Chapter Text
Wednesday was not exited for school. It was probably at the top of her list of things she didn’t want to do. And right underneath it, at number two, was meeting her roommate. Wednesday had insisted that if she were going to be forced to come to this dreadful place, she at least have her own room to write and play her cello in peace. Unfortunately, things did not work out in her favor.
Wednesday huffed and turned the door handle. As soon as she walked into the room, she felt an overwhelming urge to walk right back out again. It was blinding; from the collection of stuffed animals in one corner to the stained glass window that caused rainbow light to cover the floor. The girl laying on her bed was almost as bright as the room, if not brighter. She lifted her head when she head the door open, then bounded over when she saw her new roommate.
”Hi roomie!! Welcome to your new home.” She gushed, coming in for a hug. Wednesday stepped away from her open arms and gave her a look. The girl faltered a little. “Got it, not a hugger.” She laughed awkwardly. “I’m Enid. Enid Sinclair.” She introduced herself. “Wednesday Addams.” Wednesday said in a monotone voice. “Woah, that’s such a cool name! I’ve never met a Wednesday before.” Enid complimented. Wednesday didn’t say anything. Instead, she walked further into the room to see where she would be sleeping.
”Oh! Here, let me help you with your things!” Enid said, rushing over to the pile of luggage that had been dropped outside their room. She lifted Wednesday’s trunk easily (which was surprising, Enid didn’t look nearly as strong as she was) and carried it into the room. She mist have noticed Wednesday staring, because she laughed nervously. “Werewolf thing.” She explained, smiling. Wednesday nodded and also made a mental note of her small fangs.
The two finished unpacking Wednesday’s side of the room fairly quickly, and then Enid insisted they go on a tour of the school. And so, Wednesday changed into her uniform and they went to the courtyard together. Somehow, the school felt slightly less vast and dreary walking next to Enid. Wednesday put this thought in the back of her mind.
“So, you already know that the school is full of outcasts. People who don’t fit in, and so on. There’s all kinds of outcasts that go here, but the three main cliques are furs -like me- fangs, and scales.” Enid explained. The two were standing off to the side of the courtyard, watching the students from afar. “And that-“ Enid pointed at a girl sitting on the edge of the fountain. Her hand drifted back and forth in the water, and Wednesday noticed silvery scales decorating her from her fingers up to her wrist. “Is Bianca Barclay. She’s probably the most popular girl in school right now, and she used to be dating that boy, Xavier Thorpe. The broke up not too long ago, but no one really knows why.”
Wednesday looked up at Enid. “Ah, sorry! I love gossip, I can’t help myself.” The blonde apologized. “It’s okay. It’s a good thing to know someone who has insight on every student here.” Wednesday said, scanning the courtyard. Enid nodded, and then they went silent for a while. After a few minutes, a boy walked up to Enid, whose face turned pink when she saw him. “Ajax!” She practically shouted.
”Enid!” Ajax said, smiling. “Have you heard about you roommate yet?” He asked in a hushed voice. It was obvious he hadn’t seen Wednesday. Enid was probably blocking her from view. Enid’s smile faded into a slightly worried face. “I heard she eats human flesh.” Ajax continued. Enid just nodded, it was obvious she was panicking a little. Wednesday suddenly felt like stabbing Ajax, right in the stomach. She had a feeling it wasn’t because of the flesh eating comment he had made.
”Quite the contrary.” She said instead. Enid shifted and smiled tightly. “Ajax…this is my roommate, Wednesday!” She said. Ajax looked stunned. “I actually feed it to my carnivorous plants.” Wednesday said, turning her body to face Ajax. He didn’t say anything, instead he glanced at Enid and then back to Wednesday. “Uh- sorry.” He apologized. Then, he walked away as quickly as he could.
”Yikes.” Enid said, looking at Wednesday. “Gorgons, am I right? I mean, he’s cute, just kinda…slow.” Wednesday nodded, and they went back to watching the other students for a while. “Hey, do you like hot cocoa?” Enid interrupted the silence. “I prefer black coffee.” Wednesday said flatly. Enid nodded. “Okay, well, do you want to go get some coffee and cocoa then? It’s cold out here.” Wednesday nodded, then followed the werewolf back inside.
Maybe- just maybe- Wednesday didn’t mind her too much. And maybe this school year wouldn’t be too bad; as long as she was around.
