Chapter 1: Planning

Chapter Text

The lacking five received a text message from director Ju Jeon early in the morning, instructing them to report to his office for lunch. Because the director knows their schedule, he knows he won't bother them too much because they only have outpatient appointments and their surgeries are all in the afternoon.

Quarter to one, the lacking five were already seated in the director’s office.

“Are you busy for this day or perhaps in a rush?” The director asked them.

“No director.” The lacking five answers in unison.

“Okay, I will just keep this short. As you all know we will have a year-end party this upcoming December 25 and all of the staff here know that you have a band so I will ask if you want to sing at least two songs, you can choose what song you want.” Director said as he stands up. “Don’t worry I’ll try to clear your afternoon schedules on that day.” He added.

“I’m okay with-it director.” Ikjun said. “How about you guys?” Ikjun added as he looks at his friends who were just beside him.

“Can we think about it first director? You’ll have the answer tomorrow morning.” Songhwa replied and smiled.

“Yes sure, don’t feel pressured about it, if you don’t want then I’m not pushing you.” Director replied and smiled at them.

“Thank you, director.” Songhwa said with her usual smile.

The three were in silence, mainly Jeongwon, Seokhyeong, and Junwan.

Jeongwon thought it was a good idea but he wanted the opinions of the others first as he thought it was a good plan if the others were also on board especially since they were performing as a team.

“You can all go now, there’s still time for lunch.” Director said as he got back to his seat.

“We’ll go now director.” Junwan said as he stands up and opened the door for their friends being the closest to the door.

After they got out of the director’s office, they went straight to Songhwa’s office as their lunch was there.

“Yah what is wrong with you guys? Don’t you want to do it?” Ikjun said immediately as soon as he sat down on the yellow chair.

“Will there be a lot of people?” Seokhyeong asked as he does not want a spotlight and was kind of afraid of a lot of people. Back in college, he was known as the Grand Slammer because he was a shut-in, a sociophobe who lived in solitude, and a coward. That tendency hasn't changed much, as he still avoids locations with large crowds. For example, in the elevator, he prefers the elevator that the janitor uses or just takes the stairs, where he won't run into many people.

“Of course, it’s a party what do you expect?” Junwan said while munching on the second kimbap he was holding.

“Andrea you’re in, right? I know you’re in.” Ikjun confidently said while pointing his chopstick over him.

“I think it’s not a bad idea guys, we’re much better than before don’t you think?” Jeongwon said while looking at his friends eating.

“I think I will just freeze in front of the people.” Seokhyeong worriedly said.

“Don’t worry our little gom, you can do it, just think or look at Minha through the entire song,” Ikjun replied which earned a blush from Seokhyeong.

“Okay I’m in just pick a lively song but at the same time an easy one, I don’t want to mess up.” Junwan said as he butted into their conversation.

“Arasseo, good thinking.” Ikjun replied. “How about you, jagiya?” He asked as he looks at the woman beside him munching the kimbap.

Songwha stopped eating as Ikjun looks at her and asks, she thinks about it for a few seconds and then came up with a decision. “Hmmm okay I’m in, though I suggest that we should only just perform two songs like the director suggested since we don’t have much time to practice, I have back-to-back surgeries next week,” Songhwa said as she munched again on her kimbap. “Seokhyeong-ah let’s do it; we know you can do it.” She added when she stopped chewing the food in her mouth.

“Arasseo.” Seokhyeong quietly said.

“I have time later; I’ll stop at the director’s office to inform him,” Ikjun said, earning a nod from his friends.

They left Songhwa's room one by one until Songhwa and Ikjun were the only ones remaining. Ikjun was sitting on the couch when he decided to go over to Songhwa, who was in front of the monitor, looking over the interns' papers, and clearly, her girlfriend was not paying attention to him.

“Jagiya, don’t you want to cuddle with me?” Ikjun said to catch her attention.

“Wait Ikjun-ah I’m almost finished.” Songhwa said, still not breaking her eye in the monitor.

Ikjun cannot wait, he holds Songhwa’s swivel chair and then turns it to face him. Ikjun cupped her face and then kissed her slowly and passionately. On the other hand, Songhwa was shocked but then slowly reciprocates Ikjun’s kisses.

After Ikjun was satisfied he let go of her lips, and they were both panting as they finished.

“Yah, I told you to wait,” Songhwa said with a shy smile appearing on her face as he punched Ikjun’s shoulder lightly.

“I know you also want it jagiya.” Ikjun replied as he smiled naughtily and winks at her. “I’ll go to the director’s office now and then outpatients after, see you later jagiya,” Ikjun added as he kissed Songhwa’s forehead.

“Arasseo saranghae.” Songhwa replied.

“Nado saranghae Songhwa-ya.” Ikjun replied as he went out of Songhwa’s office.

After a few minutes of walking, Ikjun reached the director’s office and knocked three times.

“Come in,” Director said. Then Ikjun entered.

“Oh, what brings you here Dr. Lee?” Director asked as he stopped signing the paper in front of him and then look up at the person who had just entered his office.

“I just came to say director that we’ve decided to do it,” Ikjun said as he smile while standing in front of the director’s desk.

“Really? Thank you.” Director said as he smiled.

“We have decided to just perform two songs as we don’t have much time to practice, I hope you understand,” Ikjun replied as he slightly bowed his head.

“It’s okay don’t worry about it, I’m just glad that you’ve taken this offer,” Director replied and smiled.

“And if you have time director, I want to talk about something,” Ikjun said which makes the man in front of him confused.

“What is it? Take a seat first.” Director replied as he pointed out the seat.

“Can we perform at the end of the party?” Ikjun asked.

“Yes, sure no worries but can I ask why?” Director asked curiously.

“You know what’s my relationship with Songhwa right, director?” Ikjun asked.

“Yes of course, but what about it?” Director asked again.

“I would like to propose to her at the end of our performance director, only if you allowed me to do it at the party,” Ikjun said.

“Wow this is a piece of big news, well it’s okay for me if you need help you can talk to the organizer,” Director said as he gives the number of the organizer to him.

“Thank you, director, then I’ll go now,” Ikjun said.

“No problem,” Director replied as he went back to signing and reading the papers he was doing a while ago.

Ikjun exited the director’s office with a huge grin plastered on his face. “Now I just have to get the permission of the boys, Uju, and of course, Songhwa’s parents,” Ikjun said to himself.

Ikjun had been thinking about proposing to Songhwa frequently, and had even purchased a ring when Songhwa was summoned in an emergency on one of the weekends; he was simply waiting for the right moment. Their schedule was tight in December, so he considered proposing in January, but after the director offered them the opportunity to perform at their year-end celebration, he decided it was a wonderful moment to propose.

He recalls being ecstatic and enthusiastic while selecting the perfect ring for her. He originally chose a plain silver-colored ring with a somewhat oval-cut large diamond in the middle, but as he looked around further to expand his selection, one band caught his attention, and he assured himself that this was the right ring. It was a silver ring with an infinity symbol surrounded by tiny diamonds and a circular cut-shaped diamond in the middle. He obviously doesn't care about the price and just purchased it; it was for his girlfriend, so why bother looking at it?
