Chapter Text
Enid was having a good day.
A new semester started and everything was back to normal. She was finally able to transform, they were able to solve the mystery about the murders, and managed to defeat the Hyde, who they found out was the seemingly harmless sheep that was Tyler. She'd continue living in the dorm with her borderline-psychopathic, color allergic, homicidal maniac, and stone-cold roommate, Wednesday Addams. And after everything they've been through, the young lycan had gotten used to the unique 'quirks' of her roommate and had actually come to like them.
So yeah, everything is back to normal.
Except it's not.
She had come back in the afternoon to their dorm after a short hangout with Yoko ready to annoy chat with Wednesday when she finds her on the cold floor, face flat and unmoving.
Without even a second of registering the state of her roommate, Enid runs to Wednesday's side and picks her up from the cold, hard floor; which proved to be as easy as lifting a feather, thanks to her werewolf genes. She lays the young Addams on the bed and gently tries to wake her. It took a couple of callings and gentle shakes on the shoulder before the goth stirs awake, groaning in pain.
"Wednesday? Willa? Can you hear me?" Enid tries to whisper as softly as she can as to not startle the girl but the panic and worry seeps out of her voice. She watches as Wednesday scrunches her eyebrows before slowly opening her eyes, dark ambers peeking through.
A hundred thoughts ran through her head as she waits for the Addams to say something. The said girl blinks slowly as if getting her eyes used to the well-lit room, there was confusion swirling in those two brown orbs flickering around until it lands on Enid. Enid waits, waits for her to say something, anything, because Wednesday is officially starting to freak her out. Finally, she opens her mouth and speaks,
"Who are you?"
That is not what she expects to hear.
She expects for Wednesday to open her eyes, answer a simple, "Yes." and tells her to go away. She expects her to sit up and say she's just trying a new suicidal technique or something along the lines of typical-Wednesday. She did not expect for her deadpan roommate to scrunch her face in confusion and ask her who she is.
"U-um.. What?" She sputters.
The young Addams tilts her head slightly. Cute. She blinks which for some people would be normal but Enid knows that Wednesday rarely blinks so she knows something's actually wrong.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Wednesday repeats. Her voice held such gentleness that Enid didn't even know she could have. It was almost child-like and sweet. Now Enid is as confused as her.
"You don't remember me, Willa?" She asks hoping that her question would magically make the girl's memories come back. Wednesday shakes her head no and Enid feels the blood drain on her face.
Okay. No big deal. It seems like her roommate had just stumbled somewhere, hit her head so hard that she forgets who Enid is, talks gently, and looks at her with innocence. Yep, just a normal day in Enid's week. Yup, yup, yup...
"NO IT ISN'T!!!" Enid snaps and stands up pulling her hair in frustration and panic. "What the frick is happening right now?! Everything was going so well, we defeated the hyde, I have Wednesday as my roommate again, I even got to paint my nails with Thing yesterday— wait Thing?! Where even is Thing?! I got a good score on the quiz today and I finally transformed into a werewolf after so many excruciating years! Why is this happening to m—"
"You're a werewolf?!"
Enid was snapped from her panic attack by the enthusiastic question from her goth roommate. She took note of the sparkle behind the Addams' eyes and the look of anticipation and excitement written on her pale face. Enid pauses for a moment and finds the right words to say.
"Yes..? Sure am!" She answers a bit unsurely with faux confidence and a smile, nervous as to what made the girl so excited to hear that she's a werewolf. And as she hopes for the best, Wednesday surprises her with a response.
"I.. I like werewolves.." The teen responds a bit shyly. Enid cannot believe her ears, is this girl really her borderline-psychopathic, color allergic, homicidal maniac, and stone-cold roommate? Because call her crazy but she just heard Wednesday tell her she likes werewolves in a cute, bashful way.
"R-really?" She couldn't help herself say. Wednesday nods. Enid observes the girl squirm and scratch the back of her neck, seemingly nervous before asking another question,
"Can you turn into one right now?"
Wednesday looks at her with so much anticipation and Enid couldn't help but pinch herself to contain the need to hug the shorter girl, "Ah.. Well, it's not really the full moon right now so I can't really show you," Sadness painted the young Addams' face, "b-but! I can show you my claws? It's one thing that I can control even without transforming." Enid quickly adds the moment she saw the gloomy look from her roommate, which worked as Wednesday's face lits up almost immediately.
Enid lifts her left hand and shows it to Wednesday which took it with both her hands waiting in anticipation. Enid suppresses a squeal at how cute her usually cold roommate is acting before letting her nails or her claws out.
Wednesday's face filled with fascination. Enid watched the corners of her friend's lips curl upward in a small happy smile while slowly caressing the sharp edges of her claws. The werewolf is stunned, Wednesday Addams is smiling. She feels the fast thumps in her chest as her cheeks flush at the gesture of her roommate. Why is she feeling so flustered at the sight of her friend smiling? What even is this feeling spreading through her veins like hot lava? Enid shakes off the weird thoughts she's having and focused on the bizarre scene before her.
She retracts her claws and places her hands behind her back. The way Wednesday's eyes followed with a look of disappointment did not go unnoticed but as much as she wants to make her roommate happy, she needs to get to the bottom of this and figure out how to turn Wednesday back to normal.
"Let's start with introductions first, I'm Enid Sinclair. You can call me Enid." She starts and smiles. If it was anything like the first time they met, Wednesday would look at her with contempt and not even bother returning the introduction, but this Wednesday is different.
The girl before her smiled slightly and nodded curtly in appreciation before talking, "Wednesday Addams." Enid is amused to know that her roommate is still a woman of few words even after a 180 degree personality change.
"Nice to meet you, Wednesday. It seems you've forgotten but I'm your roommate and you're in a school named Nevermore. Do you remember anything about that?" Wednesday shakes her head no and Enid sighs. I guess this might be more difficult than she thought it'd be.
"Um well, how about telling me what you remember? Maybe that'll help me solve how this happened." She tries and her roommate ponders for a bit before nodding. Geez, this Wednesday is a different kind of quiet than her Wednesday.
Her Wednesday? Enid mentally facepalms herself with the thought.
"I'm Wednesday Addams. My father is Gomez Addams and my mother is Morticia Addams. I have a brother named Pugsley and a family butler named Lurch. I have an uncle named Uncle Fester and a grandmother we call Grandmama. And a disembodied hand named Thing."
Enid nods. These are all things she knew already, she's met Wednesday's parents a couple of times and saw her uncle last time when he visited Nevermore. She already knew of her brother which was the reason why Wednesday was transferred to the academy. For the others, Wednesday had talked about them during their late-night talks when neither girls can't sleep.
Enid is lost in thought. Wednesday seems fine and retained all the information except her time here at Nevermore. The question is why is she acting so different? It's unlikely that she was like this before she transferred to their school because judging from their first meeting, the young Addams really was as cold as ice and hard as stone. Why is this memory loss associated with a personality change?
"I like your sweater." Enid was once again broke out from her thoughts by Wednesday's remark. Did she just say she likes her sweater? The wolf-girl looks down on her pink, fluffy, knitted sweater and looks back at Wednesday in disbelief.
"Thanks... I like yours too?" She answered awkwardly. Now it was Wednesday's turn to look down at her black dress and hums in gratitude.
"Yes, I agree. I appreciate your words. I have a pink dress in the same style, we could've been matching in colors, what a shame."
Now this is really weird. Wednesday has a pink dress? No way that's true. The goth is literally allergic to color, why would she own a dress with such a bright shade?
"I can't believe what I'm hearing right now." Enid mutters under her breath. She can't solve this problem on her own, she needs some help.
And just like magic, as if the gods had heard her pleas, a stitched-up hand pops out from the window and crawls towards them, tapping the wooden floor to say hi. Enid exhales a breath she didn't know she was holding in relief and almost cries at the sight of their trusted friend.
"Thing! Where have you been?? I was suffering alone!" She exclaimed and Thing signs indicating confusion. Enid swallows thickly and let out a sign before gesturing the hand to come closer.
"Come here, it's gonna be a long story."
