A Good Night's Rest

Summary:

You thought you were alone working in the Arklay facility laboratories at late hours, tiredness, and the guilt of Marcus's "experiments" taking a toll on you. Luckily, the night had a surprise for you, a comforting surprise.

Notes:

If you have any advice on writing, don't be afraid to comment. Still pretty new to this so I'd appreciate it.

Sorry if there's grammatical errors. I proof read a lot but dyslexia is a bitch.

Thank you for reading!

Work Text:

The dim lights of the computer screen began to sting the Doctor's eyes, though they had become numb to it almost, long nights in the labs had become a frequent occurrence. The scent of coffee and harsh chemicals wasn't too appealing, but how else would you stay awake? You had to write up all the reports of the recent experiments with the test subjects, the rats, that were making quite a ruckus. You sighed and placed your fingers on your temples, frowning.

"Why does Marcus insist in leaving me to write these up?"

You spoke with an agitated tone, not worrying of anyone overhearing of course, it was 1am, not much action in the Arklay facility at these hours. Unless you were a determined scientist of course.

Picking up the now cold brew of coffee, you stood from your chair, looking down at your watch as you walked over to the door. To your surprise there was a tall dark figure standing in-between the frame

"Shouldn't you be sleeping, Doctor?"

Though he tried to hide it, Wesker sounded tired, and as he stepped into the light, looked it too. He was wearing his lab coat, along with his black turtle neck and black suit pants, always so formal.

"I would, if Marcus hadn't left me to write up his reports"

a playful tone in your voice as you nervously sipped your cold coffee, instantly regretting it.

"Yes...I remember him having quite a habit of doing that"

Wesker walked over to the cages, peering down at the rats. Expression stoic, and of course his sunglasses making it evermore impossible to see what was going through his mind. You were always curious, after the few months of being there, you had casual conversations often, which surprised others, and you could always feel him watching, he enjoyed that part. But despite it all, the two of you had never actually been in a room alone.

"Any notable updates in the project?"

He didn't turn to speak to you, but kept his gaze on the rats, which scattered around the cage.

"Well, that's something you'll have to ask Marcus, confidentiality and all"

You awkwardly smiled, Wesker knows that you can't provide him any information. It was Marcus's research, you were an assistant. So why is he asking? You look into your pockets, with the scribbled notes dotted inside, a headache brewing. You needed to get a coffee and get back to work, however...you had a distraction in the room.

Wesker placed is arms behind his back and walked towards you, keeping a noticeable distance.

"Of course, forigve me. What I mean to ask is, how are you finding things?"

You were surprised by his question, physically tilting your head back and raising your eyebrows, but you smiled of course.

"Well..."

You bit your lip and stared into your coffee cup, finding it difficult to think for second, you really weren't mentally prepared for any social interactions right now.

"I'm enioying it, even now really at these hours..."

Wesker lowered his arms, and stepped closer, intrigued by the sudden change of atmosphere

"This research...feels like it's really going to make a difference, I've never been so passionate about a project. This may be where I make my life's work"

You chuckled, realising how sentimental you had gotten, looking up from the coffee cup into Wesker's eyes, barely visible through the tinted glass. He had gotten closer without you realising.

"It's always pleasant seeing passionate scientists"

He smiled and nodded his head forward as he spoke

"And you are a gifted one, aren't you?"

Your cheeks flushed at the compliment, stepping back to your desk and placing your coffee down, leaving a hand on the desk and looking back up at Wesker

"That's what the diploma says. But it's a persons determination that really makes them what they are"

Wesker smiled, folding his arms across his chest.

"I agree, and pushing ones potential is most needed for these projects"

You nodded, and returned the smile he had given.

"A requirement really"

Your expression went cold for a second as you looked over at the rats, Wesker noticed and turned his gaze to the rats too. You both were silent for a moment. You both knew the truths behind Marcus's research. The lives tortured and taken. It was a daily battle with the guilt of experimenting of those poor souls. You needed this research to mean something. Otherwise you had tortured them for nothing. Wesker returned his gaze to you, and placed a hand on your shoulder softly

"Sacrifices are necessary, for the benefit of the future, no, humanity, (Y/N)"

His face was stern, but you could feel he was trying to comfort you with his words, and you desperately needed that comfort. You nodded and placed your hand on his as it rested on your shoulder and sighed. You would surely be embarrassed by this action in the moring but the sleep deprivation had taken you in this moment.

"Thank you, Albert."

He gazed down at you, starring into your eyes for a moment. He let out a breath from his lips, and felt a knot in his stomach, he placed his thumb over your hand. He soothingly rubbed his thumb over your hand and smiled softly.

"It will be alright, dearheart"

His words stabbed you, in a wonderous way, you had been starved of those words for far too long. Wesker placed his other hand on the side of your cheek, he tiled his head as he did so. Starring into your eyes.

"It will. I promise."

You both move closer to one another, your hand gripping his tighter without realising. You looked down, feeling your eyes beginning to water, but he moved his hand to your chin, and lifted it up, so that your gaze met his

"You will see, the future I am to bring, it will be wonderous'"

You weren't completely sure what he meant by those words, you knew he was a genius, you knew he shared your passions for a equal world, but Wesker had a darker sense about him. But unfortunately, you had grown rather attracted to that. Among other things he possessed.

He brought you in closer, and embraced you, your head just to his colar bone. He placed a hand on the back of your head and breathed in slowly. You couldn't quite believe this was Wesker, it felt off-putting but perfect at the same time. Perhaps you were just lucky to catch him in a generous mood, or maybe he needed it just as much as you. He whispered into your ear, ever so gently, you clung onto each word desperately

"Let yourself weep, dearheart"

And so, you did.
