Work Text:
Getting lost in the woods had not been on Gem’s list of things to do today, well it actually kinda had, but she hadn’t meant this literally! All Gem had wanted to do was to go into the woods for a nice long stroll and to see the last fading glimpses of summer through the shifting leaves and trees, but she may have gotten a bit distracted by some of the plants and animals roaming the woods and now she in fact was lost. Making matters whose the sun had long since set in the woods, leaving everything in a thick blanket of shadows which, to her dismay, had made figuring out where she was even harder!
“I can’t believe you've gotten yourself into this mess.” Gem grumbled before kicking a poor scrap of leaf that had just happened to be in her path.
Walking a bit further, Gem was finally met with a small break in the trees. Stepping her way carefully through the multicolored foliage clogging up any entrance to the break, Gem finally managed to break through and what she was greeted with was a small clearing. Glancing around the clearing, Gem noticed three things. First, in the center of the clearing lay a giant cascade of rocks and boulders. Second, for all Gem could see, while the forest around her before had been so thickly choked in foliage and trees, but this clearing was quite opposite the sparse grass once filled with life now browning as fall took hold of it was strewn out all throughout the clearing and the trees along the edges only could reach their own branches’ so far leaving the cold soddent forest air exposed to the ever gleaming stars and bright moon above. The last thing Gem had noticed was that she, in fact, was not alone. Across the clearing, clearly not yet noticing her, was a wolf, its silver pelt glistening like one of the many stars in the sky.
“Uh hello?” Gem calls out to the wolf. Would this work? I mean if, either way, once it spots her it would probably run anyways so it would be worth a shot. To Gem’s surprise, the wolf, instead of running at the sound, actually whirled around to face her.
“Oh why hello there!” The wolf greeted as it easily made its way down the pile of rocks and right over to Gem. “I don’t really see many visitors around here, so what might your name be?”
“Oh uhh it's Gem, and I was on a walk and I may have maybe gotten a bit distracted and ended up getting lost in the woods here” Gem said, gesturing to the trees that she had not just five minutes ago made her way through.
“Well then Gem, if we're going to be introducing ourselves I’m Pearl!” the wolf now known as Pearl happily exclaimed before she held out one of her large silver paws as if to give a hand shake. “Well don’t just stand, their like a dumb struck fawn shake my paw!” Pearl barked with a laugh.
Blinking a few more times to make sure the silvery furred wolf in front of Gem was in fact real, she quickly shook her forepaw. Pearl for, supposedly having lived in these woods all her life, her paws were actually quite soft and warm.
“What if we both went to find you a way out of here!” Pearl suggested as she quickly let go of her hand and spun around, her tail wagging in excitement.
Mulling over the offer, Gem decided that it probably wouldn’t hurt to have company out here, would it? Especially one who was acquainted with these woods.
“I’ll do it.” Gem exclaimed quickly, watching Pearl's electric blue eyes gleam with excitement.
“Well then, what are we waiting for, let's get a move on!” saying that Pearl, quickly with practiced ease, slipped away into the bushes ahead, her silver form quickly disappeared into the foliage and shadows of night. Giggling, Gem quickly followed after her.
“Hey! Wait for me you goose!”
