Originally, I planned for everyone to have showtime with Yu but as I wrote the arc, it became clear that it wouldn’t work due to time, my annoyance with Royal as a whole, and the lack of relationship between the Royal crew and Yu.
I did write notes!
All the showtimes are casino/gambling themes to match with Yu’s whole Gambler persona.
Yu/Makoto: Baccarat (which is a Japanese card game. It is similar to Blackjack in a way since you are trying to get nine (instead of 21). The bets are placed on the player, tie, or the house.
Yu/Ryuji: Pachinko (It's like a cross between a pinball, arcade game, and slot machine) In my head, they play the game while the shadows are in the machine and balls land on them.
Yu/Ann: Slots. Like Ryuji and Yu’s showtime, they are playing slots and their winnings keep falling on the shadows’ heads.
Yu/Yusuke: Darts While it isn’t truly a gambling type of game, it pops up on things that Japanese like to gamble on. So, I went with it. More likely Yusuke doing crazy poses while trying to hit shadows with darts.
Yu/Morgana: Pool. The entire process of this showtime was Morgana running around on pool balls hitting shadows.
Yu/Haru: Online gambling games. The vague idea of Yu and Haru playing some online gambling game and Haru pounding on Yu’s back in excitement at their winning. Vague but hilarious images just the same.
Yu/Ren: Dragon Tiger. From my research, it is similar to baccarat but it gives me War (American card game) vibes when I watch videos. It is a game where you wager on the hand to win between the tiger hand and the dragon hand. Any hand that gets the higher card wins. If your guess is correct, you win the game. The bettors are given back half of the money they wagered if the tiger and dragon hands get cards of the same value.
Yu/Goro: Poker. Very violence…they are playing a card game. Akechi lost his game to Yu and was nearly going to start shooting Yu. Yu drew his gun and they were able to have a shootout. Of course, the shadows try to take advantage of that by sneaking up on them. Yu gave Akechi a slight smile and Akechi gave a nod then they turned around and started shooting the shadows. Once they are done, they sit down and play again.
This showtime was heavily tied to an idea that I had about Yu/Akechi facing the doctor alone. While I never developed the idea past the planning stage, I got the impression that it would have ended bloody for the Doctor because everyone said Ren and Akechi are a bloody duo due their showtime. I believe that Akechi and Yu might say hold our coats and we show you how it is done.
Yu/Sumire: Dancing. Because I would totally do a reference to those dancing games. XD
