Chapter Text
It starts off on a day like any other. A church, and two people hanging out in the chapel after service. Everyone has left, and Sarvente, who has just held the service, is expecting a relatively calm Sunday with her roommate Ruvyzvat. The plan is for the two of them to spend the day together, and Sarv is practically beaming at the opportunity to spend more time with Ruv. Being that normally he's rather cold and distant. That, of course, is not how it turns out.
One second there is complete silence, only the heavy steps of her roommate can be heard. One second later, a glowing purple pentagram appears on the ceiling. And another second later a figure falls through, crashing to the ground at an alarming speed, and breaking some of the floorboards in the process. The sound is enough to startle both people in the room, and each turn their gaze to the person who is now lying completely still on the ground. Sarvente has seen a lot in her time in hell, arguably this isn't even her first time seeing this exact thing happen to this exact same person. But the sight still stuns her, reminding her of a life she left years ago.
The demon on the floor has numerous metal rods going through their body, and if they didn't have exceptional regeneration, they'd be bleeding out right about now. Their stomach is pierced in three different locations and is definitely the worst of the damage done to them, but they have cuts and bruises all over their body. Which would have been healing, if it weren't for the fact that the demon is clearly passed out, with no ability to tend to their own injuries.
"Jesus Christ..." Sarv manages to say, still stuck in place by the sight.
"Is it alive?" Ruv asks behind her. He's noticed the chest of the creature rising and sinking, as if it's breathing, but he also knows no human could survive what he is currently seeing in front of him. Sarv slowly nods in response.
"Yeah... they should be able to survive that..." she takes a moment to gather her thoughts before saying anything else, not entirely sure what would help the situation.
"They can't heal in this state... Those rods are in the way." She states out loud, hoping that explaining the situation will somehow make it make sense.
Fortunately, Ruv is much better at handling dire situations, and he immediately moves over to the body on the ground. "You want them alive, right?" he looks up at Sarv, one of the metal rods already in his hand. She only nods in response. "Alrighty then," he confirms, and he promptly pulls the rod out of the demon. He's actually quite relieved that he's dealing with a demon here, as if it was a human, the scene would be far more gory. Instead of blood, guts and god knows what else spewing out of the body in front of him, the open wound simply closes itself when the rod is out. It's still healing slowly, but then again, what would you expect?
Ruv makes quick work of the other two rods, musing at how easily the demon body regenerates, and looking up as the demon moans in pain as the last rod is removed. Ruv catches himself wondering if it can somehow wake up so soon after such a severe injury, or if the noise is more just an automatic bodily reaction of sorts.
He doesn't have to wonder long, as the demon suddenly shoots up, gasping from air and clutching their stomach. Ruv shoots back, now a bit worried about having a demon just a few feet away from him. He doesn't know much about their nature, other than the few things his roommate has told him, and she's not exactly happy to talk about her past. Although, said roommate has now finally collected her thoughts and is making her way over to the two of them.
"Ryx." she firmly states, anger apparent in her voice. "What the HELL are you doing showing up here like this?" She glared at the demon on the floor, presumably named Ryx, who meets her gaze, smiling despite how much pain they'd presumably have to be in. "I thought I'd stop by and say hi, been a while and all that." They chuckle, which turns into a pained cough at the end. They curse under their breath and start again.
"Look, I figured that because of my injuries," they gesture towards their body, "it'd probably be clever to go to the best healer I know for help." They raise an eyebrow, "though clearly I went here for your friend's sake, as he was the only one that bothered to try to help me." They once again chuckle dryly, this time without almost dying at the end. Sarv does not find the humor in the situation.
"I can't believe that you DARE show up here like this at all. And excuse me for not immediately jumping to your rescue, I am a bit out of training for what to do when a goddamn demon with fatal injuries falls through my roof!" she yells the last part, her face red, and horns materializing on her head as she starts swapping into her demon form. This shouldn't be all that alarming as this always happens when she's angry, but considering how rarely she gets angry, it's alarming nonetheless.
Sarv takes a moment to catch her breath, calming herself down a bit in the process, and the horns slowly disappear. Ruv releases a breath he didn't know he was holding, he has always found Sarv's demon form to be somewhat threatening. Not that he's any less threatened by a random, strange demon in the church. Especially with the tension between them and Sarvente.
"Look, Sarv, I'm sorry. I didn't really think past the whole needing help thing. I didn't mean to wreck your day." The demon says, sounding genuine this time. Sarv nods. "I didn't mean to yell at you either, I can tell you're hurt..." She sighs. "It's just so long since I've seen you Ryx, hell, I barely even recognized you when you fell through here."
Ryx nods in response. "That's fair, I'm not the same uh, young girl that I was when we lived together." Ruv glances over at Ryx on the word "girl", taking in their features. He finds it almost hard to believe they ever looked feminine.
Their upper body is completely nude, with visible muscle and a masculine chest. The only clothing they're actually wearing is a pair of black cargo pants, and whatever they'd be wearing underneath. Their entire physique is generally masculine, and if someone has told Ruv they were a girl, he'd probably not believe them.
"What? Don't like what you see?" Ruv looks up, locking eyes with the demon. "I know, I know, I'm not exactly your idea of a stereotypical woman." They laugh. "But what I lack in tits, I make up for in other places." Ryx grins and looks up at Sarv again. "Aren't you going to at least introduce me to your soulmate over here?"
"Whatever," Sarv rolls her eyes.
"And he's not my soulmate, we're bonded in a mutual agreement of protection, not in love."
"Sounds like a soulmate." Ryx retorts, lifting an eyebrow.
"Well it's not." Sarv firmly states back, stretching out her arm so Ryx can grab it. They do, and get up on their legs with relative ease. Though they do sway a bit as they stand up.
Standing at their full height they're a bit taller than Sarv, but still shorter than Ruv who towers over them both. He's about a head taller than Sarv when standing upright, and about half a head taller than Ryx.
Ryx is otherwise fairly alternative-looking. They have piercings through their ears and lip, their eyes are purple and black, and their hair is short and black with a white stripe going through it. "Alrighty, let's get the pleasantries out of the way." Ryx grins. "Hello, I am Exestryx, but that's long and uninteresting so people call me Ryx. I am a demon, an omnibus to be exact, and I humbly thank you, o tall one, for saving my life."
While the statement is somewhat insincere, the saving their life part is true, and Ruv nods back in response. "I am Ruvyzvat, Ruv for short. I live with Sarv." He has questions, like what the fuck is an omnibus, but he holds back from asking, and settles with just introducing himself. If it's important for him to know what this guy's deal is, he'll just have to figure it out as they go.
"Alright then" Sarv breaks the silence that forms, causing the other two to look at her for a minute instead of each other. "Since you're here anyways, I suppose we can take some time to catch up. It's been a while, and I've honestly missed you." She sits down on one of the seats in the church, motioning for both the others to do the same while she talks. "Ruv often wants to know about my old life, so I guess this is a good an oppurtunity to talk about it as any." Ryx nods, sitting down on a seat in front of her, Ruv sitting down on a seat in front of both of them so they form sort of a triangle.
"Well, my favorite hobby is talking about myself." Ryx smiles, "So please, ask me something." They look at Ruv expectantly. Well, this is as good an opportunity as any to ask some things he's wondering, Ruv supposes. "First things first then," Ruv begins, a thick Russian accent shining through as he pronounces the words, "What is the situation between you two?" He looks between them.
Sarv furrows her brow and hesitates, looking to Ryx to answer. "Do we just... Tell him the truth?" Ryx asks in response, "I´m not opposed to it, but he might struggle a bit on the uptake. Cultural differences and all that." They continue. Sarv slowly nods, taking a moment to think about it. "I think it´s better to just explain as best we can. If he struggles you can elaborate." Ryx nods. "Alright, so, the cultures here do clash a little... In hell we don´t have a concept of family the same way you guys do, as we aren´t birthed, but rather created. But once you are made, it´s a battle against every other demon around you to survive, so it´s not abnormal to team up with another demon who can help you. They become a bit like a sibling. And some young demons are fortunate and have older demons adopt them, saving them from the kill or be killed environment we are usually forced to exist in. They become kind of like parents. So Sarv and I effectively grew up as siblings... Though, technically by human standards, you could argue we are closer to a couple." Ryx elaborates. "The issue with comparing cultures this way is that Sarv and I have always had a sexual relationship, and with the pretense that we are siblings, that becomes really weird. Even though the "sibling" couples you have in hell pretty much always have a sexual relationship, considering the general need to survive and all that." And Ruv is right back to being confused again. He's not really planning on pushing it, but he is surprised Sarv has ever had a sexual relationship at all. She's wanted to be a nun for as long as he's known her, and a fairly major part of that is abstinence. Honestly, he had assumed her to be a virgin until now.
Almost like Ryx has read Ruv's mind they comment "Let's be real, no sex demon goes an entire life without sex. What would they eat?" giving him a slightly smug look as they say it. Ruv being confused is pretty much the new normal now, and he wonders why it never occurred to him that Sarv could be a succubus before now. Her light, demonic outfit did kind of scream sex, but when she transformed he rarely had the time to consider that. Usually he'd be pretty on edge by the time she transformed.
"She's not a succubus." Once again, Ryx seems to have read his mind, or maybe he said his thoughts out loud in his confusion? Ruv isn´t entirely sure. "She's also an omnibus, like me." "Well then the next question should come naturally." Ruv responds, somewhat sarcastically. "An omnibus is neither incubus nor succubus. They are both. Generally able to take on any position in a relationship... and well, with certain physical attributes to match." Ryx quickly answers, already knowing the question. "And... we´re not generally liked by other sex demons. We´re a bit of a minority so I suppose it´s easier to just exclude us." Ruv nods, grateful for the explanation, but left with a lot of follow-up questions. Although, he doesn't get to get started before several glowing circles start appearing along the floor. and clawed creatures start crawling out.
