty severe hatred of public speaking - which, interpret that how you will bc it’s not like it’s really any of our business or something he’s likely to discuss anytime soon). ANYWAY. After almost lets his second cousin once removed (second in line to the throne) do his speech for him, he then pushes past him and goes up anyway to speech. He starts, gets half way through, and stops.
And yeah. Watch the video. He looks his mother - THE QUEEN OF SWEDEN - dead in the eye and starts shitting all over institutionalised tradition that is so common in the royal family. He admits it was him in the video, talks about the issues with blindly following tradition, and does all of this. Literally. Staring at the Queen. Like it was not subtle. I beg of you to watch the video.
(Also note - wilhelm did this speech at a recorded event, like I mentioned. He knew this was going to make the news, and probably also knew that PR people would try to cover it up. Most copies of the video are recorded on cell phones, so even though it might look like it wasn’t meant to be filmed, it definitely was).
So what does this say? Probably that the royal family - or someone somewhere in that system, but definitely requiring sign-off of the queen if we’re honest - almost certainly forced Wilhelm to deny that photo in the first place. Which definitely raises questions about homophobia - but also on a larger scale, definitely highlights with even more emphasis that there’s probably a lot of shit, some of which we don’t even suspect and has never garnered public attention, that is being hidden. And that looks reallyyyy bad, so there may be change coming up in the monarchy in sweden! And if we get wille as king (different matter altogether - but his abdication was rumoured for ages after he became crown prince), I think it’s even more certain that we’ll get that.
AKA - we have our first openly queer (future) king. He hasn’t actually stated his sexuality btw - but he’s obviously not straight… So this is going to mean all kinds of interesting things coming out in the next few days/weeks/months/years, bc the royal court is in absolute meltdown right now trying to damage control. At the event itself, one of the court advisors was trying to shut down some of the film crews, but students just started filming instead lol. But sets up a bad look for them.
Anyway down with the monarchy and all - but, if it has to exist, at least it looks like we’re getting a queer king next!

Hey whoever posted these tags, let’s not do that. I was just trying to give a summary of the situation which, yes, involved discussing some sensitive matters, but let’s not take that and run. They’re still sixteen, and they still have a right to privacy as much as anyone else.
Wilhelm being queer is big - yes. It means that there’s likely to be change for the better, to at least some degree. That’s a cause for celebration. But we’re not doing that at the expense of kids, okay? And also please remember it's still the monarchy, and regardless of how you want to spin it, that means it is a broken system that honestly should have been left in the past
