Work Text:
Shouto wakes up, all warm in bed, but his eyes are blurry and he's afraid if he sleeps longer he'll end up with a headache.
"Uhnnn..."
He moves around a bit, and pushes his hand behind him to feel around - and accidentally slaps someone's back.
"What?"
He feels up and down a bit, and touches a head of soft curls.
"Mnnnh Shouto-kun..."
It's a girl's voice, and she sounds sleepy and grumpy. Her voice is raspy. Shouto stiffens. Why is he in bed with a woman?
"Let me sleep in for once... Uhn..." She yawns loudly, and then puts her arms around his waist and buries her face in his back.
"Good night. 'M going to sleep." She suppresses another yawn.
Shouto is still stiff. He does not know what is going on, and he does not know what to do. He doesn't know if this is a dream or if he should start freaking out. Just then the door bursts open and a child's voice gladly rings out: "Mommy, Daddy, I'm up! Get up! It's Saturday so we have the whole day to play!"
The woman behind him groans and buries her face deeper in Shouto's back, using him like a pillow. Shouto just stares at the little girl. This is his daughter? Since when? She has green hair and dark grey eyes, the same shade as his own right one. She looks a lot like his classmate and friend, Midoriya.
"Get up!" The little girl demands. She runs at him and jumps into the bed, sitting on top of the woman behind Shouto. She groans. He twists, and finally gets a look at her. It IS his classmate Midoriya.
"Midoriya," says Shouto. He pokes her on the forehead.
Midoriya frowns, and swats his hand away.
"Can't a hero get some rest around here?" She yawns, and opens out her arms to stretch them.
The little girl laughs, as Midoriya twists and takes her into her arms, nuzzling her tummy. She gives a shriek at that, and starts giggling uncontrollably. Midoriya laughs along with her.
Shouto finds himself smiling. It's a heartwarming scene, even if it is a rather strange dream. Does he have a subconscious wish to have a family with Midoriya? Their hypothetical kid IS cute, Shouto must admit.
Midoriya turns to him and smiles. Shouto can't help but smile back. She leans up and gives him a kiss. Shouto is taken aback. But he can't deny he's wanted to kiss Midoriya. If this is a dream, then it's a really nice one. Are they married? Are they a family?
"Whatcha thinkin' about, Mister?" Midoriya asks him, playfully. (Is she flirting?? Midoriya? With him???)
"Nothing," Shouto replies. "You."
He's rather surprised that he CAN reply. Quite normally, too. Midoriya just kissed him! As if she was quite used to doing it, too! Like they did this every morning!
Midoriya just laughs. Their little girl - theirs? Shouto really is dreaming - gravely moves Midoriya's face so that it's turned towards her.
"Mommy, kiss me too."
Midoriya - Izumi - laughs, and kisses her child.
The little girl then kisses her back, and crawls into Shouto's arms, which he opens up instinctively to hold her.
"You too, Daddy."
Shouto blinks.
"Okay."
If this is a dream, he might as well go along with it. He's not sure if he could ever be a dad, much less a good dad, but since this kid looks to be around four or more, and seems to trust him, and is sitting in his arms like she's used to it, then his dream-self must be doing something right. She's probably used to being kissed by her dad. Since it's a dream, maybe his dream self isn't as messed up as Shouto, and maybe he's a good dad. So he does what he imagines a good dad would do.
He obliges, and kisses his daughter on the top of her head. This seems to satisfy her, because she smiles and kisses his cheek, and then kisses her mother too.
"I love you guys."
Midoriya smiles at her, eyes crinkling with fondness.
"We love you, too." They say this together.
Shouto is happy. He thinks his dream-self must be happy too, all the time. At least when he's with these two.
Shouto is always happy when he's with Midoriya anyway, but he feels really... Content. Like everything is okay, and there isn't anything pressing that needs his attention. Relaxed. Happy. He wants to feel like this a lot more.
Maybe when he wakes up he'll finally ask Midoriya on a date. They're both busy heroes, but he can try. He'll take his courage in both hands, and try. He should at least tell her how he feels - has felt, since high school. Maybe Midoriya will say no, but he'd really - if there's even a chance, he'd like to build a future like this, with her.
