Show Me Where It Hurts

Summary:

Wednesday can't get rid of the horrible moment infecting her dreams. Enid helps her get over it.

Notes:

My first Wednesday fic, hope you like it :). With many similarities to Sheldon and Penny's relationship from The Big Bang Theory, I was instantly hooked with this ship.

Work Text:

Enid over time became Wednesday's closest friend, the only person who managed to worm inside her emotionless heart. An interesting turn of events, she thought. Who would've thought that after all the countless therapist sessions and arguments with her mother, it will be a cheerful colorful young werewolf who successfully endured and avoided all the traps towards her frozen heart.

Enid's curiosity pushed both girls out of their comfort zones, but her instincts were strong. She knew Wednesday's heart wasn't black in its core. Just shielded, armored and boobytrapped. With shark infested spike pits all around. Which she all successfully navigated around with the grace of a cat.

Even though she defeated the villain, Wednesday was still haunted by nightmares. Not the kind she loved, where she was the hunter. This was one horrible event looping on repeat. Crackstone resurrects from his chamber and stabs her with the dagger, twisting it around her guts, before she collapses and bleeds to death.

She wakes up screaming, clutching her belly over the wound. How many times will she have to go through this? The worst part was, she could not control the dreams.

Enid was again by her side, the only person who she was comfortable hugging.

"It's ok, you're awake now. You had another nightmare." She looked at Wednesday with those big blue eyes and rubbed her arms. The Goth girl looked pale and scared, breathing deeply.

"I usually enjoy nightmares, they cheer me up. This one… did not." Wednesday looked at her friend, quickly shutting off any show of emotions as usual. But Enid noticed where she was still clutching her belly.

"Show me. Show me where it hurts." Enid desperately wanted to help her best friend.

Wednesday didn't say anything. She just fell back in bed tired, gathering her thoughts again. Her highly intellectual mind quickly processed what happened. She didn't protest or push away Enid's hands.

"What happened…" Enid asked her, concerned.

"Crackstone…" Wednesday replied shortly and cold. She scratched around with her fingers, trusting Enid to do the rest. The mark she's been hiding. The one symbol of her mortality, despite her countless talents.

"Please, I want to see…" Enid was curious as ever, trying to dig deeper into her personality.

Wednesday was confused. She never cared what others thought of her or her body. But now she felt like being disfigured by Crackstone. What if Enid didn't like what she saw? And why did she care? Wednesday was still learning this whole friendship thing and everything that comes with it.

"Promise me…" Wednesday held Enid's hand, trying to stay stoic, holding back tears in her eyes. She was still reluctant, but if there's one weakness she developed this year at Nevermore, it was Enid's puppy eyes. She looked so adorable, not even Wednesday could say no, on occasion. She knew this could become a problem in the future.

"It's ok…" Enid reassured her and opened up a few buttons on her black and white shirt. That's where she saw it, a nasty scar on her friend's pale abdomen.

Enid was overwhelmed. She fell down crying onto Wednesday's belly, not believing the pain she must've been through. She ran her fingers across the healed wound. She was shaking.

"Why didn't you tell me…"

"For the first time in my life, I felt… Fear. Death? I sensed that on multiple occasions before." Wednesday was focused on her friend's nails, each in a different color.

Enid laid her face down on her belly and as if her wolf instincts came alive, she ran her lips and tongue across the scar, trying to make it go away.

Wednesday shivered. She knew Enid's touch wouldn't do anything, but it still felt. Nice. And warm. Both strange sensations to her.

"One thing I envy you werewolves..." Wednesday looked at Enid before she timidly petted her blonde hair.

Her wounded and deeply scratched skin was healed flawless in mere minutes after she fought the Hyde monster. "Mine will stay like this. Forever."

"Wear it proudly." Enid sniffed. "You defeated Crackstone, that's what matters!" She lay on her belly like a loyal puppy.

"I'd prefer a different souvenir. Like his head on a platter. Or his evil black heart in a jar." Wednesday daydreamed, smiling, looking at the ceiling.

"Gross…" Enid cringed, laying still. Her cheek laid on Wednesday's abdomen, while gently stroking her index finger up and down the stab wound. "How can you remain composed like this?"

"I don't understand." Wednesday raised her head, puzzled. Usually her brilliant mind had an answer before she even heard the end of a question. But talking about feelings always felt alien to her.

"You almost died, Wednesday!" Enid sobbed. It only then hit her, how close she was to losing her best friend. "I can't imagine…" Enid sniffed. One tear made down her face and onto the healed skin of her friend. "I could've lost you…"

"But you didn't." Wednesday looked at her. She didn't cry, but her expression told everything. Enid saw it. Despite Wednesday's words, she saw the fear and deep concern in her eyes. She didn't say a word, she was just happy they were together again.

"Oh, I'm sorry…" Enid noticed her tears on Wednesday's skin and quickly wiped them across her wound, which began to disappear. "Look! It's… It's healing!" She shot up and watched the miracle.

"I can feel it." Wednesday touched the troubled spot and smiled.

"What… Does… Does it hurt?" Enid was slightly panicked and very excited.

"Feels like a pin piercing. My brother and I used to play voodoo on each other. Nothing I can't handle." Wednesday answered in her usual cold voice.

"Ohh!" Enid was so happy, she jumped in Wednesday's embrace. Her goth friend simply patted her back. It was more than enough for the young blonde.

Wednesday rolled her eyes, when she saw Thing signaling her what to say.

"Thank you, Enid. You may let go now." Her hug was getting very uncomfortable.

"Uh! Sorry." Enid pulled away after an awkwardly long hug.

They both looked down onto the wound.

"It was right here…" Wednesday could still feel it, but the souvenir was gone.

"I can't believe it worked! I'm so glad I could help you." Enid almost beamed with satisfaction. She got up from Wednesday's bed. The Goth girl grabbed her hand.

"Enid? Could you…" This was very awkward and new for Wednesday. "Lay back like you were?" She looked at her happy friend. Enid slowly got used to Wednesday not blinking when she talked to her, which was a bit creepy at first. But now? She was more than glad to spend the night together, the bed was long enough for both of them. She curved into a ball and placed her head back onto Wednesday's warm belly like a cat.

The gruesome nightmare of her getting stabbed did not return anymore. There was however, another kind now haunting her dreams and stressing her out.

Wednesday shot opened her eyes in the morning. Enid was purring in her lap. She looked so peaceful, gently snoring into her.

"This girl…" She thought and rolled her eyes. She could not move out of her vampire sleeping position with Enid on top of her. "Enid? Wake up." She poked the blonde into her shoulder.

"Morning…" Enid yawned and raised up. "Slept well? I know I did."

"It was horrible." Wednesday answered emotionlessly.

"Oh…" Enid was a little disappointed.

"I wasn't getting stabbed to death, but I had to endure sunshine. Green grassy fields. Colorful puppies running around. Chasing rainbows. Not sure which was worse…" Wednesday said in all seriousness, which made Enid burst into laughter. "There's nothing funny about that."

"I dreamed the same!" Enid replied all happy, not caring for her grumpy roommate.

"You should sleep in your bed from now on." Wednesday instructed sharply and looked away.

"Aww, come on. Can I at least come over every… once a week?" Enid looked at her with those irresistible eyes.

"Why do you insist on torturing me?" Wednesday got up, still facing away.

"It will be fun! Tonight was the best sleep I ever had since I got here. Please?"

"Ugh…" Wednesday grumbled and headed out. It was as much of 'ok, fine' as she's ever going to get out of her darker roommate. She clapped her hands in joy and headed back to her colored end of the room and dressed up.

"This girl…" Wednesday could not get out of her head as she stomped down the stairs in her Monoliths. Maybe some extra color wouldn't feel so bad. Especially if it comes in the shape of a cheerful werewolf. She could live with that.
