Leighton didn’t mind fucking on the first date.
Fucking was her first date.
Her only date, mostly, but she had had no problems with that up until that point.
(Lies—she definitely had had problems about it before, but she didn’t like thinking about it).
So, when Tatum had kissed her in the gallery, quickly caressing from the nape to the side of her neck, her entire body trembled.
The anticipation of what was to come climbing from her toes to the inside of her cheeks.
God.
Tatum was a great kisser.
She had soft lips and her chapstick tasted like vanilla and coconut cream (she should ask her where she bought it), and having her so close made Leighton catch a whiff of her expensive perfume—and then her tongue licked its way into her mouth and her body went numb.
A surge of heat pooled down her belly.
Crash!
“Holy shit.”
She had dropped her whisky glass into the ground.
Droplets of alcohol staining the expensive wooden floor, pieces of glass suddenly all around them.
Fuck, she wanted to die.
“Oh my God, oh my God.” Leighton started rambling as she looked around. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t—I wanted to—”
She felt like a complete doofus.
Oh crap, she was using the word doofus unironically.
She needed to spend way less time around Kimberly.
“They’re gonna ban me from this place forever, and it’s my first time here!” She quickly continued, refusing to meet Tatum’s eye, though she could feel the intensity of her gaze following her erratic movements. “I’m so sorry. This isn’t going as planned.”
There was a beat of silence.
Leighton’s heart thumped viciously against her ribcage.
Then, Tatum started laughing.
Leighton looked at her immediately.
Was she… Laughing at her?
She squinted her eyes.
No. The way Tatum was laughing held no malicious intent. Her eyes were closed and her head was slightly thrown back, exposing her neck and the way her giggle moved around her throat.
She was so pretty.
“You’re cute.” Tatum finally said when she looked back at Leighton. “Look at you… All blushy and embarrassed.”
Leighton would’ve pouted, but that would’ve proven Tatum right, and she wasn’t going to make an even bigger fool of herself right now.
“You…” Tatum started again. Inching closer as her words became a soft growl. “Are trouble.”
Leighton bit her lower lip.
“How?”
“You were almost going to make me break my golden rule.”
“Which is…?”
“No sex on the first date.”
Leighton’s face fell.
Oh.
Tatum laughed again.
“Is it…” Leighton looked around them, suddenly self conscious that anybody were looking their way—not because of the gay thing, mostly because of the… Being a complete idiot around Tatum thing. She didn’t need that sort of reputation following her around campus. “Is it a joke?”
“No,” Tatum smiled, taking Leighton’s hand in hers and giving it a reassuring squeeze. “I’m very much serious, but you should’ve seen your face!”
This time, Leighton did pout.
“Oh, come on. What kind of girl would I be if I didn’t leave you wanting more? I have to make sure you’ll come back.”
Leighton mirrored her smile: “Trust me, after this, I should be the one worried about whether or not you are coming back.”
“Are you kidding? I’m hooked.”
“Well, good… So am I.”

Surprisingly, to absolutely no one, having only one night stands didn’t really help in date planning.
Luckily for Leighton, Tatum seemed more than okay with taking care of what to do for their next outing.
She was still shocked that Tatum had asked her out a second time after the whole gallery fiasco (even though she had reassured her that she wanted them to keep seeing each other—could someone blame her though? Having to explain to Laird what had happened to then get him to get someone to clean up Leighton’s mess had been mortifying), but she wasn’t going to complain about it.
‘Dress cute,’ was Tatum’s only requirement, and so she did…
…After having a full on breakdown over not knowing what to wear in the middle of the room, thank God for Whitney, because she had helped her get through it. In her roommate’s words, all her clothes were cute, she was just too nervous to think logically about it.
And so, Tatum picked her up exactly at 7pm, like she had said. She had kissed her on the lips right outside the door, which hadn’t been the greatest idea because Bela had seen and she had hooted at them and Leighton had to spend the first part of the car ride explaining that Bela wasn’t fetishizing them, she was just… Weirdly supportive.
“Where are we going anyway?” She finally asked after a good fifteen minutes of comfortable silence and humming along to the music in Tatum’s car.
“You’ll see once we get there.” Tatum replied, a mischievous smile on her face, eyes never leaving the road as she kept driving. “You look so cute, though.”
Leighton felt herself blushing and she had to bite on her tongue to avoid giggling because she was a grown woman—not an eight year old girl watching kitten videos on Youtube.
Just as the sun was setting, they came to a stop near the dock. Leighton had no idea how far away they were from campus, nor how long the drive here had been, which should’ve alarmed her, because, really… Just how comfortable could one get with another person that they sorta barely knew before it became horribly cliché? However, her train of thought was interrupted as Tatum put a hand on her thigh, smiling at her before tilting her head, urging her to get out just as she did too.
“Tonight’s a full moon, you know?” Tatum said as Leighton closed the passenger’s door to her car. “My mom says that full moon nights are the best time to go out. She believes there’s some sort of… Spiritual connection with the moon and the human psyche.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah,” Tatum laughed, soft pink tinting her cheeks as Leighton started walking next to her towards the dock. “My mom is a total hippie. Think Gwyneth Paltrow but… Less cringy and definitely not making candles out of her vagina sweat.”
“I’m not judging. My mom would make candles out of her vagina sweat, but not because she’s in touch with her body’s energy or whatever, just because she’s that self absorbed.”
“Holy crap.”
“Yeah,” Leighton chuckled, her hand finding its way into Tatum’s as they arrived at the small line of boats near the shore. “It’s not great.”
“I didn’t think of asking before I did this, I’m afraid.” Tatum suddenly turned to face her, her eyes sparkling with doubt and sudden fear and Leighton quirked an eyebrow. “Do you get sea sick?”
“No,” she was quick to respond. Her thumb caressing Tatum’s hand. “My dad took my brother and I on way too many fishing trips when we were younger. I’m immune to it.”
Tatum let out a sigh of relief then.
“Okay… And you did say your favorite food was eggplant parmesan, right?”
Leighton nodded: “Yeah… I did.”
“Good.” Her smile suddenly invaded all of her features. “We’re here, then.”
Leighton looked around.
“Here… Where?”
“That’s my dad’s boat,” she said, pointing to the white yacht closest to the dock. It was subtly illuminated by candles and fairy lights, and if Leighton squinted, she could make out a table on the deck. “I asked him if we could borrow it for the night. His captain will sail us around for a bit while we have dinner. We can watch the moon go out together.”
For a second, maybe two, Leighton was left awestruck.
Thank God her mother had insisted on those ridiculous ‘proper etiquette’ lessons years ago, because that was the only thing keeping her mouth from dropping unceremoniously to the ground.
This was Tatum’s idea of a casual date?
Holy crap.
“I… Don’t know what to say.”
Tatum laughed, walking closer towards her to caress her cheekbone sweetly, and God—Leighton could melt.
“I hope you say yes, because I won’t be happy if we leave without having dinner.”
Leighton nodded. Tingles vibrating around her stomach.
Were these those idiotic butterflies that people kept referring to in dull heteronormative romance books? (Jesus Christ, the women’s center had done a number on her).
“By the way, I didn’t know what kind of wine you liked, so I got Louis Roederer's Rosé. I hope it’s okay.”
No, these weren’t butterflies.
These were fucking wasps.

Seen at 11:48pm.
So, Leighton had severely underestimated Tatum’s kissing abilities.
Granted, their kiss at the gallery had been cut short—it had been nothing but a taste of the actual big deal, and even though Leighton had imagined it would be good, she didn’t expect it to be this good.
She wasn’t even sure of how they had ended up on the water bed in the small room adjacent to the main cabin.
One second Tatum had been showing her the trophies that her dad kept around for bragging purposes (some of her tennis wins over the years), and the next, they were side by side on the bed, Tatum’s leg draped over Leighton’s hip, both of her hands securing the grip on Leighton’s neck as their kisses grew longer, more heated, and… Jesus fucking Christ.
Leighton was no virgin.
She had fucked half the queer community at Essex, MILFs in loveless marriages, a divorcée here and there. She liked to think of herself as someone who knew what she was doing in bed. She knew how to caress, how to kiss, how to bite. She thrived on getting the praise, on hearing the short breaths come out rushed, of seeing eyes turn white, of feeling the pulling on her hair or the nails scratching down her back. She was confident in her abilities—never once had a complaint.
And no, Tatum wasn’t complaining, of course. She was far too entertained with feeling Leighton’s tongue on her own to even think about it, but as the seconds went by, and as hands started to wander down, Leighton felt it.
Beyond the excitement and longing.
Like a punch to the gut, cold and unforgiving.
Fear.
Nervousness of fucking it up.
Because what if it wasn’t good enough?
What if they did it and Tatum decided she didn’t really like her anymore afterwards?
Would thinking about how crushed she would be if that were to happen appear melodramatic? Perhaps.
The kiss ended abruptly.
“Are you alright?” She heard Tatum’s voice, slightly hoarse and breathless before she even opened her eyes. “You kinda… Stopped kissing back.”
Oh, shoot.
“Am I going too fast? Did I do something you didn’t like?”
Leighton’s heart did somersaults.
“No, no.” She reassured her, perhaps a bit too quickly. “It’s just…”
Tatum tilted her head to the side, her eyes burning into Leighton’s with nothing but patience and care.
Words weren’t Leighton’s forte (no matter how much her dad tried to convince her that they were), but fuck, if she could, she would write long and complicated essays about Tatum’s eyes.
(Ew. She needed to get a fucking grip).
“You are a really good kisser.”
Tatum looked confused for exactly a second before her entire face lit up.
“And… That’s a bad thing?”
“Oh no. Not at all… But… I might feel a little… Nervous about how good you are.”
It was weird being this vulnerable so soon. Leighton didn’t even talk about these sorts of insecurities with her roommates, who at this point were probably the closest friend group she had had in her entire life, which made just how open she always was with Tatum extremely scary.
She felt her cheeks burn as she waited for Tatum to say… anything.
She looked at her closely, tried to pick up on any microreaction that could tell her what was going through her head, if she found Leighton’s confession absolutely ridiculous or if she was regretting bringing her on a second date at all.
Ugh.
How exasperating.
She had never felt this sort of nervousness around anybody. And she had met Lady Gaga before.
“Please say something.” It came out small, so much so, it almost got drowned by the sound of the ocean waves rocking them back and forth.
Tatum licked her lips before both her hands grabbed Leighton by the cheeks, her mouth closing around hers, fast, almost desperately. Like she wanted to consume all of Leighton in a single kiss.
(Leighton would let her).
“God, you’re so stinking adorable,” Tatum muttered as her lips descended towards her chin: “I want to eat you up.”
“Shit.”
Tatum’s kisses turned to gentle nibbles, then slow and tortuous licks on the side of her neck, until they finally culminated in a bite that made Leighton arch her back, both of her hands grasping onto Tatum’s hair.
“We can stop if you want,” Tatum said, somewhere lost between the skin of Leighton’s collarbone.
Leighton whined: “You just deep fried all my self consciousness into nothing. Don’t you dare fucking stop.”
“For what it’s worth,” she said as she started unbuttoning Leighton’s sweater. “You’re also a very good kisser. Give yourself more credit.”
And if Tatum said so, then Leighton would.
Her sweater came off after just a bit of struggling, leaving her in the small black blouse she had picked for the day and her skirt (which would have to go straight to the dry cleaner’s because it was already much too wrinkled for her liking), and even though she wasn’t anywhere near close to naked, the way Tatum’s eyes roamed over her figure made her feel she might as well have been.
She looked… Hungry .
Like she would lose all inhibition in the blink of an eye, and Leighton wondered how anyone had ever survived being on the same bed as Tatum, because by the looks of it, she wasn’t going to make it out alive after tonight.
Worst part was, she was more than okay with it.
“You are so fucking hot,” she heard it whispered in her ear before Tatum’s lips captured hers again. Her tongue caressing her lower lip to get her to open her mouth.
Leighton wasn’t sure if the moan that then echoed around the small room had been due to the feeling of their tongues momentarily finding each other, or if it was because Tatum had straddled her, both of her thighs suddenly closing around hers.
A shiver went through her.
“Oh my God…” She felt herself groaning, breaking apart to try and regain some of her brain activity as Tatum raised from where she was laying on top of her, to sit on her hips. Leighton felt the urge to buck them against the new found pressure but she bit the inside of her cheek instead, suddenly more interested in the way Tatum toyed with the edge of her camisole.
She instinctively licked her lips.
Tatum smiled. The warmness of the lightbulb behind her head forming a halo around her blonde hair.
“Do you want me to take it off?” She asked like she already knew the answer, but Leighton nodded regardless. “Nuh uh… I’m going to need to hear you say it.”
Oh, how humiliating.
(And how… Hot ).
Leighton took a deep breath, her hands climbing from Tatum’s knees to the inside of her thighs. She needed to touch her, to feel her, to have her.
She needed to have her. So . Bad .
“Plea—”
Buzz.
Buzz. Buzz.
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
“Is… That your phone?”
A pregnant pause.
Leighton could see the inner dilemma forming inside of Tatum’s head as the vibration continued, filling the suddenly uncomfortable silence.
Maybe if she didn’t pick up, it would stop. Or at least that was what Leighton hoped for.
Because, who in their right mind called past midnight?
Buzz.
Buzz. Buzz.
“Fuck, dammit,” Tatum rolled her eyes. “I’m sorry, I don’t know who this could be. It’ll take me a minute.”
Leighton patted her thigh softly, trying to show her it was alright.
Slowly, almost as if it pained her to do so, Tatum got off her, sitting down on the edge of the bed as she took her phone out of the pocket of her skirt. She looked at the contact name on the screen with a glare, but picked up after a beat regardless. The silence was eerie, and Leighton tried her best not to pry on what was happening on the other end of the line, given that Tatum did nothing but mutter ‘yes’, ‘no’, and a final ‘fine’ before hanging up.
When she looked back at her, the annoyance remained, but something else tinted her eyes. Maybe guilt, maybe worry too.
“They think one of the girls on the tennis team got roofied at a party at Sigma.”
“Holy crap,” Leighton stood up so quickly she felt slightly dizzy once she was sat. “Is she alright? Is someone with her?”
“Yes, Kate and Aileen are there but they can’t move her out the frat house and they need to get her to the infirmary.” Tatum sighed. “I’m the only one on the team who has a car.”
“Ah…”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t…”
“Are you kidding?” Leighton quickly grabbed her hand, squeezing it softly, urging Tatum to look at her. “This isn’t something that you should even have to apologize for. It’s okay. If we go now, we’ll make it back to campus soon enough, right?”
There was something left unsaid as Tatum closed the gap between them to leave a small kiss on the corner of Leighton’s mouth, but Leighton didn’t care to ask what it was. She felt too comfortable to let her overthinking get the best of her, so instead, she followed Tatum to the deck. Sat on the chairs that had been rearranged on the cockpit and waited as Tatum explained the situation to the captain, who then took them back to the docks.
At some point, minutes before they arrived at shore, Tatum linked their fingers together and when Leighton looked back at her, she found Tatum staring upwards instead. The full moon was at its highest point, illuminating the otherwise dark path that they were following with its majestic light.
Leighton smiled to herself as she looked up as well.
Tatum:
Got back to my dorm safe
Jane is also okay. Kate stayed with her, the nurse told us it wasn’t drugs
Most likely a combination of the bad alcohol and the antibiotics she has been taking for the past week
I’m sorry I had to cut our date short
You:
I’m glad to hear that!
And it’s okay, really.
Tatum:
Oh wow
I didn’t expect you to write back
It’s pretty late already
You:
Yeah… I know.
I couldn’t sleep.
Tatum:
Hm…
Why’s that?
You:
Something’s on my mind…
Tatum:
Oh yeah?
Care to share?
You:
Perhaps…
What will I get out of it if I do?
Tatum:
(1) Picture
Did I tell you I bought a new lingerie set from Victoria Secret’s?
You:
Fuck.
I can’t stop thinking about you.
3.
“Hey,” Leighton opened the door to dorm 103 with a smile.
“Hey you.”
During the last four days, Bela, Kimberly and Whitney had helped her plan her third date with Tatum. She hadn’t asked nor wanted their help initially, but after realizing that she was still very much new to the ‘serious dating’ scene and that she had no idea of what she could do, especially after Tatum’s impressive display, she knew she needed all the help that she could get.
She had wanted something completely different at first—a nice dinner at an expensive restaurant, maybe going mini golfing on that exclusive club at the outskirts of campus, hell, she would’ve hired a private helicopter to finish it all off with a bang, but then Whitney had said “why don’t you just… Ask her over and spend a night watching movies and talking? Just the two of you. No pretenses. Leave the rich girl bullshit for later, Tatum already knows what that’s like.”
And she had cackled at the absurdity of it all.
But then she had thought about it long and hard, and it didn’t sound completely awful.
Kimberly had helped clean the living room while Bela cleaned her own side of the room, because really, the amount of dirty panties that Leighton had almost fallen over was ridiculous. In the meantime, Whitney had gone with her to buy cheeses and meats to concoct the perfect charcuterie board, along with Tatum’s favorite red wine.
Tatum’s favorite movie was Persona, which Leighton had never watched before, (cult artsy movies weren’t really her thing—she hadn’t thought it’d be Tatum’s thing either, but knowing about it added to the already growing excitement of how much she wanted to get to know her better).
At five forty five, everything was set. The pullout couch was ready, with several of her Brunello Cucinelli blankets. Kimberly had lit some of her cherry scented candles, which smelled surprisingly good, and Bela had emptied the fridge of the month’s old chinese takeout rotting in the fridge.
The snacks were ready, so were the glasses of wine and the movie was already downloaded in her Macbook.
Hopefully, luck would be on their side that night.
“It smells really good in here,” Tatum pecked her on the lips before going past the door and into the living room. “God, I do not miss the freshman’s dorms. They are so poorly distributed.”
Leighton chuckled: “So, it really does get better after the first year? I wanted to upgrade to a queen size at the beginning of the semester and they wouldn’t let me.”
“Oh yeah, the twin beds suck, but it could’ve been worse. You could’ve gotten a single suite with bunk beds.”
Leighton scrunched up her nose in disgust, which earned her another kiss.
“Are… Your roommates home?” Tatum took off her jacket, leaving it hanging on the small coat rack by the door. “You didn’t kill them just to get the place to yourself, right?”
Leighton couldn’t help but laugh. Immediately wrapping her arms around Tatum’s waist once she was done smoothing down her skirt.
“Kim is over at her beefcake’s room and will probably spend the night there. Whitney is working late on her biochem homework, so if she does get home it’ll be late and straight into her room… And Bela,” she guiltily bit her lower lip. “I did bribe her to stay away for the night, but believe me, it’s for the best.”
Tatum raised her eyebrows playfully, her own arms finding their way around Leighton’s neck, running her fingernails idly through the skin she had at hand.
“How much am I worth paying for?”
“Telling you that wouldn’t be very ladylike.”
Tatum smirked, eyes twinkling in mischief.
“Maybe I don’t want you to be such a gentle-woman, tonight.”
“Oh no?”
“Hmm…”
As Tatum closed the distance between them to kiss her slowly, Leighton thought to herself that there was no way she was ever going to get tired of the feeling of Tatum’s lips against hers, of the softness of her skin under her fingertips, of the way her stomach tensed at having her so close.
It was all so new, yet so familiar already and Leighton didn’t care what anyone would think about her rapidly growing feelings (because if she wasn’t saying them out loud then they didn’t actually count, right?)
Tatum bit her lower lip, pulling on it slightly to get her to open her mouth, and as she felt her tongue lick its way into a deeper kiss, she squeezed Tatum’s hips, forcing her to take a step back.
“I would love nothing more than to make out with you all night, but I did buy very expensive manchego and brie for our date and I refuse to let it all go to waste because then Kimberly will put in on a ham and egg sandwich.”
Tatum scrunched up her nose in disgust: “She… Willingly eats egg sandwiches?”
“Oh yeah. Like twice a week.”
“Oh my God.”
Leighton cackled: “That was my exact face the first time I saw her eating one!”

I’m blocking your number.
Leighton had promised herself, as someone who very deeply cared about her personal space and boundaries being respected, that no matter what the situation were, she would always wait to be in her bed to have sex.
Always .
No matter what.
Of course, she had not foreseen Tatum straddling her in the living room’s couch, skirt bunched up around her hips, grinding swiftly against her as Leighton licked her collarbone, desperate to get more skin to show—which was effectively making it very hard for her to keep her promise.
“God, you’re so hot.” She whispered as her hands, which up until then had been grabbing onto Tatum’s hips, climbed their way upwards, pulling Tatum’s shirt out of the neat tuck inside her skirt. “I want to make you come so hard.”
Tatum moaned, lifting up her arms to help Leighton discard her shirt.
“Fuck, you’re brazen.” Her voice sounded hoarse, like she had been talking for hours, even though she had spent the majority of the time silent while they watched the movie. “I did wear cute underwear tonight for a reason, though.”
Leighton was so glad she had.
Again… She had seen many girls in different states of undress before. She had seen expensive bras, cheap bras, cute lingerie, boring Calvin Klein underwear, bralettes, no bras, basically all of it during what Bela had called: ‘her hoe era’ (Leighton would never admit to calling it that herself because Bela would become insufferable if she ever did, but it did ring true), and not once had she felt the sudden rush of adrenaline and excitement that seeing Tatum in a black lacy bra made run through her veins.
Like… Holy shit.
She had worn that just for her.
“Are you going to do anything anytime soon or are you just gonna gawk at me for the rest of the night?”
Leighton tore her eyes away from Tatum’s cleavage, her cheeks red and her heart beating fast.
“You’re gorgeous.”
Tatum’s knowing smirk softened. It was like all of her confidence and exuberance had suddenly faltered, a glimpse of mellowness coloring her features.
Her hands grabbed Tatum by the inside of her thighs, suddenly laying her down on the couch as she climbed on top of her, her mouth all over her in a second—she kissed everywhere she could, from the top of Tatum’s hair, to her nose and mouth, and kept going down, past her clavicles and her chest. She bit on the outline of her ribs, eliciting a cute giggle from Tatum.
She was all curves and defined muscles, and fuck, it was driving Leighton insane.
She wanted, desperately, to make this last. She wanted to take her time with Tatum, and yet, as her lips continued trailing down her body, she felt herself getting impatient, like the arousal was urging her to forget all she knew about foreplay.
Once her lips brushed against the edge of Tatum’s skirt, she searched for Tatum’s eyes, asking a silent question.
“Yes.” She heard as Tatum bucked her hips. “Yes, yes.”
Leighton licked her lips: “And I was the brazen one?”
“God, you’re insufferable.”
“Are you really going to insult me when I’m the one in control here?” She raised an eyebrow teasingly, barely controlling herself not to purr when Tatum’s hands tangled themselves in her hair. “That doesn’t seem like the greatest idea on your part.”
Tatum smiled, but not in her usual sexy or lovely way—this was more forced, as if sarcasm was being held back from spilling out her lips.
(Leighton found it so hot).
“Who says you’re the one in control?”
Leighton opened her mouth in an attempt to refute the statement because, given the position they were in, then… Duh . It was obvious she was the one calling the shots, but her words got cut off by a loud moan as Tatum’s fingers closed around a bunch of her hair, pushing her demandingly towards the apex of her thighs.
“Oh, fuck.” She groaned as she took in the sight before her.
It should be illegal just how good Tatum made black lingerie look.
“Do. Something.” Tatum grunted, barely containing the desperation in her voice, legs spreading wider, hips still bucking against thin air.
Leighton smiled to herself. It was pretty clear Tatum wasn’t calling the shots… She was just a brat.
“Nobody ever taught you manners, babe?”
Tatum arched her back in frustration.
“Leighton, I swear to God…”
She chuckled, enjoying the goosebumps that raised on Tatum’s skin as her hot breath ghosted over her thighs.
Leighton could’ve continued messing with her, because fuck was it thrilling to have Tatum all hot and bothered under her, but… Who was she kidding? She couldn’t wait another second to taste her.
Two of her fingers on each side grabbed the edge of Tatum’s lacy underwear, and careful, as if she was unwrapping a precious gift, she started to slide the garment down her legs.
She followed the trajectory with her eyes, the wanting bubbling up inside her chest with a rapid growing need, and just as she was lifting one of Tatum’s ankles off the couch to properly remove the article of clothing, both of them heard it… Loud, doom impending on their otherwise perfect evening.
Screams of “fire, fire!” Getting progressively more agitated as they ran down the hallway.
And then… The fire alarm.
“Get out! Everybody out!”
Leighton’s jaw tightened.
“Is… Your building on fire?!”
Leighton forced herself to stand up, clearly disgruntled about the whole ordeal, but offering her hand to Tatum to help her stand anyway.
“It fucking better be.”
It was past midnight by the time everyone in Leighton’s dorm had gotten out of the building. Students all gathered around in the lawn out front, some of them barely awake, others much too awake. There were students with laptops and books in their hands because “they were not going to leave their midterm essays behind no matter the emergency”, there were some others who had been clearly interrupted in what Leighton referred to as “solitary cry”. She could spot Jocelyn holding the phone to her face and then panning around which meant she was most likely recording a Tiktok, Travis was also there, talking with someone who she didn’t recognize but that looked already over their conversation. Kimberly was next to Jackson, his entirely too big of an arm wrapped around her shoulders, and as soon as she saw them, she excused herself to make her way towards them both.
“Are you alright?” She asked, genuinely concerned, barely taking in Leighton’s angry expression.
“What the fuck happened?” She said before she could even fathom it was leaving her mouth.
Tatum rolled her eyes, a smile on her face as she started rubbing her thumb against the side of Leighton’s hand.
“We’re okay. Kimberly, right?”
“Yes!” She was much too excited for Leighton’s liking. “Has Leighton told you about us? She has told us so much about you! My dad used to play tennis with his high school buddies until a ball hit him in the head once and he had to stay in the hospital for two days over a concussion.”
Leighton cringed: “Kimberly…”
“Oh right, no embarrassing parents stories. I’m sorry. Did your date get interrupted?”
Thinking about the fact that their date had very much been interrupted indeed only got her blood to boil, her eyebrows and nose scrunching up as she bit the inside of her cheek—Kimberly wasn’t responsible for the apparent fire that had messed their night up, Leighton had to remind herself to be nice when Kimberly had been nothing but that.
“Unfortunately,” Tatum seemed to be better at masking her anger, which also meant she had been the one to take control of the conversation.
“I’m so sorry to hear that! Hopefully this won’t take too long and you’ll be able to get back to it soon.”
Sadly, Kimberly’s good wishes didn’t come true.
It took an hour and forty five minutes for the fire department to extinguish the burnt microwave in the common room. According to Frude, someone had put an aluminum wrapped potato to reheat and the microwave had exploded—which peeled off the electrical wire that then made the carpet set on fire, so apparently most of the room was now burned down.
By the time they had returned to Leighton’s room, Tatum was already struggling to stay awake, shivering beneath her thin jacket, which didn’t really help in maintaining body heat. Kimberly had gone back to Jackson’s and Whitney was still nowhere to be found, which meant they still had the room to themselves, however, Leighton felt as though the moment was not entirely appropriate to pick up where they had left it.
“I’m… So sorry,” Leighton sighed as she threw her own coat on the couch, much too defeated to even feel angry anymore.
Tatum smiled at her, wrapping her arms around her in a hug that Leighton hadn’t realized how much she needed.
She breathed her in, squeezing her waist to try and bring her even closer.
“Stay?” Leighton asked, though it felt more like a plea. “My bed may not be big enough for the both of us, but I’m sure we can make it work.”
She felt Tatum’s grin next to her cheek, where she was still embracing her.
“I didn’t bring pajamas, I’m afraid.”
“Oh, you’re not sleeping naked?” And although it was a lighthearted joke, she still felt a rush of adrenaline course through her at the prospect of having Tatum naked next to her.
“Nice try,” she said, breaking slightly away to be able to look at her. “But I get cold easily, so it will not be your lucky night tonight.”
“If you decide to stay, it’ll be my lucky night, regardless of what you’re wearing.”
Tatum rolled her eyes, and yes, Leighton admitted it was cheesy and entirely too soon to say for a third date, but she wasn’t lying either.
“Fine, but no cotton pajama bottoms, I don’t sleep well in them.”
They brushed their teeth side by side, Tatum looking around them as they did. Apparently last time she had used the campus’ bathrooms was back during her first year, and the prospect of getting a foot fungus through the slippers that Leighton had given her to borrow was keeping her on edge. Thankfully, once they were under the covers, Tatum’s leg draped over Leighton’s, and both of her arms around her torso to keep her in place against the mattress, all was forgotten.
It was weird having someone else in her bed, Leighton had to admit.
She didn’t let girls stay over. Mostly because she was afraid Bela was going to quiz them on something ridiculous that could be borderline offensive, but mostly because she appreciated having her own space—however, sharing with Tatum felt… Different.
Entirely too nice for something as new as their ‘relationship’ was.
Leighton found herself comfortable under her weight. She didn’t mind her breath against her collarbone, or the way Tatum mumbled incoherencies in her sleep, kicking slightly under the covers every once in a while.
She enjoyed the feeling of Tatum’s hands around her, keeping her in place, as if she needed Leighton to be there to continue to be asleep.
It was new, it was nerve wracking.
But, as morning crept onto both, Leighton realized it was also the best sleep she had gotten in…
Maybe forever.
She woke up to the sounds of her roommates in the living room. They were whispering, so Leighton couldn’t really make out everything they were saying, but she was pretty sure that they were all debating on whether to knock or not, unsure if Tatum had stayed over.
Leighton smiled when she saw her, still on top of her, completely relaxed against her chest but now with barely open eyes, sleep clinging onto her eyelashes as she looked at her.
“What’s wrong?” Her voice sounded small and Leighton’s smile only got bigger at hearing her.
“My roommates are here.”
“Do you not want them to see me here?”
Leighton shook her head as fast as she could without moving too much. She was so warm, she didn’t plan on getting up anytime soon, no matter who or what happened out there.
“No, I don’t care. They will be insufferable once we do go out, though.”
Tatum attempted to roll her eyes, but given that she was still more asleep than awake, it ended up in her eyes shutting again.
She breathed Leighton in, left a small kiss on the top of her left breast and then stretched to grab her cellphone on top of Leighton’s small bureau.
“Are your roommates allergic to anything?”
“I think Kim is allergic to walnuts, but besides that, no. Why?”
“I’m going to Postmates something for them to have for breakfast, that way we can sleep for at least another hour and then I’ll be able to deal with the invasive questions that they want to ask when I eventually get out of your room, is that okay?”
She didn’t even wait for Leighton’s answer.
It was kind of impressive just how functional Tatum was, while one of her eyes was closed, but Leighton decided to say nothing and instead, ran her fingers through her blonde hair, looking sideways at the order that kept growing bigger.
“They don’t eat all that much, you know?” She eventually said when the item list went up to twelve.
“Excuse me, I’m also ordering something for us, I’ll be starving once we wake up.”
“Fair enough.”
“Uhh… Did any of you order anything from La Maison du Pain?” Whitney opened the door wider to allow Bela and Kimberly to see the delivery man who stood outside, two big bags of brown paper barely fitting on his skinny arms.
“Are you fucking kidding me? Their baguettes are twenty bucks. If my dad sees me spending that much money on bread he’ll cancel my credit card.” Bela interjected, then immediately looked over at Kimberly: “Did you do this?”
Kimberly raised her eyebrows.
“I didn’t want to be rude and assume!” Bela was quick to say.
“Sorry dude,” Whitney grabbed the doorknob, ready to close the door after what she assumed had been an honest mistake. It was 8am on a Sunday. Nobody should be working that early. “You got the wrong dorm.”
“Is this Room 103?” The poor delivery guy asked, dancing from one foot to the other to avoid dropping the bags. He was the scrawniest guy Whitney had seen since elementary school, holy shit.
At realizing he was still waiting for an answer and had gotten none, Whitney smiled apologetically, nodding as quick as she could.
Before she could understand what was going on, the little guy passed the two bags onto her: “Then it’s right.”
Thankfully, Kim had caught on, and she immediately stood up, carrying both bags towards their center table.
“Here are your drinks too,” the delivery guy said, before passing Whitney a tray that up until that moment had gone unnoticed on the floor, next to him. “Have a good day.” And before Whitney could even say thanks, or wonder what the hell had just happened, he disappeared down the corridor.
“Okay, seriously,” Kim said once the door was closed. “I don’t think this is ours, what do we do? Isn’t this technically stealing?”
“Nope,” Bela had been faster than both and she was now holding the receipt that had been stapled to one of the brown bags. After a comically loud cough, she started reading: “‘For the girls in dorm room 103, Tatum.’ Holy hell, she bought us eclairs and macarons and shit.”
“She got us breakfast?” Whitney snatched the receipt from Bela’s hand. “Coconut chai latte with caramel drizzle… Holy fuck—forty eight dollars?!”
“Dibs on that one!” Bela all but screamed.
“You know, we don’t have bread this fancy back home,” Kimberly was already sorting through one of the paper bags, deciding on what to pick. “My mom thinks Twinkies are a delicacy.”
“Oh my God,” Whitney had grabbed one of the cups on the plastic tray. She wasn’t sure what she was drinking but boy, it tasted good. “This is probably the best thing I’ve ever had.”
“Leighton better be giving that woman all the orgasms she deserves,” Bela moaned as she chewed on a red velvet cookie: “Hell if she isn’t, I’ll do it myself.”
“You know what? Me too.”
Kimberly would’ve said “me three”, had she not been too busy licking the dark chocolate and cream cheese concoction from the inside of a scone.

We’re on our way.
4.
After everything that had happened in the past couple of days, Leighton wasn’t sure about much, but one thing: Things never went as planned.
Which, in retrospect, should have been an indication to the fact that, even though Tatum and her had tried to have sex in two different occasions, (both times in very appropriate and rom-com material scenarios), it was clear that they way it was going to happen for them was going to be less of a romanticized and idealistic dream, and more like… The moment being right.
Bela had told her about twenty minutes after she had gotten to the party: “Hey, you’ll get the room to yourself tonight, in case you want Tatum to spend the night.” Apparently Priya was staying at a nice apartment just a couple of blocks off campus, and as the party started to die down, because of Frude’s noise complaint, most people were moving over there to continue for the rest of the night.
And really, Leighton hadn’t told Tatum that they’d have the room for the night to try and ignite any sort of reaction, because some people were still there, sitting on their living room couch, kinda drunk and kinda sad and Kimberly had returned to the room, even though she had spent majority of the time over at Jackson’s next door, and Whitney was most definitely not leaving. So, honest to God, Leighton hadn’t been planning this.
But, the moment they got to the room and Leighton closed the door behind them, it was unavoidable.
A sort of magnetic force, much stronger than both of them, made them collapse into one another. Hands reaching for faces and hair and necks and downwards. Lips moving in eerie synchrony as Tatum tried to get closer to her, whining and breathing heavily against Leighton’s lips.
‘There’s people outside,’ Leighton thought to herself, trying to be rational as to why fucking on the single bed on her room while a sort of party (now more like a chill get together) wasn’t the best idea, but then Tatum licked into her mouth and her own hand slid down Tatum’s back until it grabbed her ass and, fuck it, why should she wait?
She had waited long enough.
She had been scared and insecure of not being good enough, or of not fulfilling expectations, but, as Tatum pushed her against the door, avoiding her kisses, just to watch her squirm, Leighton realized that the absolute lust clouding her judgment was louder and stronger than her insecurities.
Tatum’s zipper went from the top of her shoulder blades to the apex of her thighs, and Leighton had never—ever—worked as fast to get someone naked as she had done with Tatum.
Everything after that went by in a blur.
Tatum had kissed her against the door until her legs had been too weak to properly stand, so she had laid her down in bed, pulling rather forcefully on everything that covered her body.
She had climbed on top of her, already undoing her bra, and this time, Leighton didn’t feel too shy to properly stare. She looked at her, from the curve of her hip to her chest. She had sat up on the bed, both of her hands quickly grabbing Tatum by the waist to keep her steady as her mouth closed around a nipple, and fuck… The moan that echoed through the room.
She wanted to hear that noise again and again and again.
Until it drowned out the music behind the door.
Hell, Leighton didn’t even care if anybody heard.
The desperation was palpable.
The way Tatum was grinding against her thigh, the way she kissed her, all tongue and teeth and whined whenever Leighton had to break apart to breathe in. She could feel her hands all over her, caressing whatever she could reach, scratching down her back, holding tight onto her shoulders and Leighton wasn’t sure what she found most attractive, the sudden neediness of someone who was usually so composed, or the way her eyes rolled to the back of her head, cheeks flushed and neck slightly sweaty as she rocked harder against her.
“God, I’m so turned on…” Tatum panted as her hips kept her rhythm as steady as her frustration allowed her to: “I could come like this.”
Now it was Leighton’s time to moan.
“Don’t, please…” She begged just as one of her hands played with the elastic of Tatum’s underwear. “I want to…”
She swallowed the sudden lump in her throat.
Tatum’s eyes bore directly into hers, and without skipping a beat, not even blinking, her fingers wrapped around Leighton’s wrist, pushing her hand further down, past the fabric and into the warmth between her thighs.
It was as if all air got knocked out her lungs, and then back in again.
“ Fuck . You’re so wet.”
And Tatum had the nerve to giggle. All cute, melodic and soft. As if she wasn’t currently starting to fuck herself against Leighton’s fingers.
“And you…” She was breathless, holding onto Leighton’s shoulders for support: “Are so fucking good at that.”
Leighton kissed her hard. Tasting the red wine and chocolate from dinner, the bad tequila and lime from the shots Bela had insisted they take, the vanilla lip gloss she wore, and beyond that, she just tasted Tatum.
Warm and pliant and so unbelievably gorgeous Tatum, and Leighton thought to herself that she could very easily get used to this— to her.
All of her.
The music stopped at some point after Tatum’s second orgasm and Leighton’s first. In the background Leighton faintly heard Whitney and Kimberly whispering, then closing the door to their room.
She wanted to say something to Tatum about maybe keeping it down, since her roommates were most likely going to try and sleep, but when Tatum’s fingers pressed between her thighs, she decided Whitney and Kimberly would survive.
“Please,” she whined, both of her hands wrapping around Tatum’s neck: “Don’t fucking stop.”
Kimberly’s alarm went off much too early for Leighton’s liking, especially for a Sunday after a night of mind blowing sex.
She wasn’t sure if she had a shift to cover at Sips or if she had simply forgotten to turn it off for the weekend, but regardless, as the loud beeping surrounded the dorm, Leighton stirred, careful not to move too much to wake Tatum up, who didn’t seem bothered by the noise at all.
The blinds were closed, so she wasn’t too sure whether or not the sun had come out yet. Lazily, she reached for her phone to try and check the hour. There were five notifications: Three of them from her dad, telling her how proud he was of her, that he was most likely going to tell her mother about it once he was back home and that he had gotten into his hotel room without any issue. She made a mental reminder to answer later, when her body wasn’t aching.
The other two…
For a quick second, she panicked.
Nervousness and discomfort settled at the pit of her stomach, quickly turning into a swirl of confusion that threatened to make her dizzy, even while laying down: Why was Alicia texting her? More importantly… Why was she texting that she missed her when for the past six months she had been nothing but silent?
Leighton wasn’t sure whether she felt angry or… Maybe even happy that she had contacted her.
She supposed no one ever had a clear answer as to what to feel when an ex texted you out of the blue.
She opened the conversation. Read the messages once, twice, thrice, until the sudden rush of emotions settled into… Nothing.
As if the spontaneous chaos had brought within it an uncomfortable sense of peace that Leighton couldn’t begin to understand.
She frowned.
She tried to search for the same anxiety and inconvenience that had claimed her not five seconds ago, but it was gone.
“What time is it?” Tatum’s muffled voice broke her out of the loop. She hadn’t turned around from where she was facing the wall, both hands fisting the duvet. “Please tell me it’s not morning.”
Leighton took it to her advantage how Tatum wasn’t staring at her, and instead of answering right away, she looked at her silhouette: The muscles of her back completely relaxed against her mattress, the tan lines on her shoulders contrasting against her white sheets, the curve of her waist, the straight line of her spine. There was something so intoxicating in knowing that she had had all of her just a few hours before.
That her lips had traveled down her back, attempting to memorize every single part of her: Every spot, every crevice, every line.
She remembered the way Tatum had smiled at her: “There’s no rush. We still have so much time.”
And suddenly, Alicia didn’t seem so important.
Not anymore, anyway.
“It’s five am,” she whispered just as she locked her phone to put it right where she had left it the night before. She wrapped an arm around Tatum’s waist, resting her hand on the softness of her stomach. “You smell good.”
She could feel Tatum’s smirk: “I smell like you.”
“Yeah… Maybe that’s why.”
Perhaps, Tatum had scoffed. Perhaps she hadn’t.
Leighton really didn’t care about it once Tatum snuggled closer to her. Her hand intertwined with Leighton’s, not before kissing on her knuckles.
She sighed, contented.
She could get used to this.
