Chapter Text
If you were to ask Enid Sinclair about her roommate, she would most likely let out a long, clearly dramatized sigh and drape herself over the table to share her many sorrows as the Addams’ girl’s room companion. Their forced cohabitation hadn’t posed a challenge to Enid until the day she actually got to meet the future bane of her existence, who shut down every single attempt at camaraderie with a glare.
‘It’s fine, she’s just weary of a new environment, she’ll warm up to me sooner or later,' she thought, trying her best to keep up her optimistic outlook on the sudden living arrangements. How bad could it really be?
She didn’t stop offering a cheery smile and an attempt at small talk, being ignored on the best of days and demeaned on a mild one. Wednesday began unknowingly chipping away at her happy facade, uncovering more of the concealed snark that crawled under the colorful, glittery surface. Nobody has ever grated on Enid’s nerves as much as the dark haired girl, nobody even came close to.
Many things changed after their exchange on the balcony. They both started inching closer to the line separating acquaintanceship and friendship. Wednesday no longer glared at her as soon as she opened her mouth, they got to learn more things about each other, finally finding some common ground to explore without being shut out immediately by the other.
Everything came crashing down once Tyler came into the picture. Her time with Wednesday, though already limited because of their slightly different schedules, was cut in half when the girl with braids became fascinated with the onslaught of murders at Nevermore. It seemed fitting, considering her affinity to the macabre and occult, but she wished she had come to her instead of the curly haired boy for help. She really thought they were getting closer.
She wasn’t above denying her jealousy, especially when Yoko insisted on teasing her with an insufferable fanged grin around the straw of her O- blood bag, earning her a forceful shove and an angry whine from the cotton haired girl. She just didn’t want to see Wednesday get hurt! What good could a stupid boy, a normie at that, even be to the investigation?
Tyler didn’t have the connections she did within the student body, the dumb human hadn’t even stepped foot in the school grounds for all she knew. She may not be able to transform quite yet, but her senses were sharp and her claws had proved deadly enough to be a valuable asset; the boy seemed tall, but awfully lanky and clumsy, there was no way he could handle his own if it really came down to it, much less keep Willa safe. She could have him incapacitated on the floor in a matter of seconds with an arm tied behind her back.
Why did Wednesday want him around then?
She let out a disgruntled growl, setting aside her laptop and stretching both of her legs across the soft, fluffy duvet that covered her bed. Not even TWICE’s music videos could distract the unpleasant train of thought her mind followed when she pondered about her roommates' almost daily escapades with the sheriff’s son.
A chill crawled up her spine and her ears twitched slightly, anticipating the turn of the doorknob before it actually happened and Wednesday came in, closing the door behind her and walking up to her desk without even sparing her a second glance. That itself wasn’t unusual, it actually happened almost every night; what caught her attention was the way the other girl smelled.
She had memorized Wednesday’s fragrance by heart, engraving it into her brain and recognizing it without even thinking about it, simply knowing it deep in her bones. It had often helped her sleep when she was feeling restless, easing her nerves right before important tests and becoming a familiar safe haven for the werewolf. Only she didn’t smell like home.
She smelled like Tyler.
She smelled like Tyler.
She immediately gripped her coverlet in a white knuckled grip, hearing the faint rip of the fabric thanks to her multicolored claws, and a low growl started rumbling deep within her chest. White, hot anger ignited every fiber of her body, tensing her muscles so hard she actually started to tremble.
The sudden outburst didn’t go unnoticed by the dark haired girl, who turned to study her with a curious look but didn’t say a word. Instead, she started meticulously undoing her now-loose braids and marched to the bathroom, a change of clothes tucked safely under her arm.
She didn’t realize she was holding her breath until she released a shaky exhale through her nose and tried to release her angry grip on her bedding.
Shame burned hot in her cheeks, making its way down her neck and pooling uncomfortably in her belly. She was supposed to have control over her emotions, not lash out when she caught the faintest whiff of that normie’s scent clinging to Wednesday’s clothing. It made sense for her to have residue odor after literally spending the afternoon around the boy, but that didn’t mean she had to like it.
She had been slowly coming to terms with her feelings for her roommate, realizing her innocent infatuation had been slowly crossing the threshold of possessiveness over her mate, which Wednesday most definitely wasn’t.
Not yet, anyway.
She casted a brief glance at the door leading to their shared bathroom, stewing in her thoughts for a few more minutes while the shower ran and her uneasiness grew.
Was there something going on between the two? They’ve been hanging out an awful lot outside of school grounds lately. Would Wednesday even consider the curly haired boy as a possible mate? The thought immediately made her snarl and clench her jaw, wanting to dig her teeth into his flesh and tear him apart until he laid limp so she could present his corpse to Wednesday as a courting gift with the normie’s blood still smeared all over her maw. That simply wouldn’t do.
Before she realized, her legs carried her across the room in quick, determined strides until she stood by her roommate’s wardrobe and she reached inside, having half a mind to actually select a shirt she wore fairly often to take back to her own side of the room.
She sat at the edge of her own bed, holding the shirt in her hands before holding it close to her chest and rubbing the collar against her cheek. Though hesitant at first, the other girl’s scent that lingered in the cloth proved to be effective at egging her on. Just this once, she told herself as she continued to spread her own scent across the soft material, she would let her instincts overpower her logical thinking skills and sense of self preservation just this once.
She didn’t seem to notice when the stream of water from the shower stopped, too engrossed in her task to pay any mind to her surroundings. However, the telltale creak of the bathroom door opening startled her out of her reverie and she stumbled to hide the incriminating item under her torn covers, turning her back to the figure standing under the doorframe and making herself appear busy.
And just like that, the whole thing was apparently forgotten and, for once, she was glad to shove the memory to the very back of her head. After all, it was simply a one time thing.
Except it wasn’t.
She kept using the time her roommate was away to slowly scent the rest of her wardrobe, noting with a tiny smile how all of it consisted of mostly black colors with just a little bit of white and gray thrown in occasionally. She had even been so bold as to steal some of the shirts to wear under her picturesque cardigans and fuzzy sweaters only to return them later to avoid being caught.
She was sure Wednesday had noticed something was up, but made her best effort to never mention it in hopes of neither of them bringing it up.
She had been so careful to leave everything exactly as she found it, even going as far as to pull up random movies in her laptop and fast forward to make it seem like she had been busy watching them for a while. At first she thought it might be a little overkill, but she figured it wouldn’t hurt to be extra sure Wednesday didn’t get too suspicious, or at least not enough to give it more thought and end up investigating as she tended to do.
Little did she know, her worries were entirely misplaced. To be completely fair, she never even considered the possibility that one day she would be caught in the act.
“What are you doing?” Asked the ravenette, startling Enid so badly she actually jumped away from the hoodie she was currently rubbing against the scent glands on her neck and turned to look at her so fast she most definitely had gotten whiplash.
“Nothing.” She forced out a too quick reply, visibly wincing at her own outburst. The shorter of the two let out a quiet hum, directing her gaze at the item of clothing so carelessly discarded on the floor.
“You’re a terrible liar.”
Enid tripped over her own words, refusing to look Wednesday in the eye while offering a pathetic attempt at an excuse, before sighing in defeat and clasping her hands in front of her.
“I don’t like it when you smell like him.” She finally admitted, head hung low and metaphorical tail tucked between her legs. She felt like a kid being forced to admit their mischief, except hers included crossing obvious boundaries and superimposing her base instincts just because she disliked something.
“I see.” The ravenette responded, her tone hard to pin. “So you were spreading your scent instead.”
She could do nothing more than nod meekly, still avoiding eye contact at all costs.
“I suppose werewolves are territorial creatures.” Wednesday mused, returning to fix her unblinking stare at the blonde.
She was expecting the worst at this point. Perhaps the colorful death threats the younger Addams threw her way had reached a culminating point and she was finally dead set on making good on her word. Would she gouge her eyes out with a teaspoon or skin her alive? Maybe she would grab her precious lightstick and shove it down her throat after beating her to the brink of death with it.
While the werewolf was struggling to come to terms with her untimely demise at the hands of her roommate, the girl had closed the distance between them to stand face to face with the other.
Nothing could have prepared her for the sight of Wednesday Addams bowing her head while standing as close to her as possible.
“Go ahead then, scent me.”
She opened her mouth to reply, but no sound came out and she was left looking like a fish out of the water.
Was she dreaming? This must be a dream, there is no way this was actually happening.
They both stood in silence before an exasperated huff was heard and the girl shuffled even closer to her, pressing up against her front and pushing with her own head to nudge her chin. That simple gesture sprung her into action, reigniting the overwhelming urge to chase away Tyler’s scent and replace it with her own, and so she did.
She embraced Wednesday and squirmed slightly against her, rubbing her nose along her cheek and up her temple to lightly sniff at her hair before continuing with the task at hand.
Her senses were on overdrive to the point where even her clothes rubbing against her skin felt like electricity and she couldn’t tell their heartbeats apart, both racing inside their chests as if begging to be let out. If not for her alertness, she would have missed the way Wednesday’s arms raised on their own to return the embrace and her careful nudges were met in tandem, having her push back slightly with no intention of forcing them apart.
Enid doesn’t care to know how much time went by since she left the first trace of her aroma on Wednesday’s skin, all that mattered at that very moment is that the girl of her dreams had not only agreed, but actually asked to partake in such a personal exchange with her. She had put her reluctance for physical touch aside to ease Enid’s worries, although whether or not she was aware of her affections remained a mystery to the taller of the two.
She held Wednesday even closer to her, stilling her actions to simply bask in the proximity and quietly enjoy the way their scents mixed together, definitely exiling Tyler’s.
It was then that she felt her begin to pull away, just a little bit, and immediately obliged only to be met with her freckled face inches away from her own, searching for something. She held her breath once more, fearing that even the tiniest movement would shatter the quiet bubble they had built around themselves. She could feel herself drowning, not even trying to escape from the iron grip Wednesday’s dark eyes held her in, happy to let herself sink in the tar-like pools that seemed to go on forever.
A soft hand came up to cup her face and caress her cheek with obvious adoration, something she didn’t even think Wednesday was able to convey, and soft lips pressed themselves against her own. It took her a moment for her body to catch up to her brain, but as soon as it did her eyes slipped closed and she kissed back just as gently. The kiss lasted only a few seconds, but they were more than enough to fill her stomach with wild butterflies going crazy inside of her while every single hair on her body stood on end, saluting to the girl that made it all happen.
She kept her eyes closed even after their lips parted, wanting to get lost in the moment forever, until those very same lips that rendered her completely useless pressed a parting kiss to her jaw, lingering for barely a second before going away entirely.
She forced herself to open her eyes and the sight before her left her breathless all over again.
Wednesday Addams was smiling.
