She tried to hide it but sometimes things didn’t always go to plan. She didn’t usually have bad depressive episodes and they usually didn’t last too long. Her manic episodes were more intense and her normal periods were common too but her depressive episodes were very mild and almost non-existent. They did use to be a bit worse when she was younger and at the start of middle school but they were never really bad these days.
Back in middle school her depressive episodes were so bad and pure tourter for her. She would lay in bed for days on end and skip meals and not each much when she did eat. She would feel empty and like life wasn’t worth living. It sometimes got so bad that she would use a blade on her arms or even use her own quirk to hurt herself and that was where most of her acid burns came from not from quirk accidents like she told everyone. One time she had a depressive episode so bad she layed in bed for two weeks and 4 days in the summer after her second year in middle school.
Her behaviour had worried her parents so much that they took her to a specialist to get her assessed and she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Mina and her parents did a lot of research into bipolar disorder and the symptoms so they could all understand it better. Mina’s mum was very quick to pick up on what her daughter's manic episodes were like and how to make sure she was safe and ok while in them and was always there to talk to her if she needed it. Her dad was a bit better at dealing with the depressive episodes and making things comfortable or soothing for her. They both tried to be open and talk about things with her no matter what it was and it brought them closer together as a family. They looked at a low dose medication and therapy for her and they both worked well for Mina and her episodes were easier for her to deal with. Her depressive episodes got a lot better but her manic episodes were still quite intense, just not as intense as they used to be.
She was so happy when she got into ua and was in class 1a of the hero course. She was so happy and on a high. On her first day she saw Kirishima from middle school and they ended up walking to class together and then they met a very chill guy called Sero with a cool tape quirk. She also quickly became friends with Denki who was blonde and had an electric quirk and Bakugou who was also blonde but had an explosive quirk with an explosive personality to match. She also became good friends with all the girls in her class too. There was Jirou who had amazing taste in music and her purple hair was so cool as was her quirk earphone jack. Then there was Ochako who was obviously a lesbian in denial as she had seen the way that girl looks at tsu. Her short brown hair and rosy cheeks were adorable and because of her quirk she always had her pinky raised so she didn’t accidentally float anything. Tsu was cool and had amazing long green hair and momo had beautiful long raven hair. There was also Hagakure who was invisible but great fun to be with. She was enjoying her time at ua and her bipolar wasn’t acting up at all and even her depressive episodes weren’t so bad and she could drag herself out of bed and to class. Then they introduced the dorm system and this worried her but her parents talked to Aizawa and her assured them that she would be ok. She did switch to seeing hound dog for her weekly therapy sessions so she didn’t have to leave campus and she kept her medication hidden in her bathroom cabinet so none of her friends found it.
One morning she woke up and felt nothing. She felt empty and very annoyed at her alarm clock. She smashed her fist down on her alarm clock and layed in bed staring ahead at the wall and didn’t even sit up. Her limbs felt heavy and she saw no point in getting out of bed that day. She knew she would miss school but just couldn’t bring herself to care at all. As she rolled over she heard a knock at her door and then a voice called out asking her if she was ready to go. She called back saying she was ill. The next day was the same and so was the next day. That day she was lying in bed crying when she got a call from her parents so she lifted her heavy aching arm to reach over and grab her phone and hit the accept call button. She talked to her parents and told her what was going on and her parents promised to visit her soon and she was left feeling a little bit better but not by much. The fourth day she felt worse than before and buried her face into her pillow and started to sob uncontrollably into it. She sent a text to Iida saying she was still ill to avoid anyone asking her questions and ended up crying herself to exhaustion and fell back to sleep. She woke again around midday and saw her mum and sent her a text hoping she was doing better. She just stared blankly at her wall with tears streaming down her face when there was a knock at her door. Then another and another. Then her door was forced open and an angry blonde stormed in closely followed by an apologetic Kirishima, Denki and Sero. She just looked at them blankly as tears continued to escape her eyes. This worried the boys as they rushed to ask what was wrong even bakugou and she was just layed there feeling like speaking or existing was too much for her right now. She takes a deep sigh and opens her mouth to speak only to end up sobbing. She ends up being sat up and held in Kirishima’s arms crying into his chest while his hand ran through her hair to try and comfort her. She managed to calm down and sat up on her own.
“I have bipolar disorder and I am having one of my depressive episodes,” she explained “they used to be bad in middle school but they haven’t been this bad for a while.”
She looked down but she was also scared she was going to lose her friends.
“I went through a depressive episode in middle school and also had a lot of self worth issues,” Kirishima said.
“I have ADHD and grew up beliving i was stupid,” Denki contributed.
“I have anxiety and it greatly impacts my life and the only reason i seem so chill is my meds,” Sero chimed in.
They had all shared their struggles and Mina thought that was it until an unusually quiet Bakugou spoke up saying “I have bpd and it almost ruined my life.”
Mina knew she had the right friends and she loved them all as they spent the rest of the day with her and did whatever they could to help her and three days later when she was back in class she was surprised that they were having a mental health awareness lesson. She was also surprised by the fact that her friends had also read up on bipolar disorder just so they could help her. She really loved all of them and she was sure that they also loved her.
