Vongola Fantasy: The Overseer

Summary:

Some people are naturally gifted at seeing the bigger picture, they provide the safety of foresight and help to protect the people around them. Within the Vongola, they're called "Overseers" and don't often exist in every generation. With the 10th Generation rising, The Princess of the Vongola was next to become Overseer, and she was going to meet Decimo's Family whether she likes it or not because just like anyone in the Vongola, they can never catch a fucking break.

Notes:

HELL YEAH my 2010 cringe teen self has been UNLEASHED this is going to be the weirdest ever because my writing style has changed a lot in the past 8 years when i first published this self insert. Expect cringe, cursing, and sporadic updates over years(?). i have 11 existing chapters to rewrite and 20 draft chapters to go through oh boy let's see how long my dying will lasts and how many chapters i can get out before my ADHD decides to hyperfixate on another thing.

Honestly i wrote this back then just because i wanted to date and marry the fuck out of Yamamoto Takeshi, and frankly still do. He's a sweetheart and too pure for the world. That's why he doesnt actually exist :')

Do note the disclaimer at the end of the chapter.

Chapter Text

A young lady with piercing blue eyes stared out the window of a silent, private jet. She has an air of calm and importance, and the small team of 5 suited men around her remain alert to receive any orders she relays.

*ACHOO*

"Boss! Do you need a tissue?! Medicine?!" they all immediately rushed to her side.

"OH MY GOD All I did was sneeze, back off!" The lady drew her gun and the men immediately backed off.

Never mind, the illusion of competence sure wore off fast.

A week earlier was when it all began.

The "Princess" of the Vongola, which is a title that only exists because she was the adopted little girl that the 9th took in eleven years ago. She had always been perceptive, which was the main reason she survived in the mafia. And now that handy perception skill was telling her that something was going to happen and she wasn't gonna like it.

"You called, Nono?"

"Yes, Fina. Come in."

Serafina de Vongole, one of the youngest and most skilled hitmen in the Vongola, deftly closed the wooden door behind her and took a seat beside the 9th.

"Relax my dear daughter. You'll work yourself into a panic like this," the 9th chuckled and patted her shoulder, offering her a cup of tea that seemed to be prepared specifically for her.

She let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding as she picked up the teacup. "Sorry, father, and thank you. Things have been relatively on edge, with that looming around the corner."

"Perceptive as ever. It was high time we had another Overseer; it's been 3 generations. This generation will need one the most."

"Way to put pressure on me, father," Fina laughed. "So, I assume there's something that's come up?"

"Not exactly. But you're needed in Japan soon. It's time."

The teacup in her hand stilled. Fina stared at her father for a while, processing the information before directing her eyes to the beautifully brown liquid in her cup. A sigh escapes her.

"That... was actually earlier than I expected. Well, not like I can see the future or anything."

"Haha, alas, that would mess up the laws that govern our universe," the 9th paused for a while, letting the silence settle and calm the atmosphere in the room. "Fina, I've already arranged for your squad to take care of all the arrangements for this job. Reborn will be there to train Decimo, but this would be good experience for you too. Your right hand will give you all the details later; you'll have a week to prepare. Remember your family house back in Japan?"

"Oh god no..." Fina groaned.

"I'm sorry, my dear. It was the most inconspicuous place that was also within Decimo's neighbourhood. We however can take down the nameplate and change it-"

"No! That house stays as it is. I... I'll use my old surname while there. It'll also help to blend in a little," she bit her lip as she said that, but looked right at the 9th resolutely. "This mission is crucial to the famiglia's future after all."

"..." He looked back at her, equal parts concerned and unconvinced, but nodded anyway.

"Pace yourself in Japan. In fact, find a nice boy to marry into the famiglia while you're at it. We have high standards though!" Timoteo barked out a laughter at Fina's reddening face.

"F-father!"

"Ah let your old man have a good laugh every now and then. Alright, I won't hold you up any longer, you have a lot to get ready for."

Fina stood up and recomposed herself with a little huff before stalking out, much to the amusement of the 9th.

And so here we were, with a pissed-off young boss slumped into her unnecessarily plush seat and her scared-shitless but also overly loyal team.

"...Sit the fuck down and stay down until we land. We're on a job. Act like it!"

"Yes, boss. We were just worried."

"I sneezed. I didn't suddenly turn into a zombie-infecting virus carrier from Resident Evil that needs to be smothered and contained. Now contain yourselves. Also, Dante, can I have that file?"

"Here. We've got most of the area covered with a prelim search and also located the Decimo candidate's house. The school area has nothing out of the ordinary, and no history of any other famiglias in the area other than one Tomaso famiglia for some reason... but the current boss is one of the students and just known to be... eccentric."

Fina raised an eyebrow.

Dante just briefly waved his hands around in a gesture that was akin to vague confusion.

"Okay... well the Tomaso have never been a famiglia that liked to stand out, so I don't think anything will go wrong there."

"Still, please be on guard, boss."

She snapped the folder shut and sent a pointed look at him. "I'm aware, Dante. Stop mother-henning me."

"GAH how can I not worry?!" he suddenly jumped out of his seat. "This is the first time our boss will be away for an undetermined amount of time! Can we not all move to Japan with you? Cavallone's men follow him everywhere!"

"Fucking hell, are the other FOUR people behind you ghosts or something?" she turned to her other men and mouthed 'Sorry', "You're acting as if you're sending a toddler into a black Friday sale. Besides, you realize that Cavallone never stays in one place for longer than a week right? He goes on jobs that NEED a lot of men. He's also useless without them..." Fina muttered the last part under her breath.

"What?"

"AND, in case you forgot, we're a special ops squad that requires more people on base than OFF it," electing to not dignify his question with a response, she continued, "at least for now that is, we're getting really good at groundwork."

"But what about me? Your right-hand man should be able to be by his boss at all times." Dante was breaking out the puppy eyes and Fina was about ready to shoot him, airborne or not.

"Oh my fucking god it's like you didn't read the mission file at all, I'M GOING TO BE UNDERCOVER. AS A STUDENT. LIKE I SHOULD BE. YOU'RE 30, I'M 14. But NOOOO, somehow here I am being the one babysitting a bunch of grown-ass men." Fina got up to pace around the plane in exasperation, throwing her hands in the air.

"Bu-"

"No. This discussion is over. Go to sleep. I'm strangling whoever wakes me up and writing them off as an expendable casualty."

With that final warning, silence finally settled and she managed to get some fucking rest.

Some hours later in the evening when their jet landed:

"Alright people, look alive!" Fina turned to quickly brief her team. "First, once we leave the airport, we're going to be speaking in Japanese-"

Instantly a chorus of groans and complaints rang out.

"Jesus Christ who died and made you lot boss? No objections."

It was relatively straightforward to be honest. She did want a small team here as backup, hence only 4 people would stay. They would be staying in different places around Namimori, but still close enough to rush over if backup was needed, and also skilled enough to hold their own in combat. So after a simple debrief, they all head to their respective houses and take some time to get settled in.

"Alright, Dante, you're coming with me for today."

"Yes, boss. ...can I really not convince Emil or Sinclair to swap places with me...?"

Fina threw him a disbelieving look.

"Dante, do you really have no idea why I arranged for you to stay in Italy?"

"I do have an idea but..." Said man everted his gaze as if guilty of something. OH, he fucking knew.

"Sigh, as much as you can't stand Gaia, I am not leaving my left-hand alone in Italy to deal with... everything while my right-hand goofs off in Japan because he doesn't fucking trust his boss" The disbelieving look turned to a withering one and the older man at least had the decency to be embarrassed.

Dante threw his hands up in surrender. "You win boss. I have nothing to say to that."

"Also I refuse to be mother-henned by you for another second," Fina shrugged. "If you persisted I would have resorted to threats of personally feeding you to the Varia."

"BOSS???"

"Ah shut it, you get a treat today. Let's go have dinner and you can stay for one night before I change my mind, ya doofus."

The next morning, after a very reluctant goodbye, Fina felt like she could breathe again.

She stepped out of the gate of her house and took a better look at her surroundings in the daylight. Yeap, nothing much had changed in a small town like this. Though seeing and having to use an old name was painful in a different way, she sighed and simply reasoned that she would have to face this trauma again one day anyway.

"Let's see, so this way is where il decimo candidato's house is. Looks normal."

Fina just casually walked past, not particularly wanting to draw any more attention to herself if possible. A difficult task, considering she stood out like a sore thumb due to her light-coloured curls and bright blue eyes. Regardless, she quickly went to her actual destination for the day: Namimori Middle School. She quickly passed whatever document she was supposed to bring to the administrator; a 5 min ordeal. Frankly, all this could have been done via mail but it gave her an excuse to look at the school herself before the semester started. So she did a very simple sweep of the buildings and found it... a little boringly normal.

With her recon job done, she sat down by a bench overlooking the field where the baseball team was practicing.

"Well, at least their students seem dedicated at least. It's a Saturday and they're still here."

Fina closed her eyes for a moment but the moment she did, she felt a presence approach her, fast. Her reflexes kicked in just in time to catch a stray baseball that was flying at her. Looking down, she was met with the sight of second-degree burns

What the F U C K?!

What kind of middle-schooler can throw like that?! While Fina was dumbstruck over what just happened, a tall and raven-haired boy that was probably like a full head taller than her ran over and apologised when he saw the burns. She saw the guilt flash across his eyes and before she could say anything, he ran back to his coach, exchanged some words, and ran back to her.

"Hi, I'm really sorry, I was the one that threw that ball, so come, I'll take you to the infirmary to get that cleaned and bandaged up." He smiled at Fina it was so blindingly pure that she briefly wondered if she was meeting god.

"Uh, you really don't have to though! I can handle this myself when I get home," Fina waved her hands at him, not wanting to trouble him. "You should get back to practice."

"No no, I already told my coach I would take the rest of the day off, and I feel responsible. Please?"

'Oh sweet Primo he's giving me the same puppy dog eyes Dante but it's so much cuter.'

Somewhere in Vongola HQ, Dante sneezed.

She let out a slightly exasperated sigh but smiled at him. "Alright, alright, lead the way then."

"Haha! Gladly!"

The boy swiftly cleaned and bandaged her hand, looking very pleased with himself.

"There we go! All done."

"Wow, that was fast. You're good at this." Fina looked at the first aid work and it was actually much better than what a lot of normal people could do.

"Well I do get injured quite often from baseball, so this is nothing!"

"Haha, you must be a great player then."

"Hmm, I'm still improving though!"

The two then end up sitting in the infirmary chatting, considering Fina didn't have much else to do and was taking her father's words to heart and 'pacing' herself, aka having hobbies outside the fucking mafia.

"I'm Yamamoto Takeshi! Man, I completely forgot to introduce myself earlier."

"Mikazuki Serafina. To be fair we were dealing with a grave medical emergency earlier," she held up her injured hand and gestured to it with an overly serious look on her face that had Yamamoto burst into laughter.

"Hahaha! You're fun to hang out with. Nice to meet you, Mikazuki-san."

"Aw just call me Fina, I'm sure my name is a mouthful no matter which one you use."

"Then you can call me Takeshi! Though I actually thought you were a foreigner with really good Japanese at first."

"I'm half, but apparently the surname was the only thing Japanese I inherited." She gestured to her hair and eyes with a deadpan expression.

"It must be hard to adjust suddenly coming over to Japan from Italy, but your Japanese is great!"

Fina shrugged in response. "Well, thank you for the first aid, Takeshi-kun. I should really get going."

"It's fine! It was the least I could do! Now give me a moment, and we can start heading home." Yamamoto gets up to put the stuff away before Fina could react.

"Eh? It's alright, I can get back on my own. I already feel bad for taking up your time today," She got up and began helping him but the baseball player just told her to take it easy.

By the time the two leave the school, it was late in the afternoon. Like a gentleman, Yamamoto saw her home and invited her to drop by his restaurant tomorrow for lunch since it was a Sunday. She accepted and went back into her house to finish up some paperwork as well as prepare for the inevitable bullshit that would come her way once Reborn showed up. It always did.

Notes:

I haven't written in ages and I feel the rust in my brain. Next, we'll meet the main cast and Fina will inevitably lose her mind for various reasons.

I AM ALSO IGNORING THE FACT THAT JAPAN HAS A HALF-DAY SCHOOL ON SATURDAY. GOODBYE. I REFUSE TO ELABORATE.

Oh god the chapters get longer why do I do this to myself
