Chapter 1: Every Breath You Take

Chapter Text

April 24th, 1981

"Billy, what's wrong with you?" Your eyes widened as you stared at the glistening blade. You adjusted your positioning as a group of kids walked past you, hiding the pocket knife that your boyfriend flipped between his fingers from view. "I just wanna scare him - I'm not gonna hurt him." He reassured you, flashing you a charming smile as he looked at you with an icy blue stare. The boy he wanted to scare, Caleb - he was harmless, just a little too insistent that you belonged together. He followed you everywhere, even after you let him down gently - and you were too nice to say anything more. He wasn't hurting you, and you didn't feel threatened by him - and truthfully, you knew it bothered Billy more than yourself.

You were dating Billy - a boy you spent practically every day with since you met him. You knew him well, and knew if anyone upset you - he'd make sure they regretted it. He was extremely protective of you, and while you appreciated it - he scared you sometimes. "I need you to promise me you won't hurt him." You had insisted, crossing your arms as you leaned on the bleachers behind you. He followed your movement and closed the space between you, placing a chaste kiss to your forehead. "I promise - but I need you to take this, just for now. Until lunch time. Principal is already watching me too closely. You won't get into trouble - you're too much of a good girl."

Of course you weren't okay with it - but you took it anyway, slipping it into your backpack. You had always felt like you owed Billy for all the times he stood up for you, and of course you didn't want him to get in trouble - it would only mean more time apart. He smiled in your direction as he stepped away from you and walked towards the school, your heart melting in your chest as you followed him.

You had been changing in the locker room when it happened - your open backpack fell onto the tiled floor, it's contents spilling everywhere - including the knife. The girl beside you immediately saw it, running to the teacher to cry wolf - and despite your pleas of innocence, you were still expelled. You refused to pin the blame on Billy, knowing he'd get into more trouble then you - so you kept quiet and took your punishment. Your mother was fed up - Billy Hargrove was trouble was trouble, and you needed to be separated from him. Within a few weeks, you were moved to a new town, starting with a fresh slate. New friends, new school - no more Billy.

October 1984

"Steve, hurry up - we're gonna be late." You pleaded with your boyfriend as you stared at your reflection in the visor mirror, reapplying a thin layer of lip gloss to your pale lips. Running a brush through your hair quickly, you shut the visor and looked forward as you pulled into the parking lot of Hawkins High School. "Ten minutes early is not late." He retorted, looking over once he pulled into a parking spot. You snickered and adjusted your cardigan as you looked at him. Leaning forward, he placed a soft kiss to your lips. "Mmm, strawberry. Taste just as sweet as you look." He flashed you a charming smile and you couldn't help but match it, rolling your eyes a little at how cliché he sounded. "You're lucky you're so good looking." You stepped out of the car with your books in hand, slipping your bag over your shoulder. Before you walked away from Steve's BMW, you watched a blue Camaro pull into the parking lot, a car you had never seen before. Your eyes were glued to it, watching as a redhead stepped out of the passenger side, skating towards the other building before you could get a good look at her. Not long after the driver stepped out, black boots and denim head to toe. As he turned, a familiar pair of icy blue hues locked with yours, and you swear your heart skipped a beat. You blinked, thinking you were seeing the impossible - but when your eyes opened and readjusted, he was still there. You left Billy behind in California years ago - but the way he looked at you before he headed towards the school confirmed your thoughts. Billy Hargrove is in Hawkins - it couldn't just be a coincidence, right?

"Who is that?" Steve's voice interrupted your thoughts as you turned to look at him. "No clue, new I guess." You responded quickly, reaching for his hand as you walked together. Your mind ran wild with questions - but decided it was best to ignore his presence until you couldn't. As you walked through the halls, your boyfriend was greeted with fist bumps and smiles - mostly from the female population that nearly melted at the sight of him. You weren't as loved and popular as Steve was, but dating him brought you new friends and acquaintances. It was still hard to believe that a boy like Steve was with a girl like you - while he was outgoing, athletic and popular, you were more reserved, preferring to spend your time reading a book or writing. To everyone else, he was King Steve - but to you, he was just another dork.

You stopped in your path as you reached your locker, switching out your textbooks for your upcoming classes. Steve leaned on the locker beside yours, his focus elsewhere. "Hello, Earth to Steve.." Your voice trailed, but when he didn't respond, you slammed your locker shut to bring him to attention. "Something wrong, baby?" You asked him, your voice softer this time.

"Sorry, I just - I'm trying to figure out what this guy's deal is." He sighed, eventually turning his attention to you. You leaned past him slightly to see who he had set his sights on - Billy was standing in the middle of the hallway, surrounded by a group of girls who were twirling their hair around their fingers and giggling way too loud. You rolled your eyes and slipped your arm into Steve's, leading him in the opposite direction. Once you reached the door to your first class, you turned to face him. "Don't worry - you'll always be my king." You smirked, leaning up and placing a soft kiss on his lips. "And you, my queen." He returned the kiss, giving you a soft smile as he pulled away and headed towards his own class.

Lucky for you, your morning came and went, and before you knew it, it was lunchtime. Before making your way into the cafeteria, you dropped off any unnecessary books in your locker and bought a soda from the machine. Weaving through the crowd, you made your way to your usual table, slipping yourself onto Steve's empty lap. Reaching over him, you grabbed a fry from his tray, slipping it into your mouth. "Hey, who said I was sharing?" He looped a hand around your waist and tickled you, capturing your lips in a sweet kiss. You heard a few snickers and whistles from around you, Carol's voice interjecting your moment. "You two need to get a room." She spoke, clicking her gum obnoxiously as you pulled away from Steve's embrace. "What, Tommy not giving you enough action?" Steve chimed in while you looked up to her boyfriend who had just appeared behind her. "Oh, she gets plenty. Don't worry." Tommy said with a smirk, Carol rolling her eyes as her eyes noticeably shifted to the figure behind her boyfriend, who became apparent when Tommy stepped aside. "Guys, this is Billy - just moved here from California. He's cool."

Your eyes locked with Billy's, immediately getting a chill down your spine. It was definitely the boy you once knew - but he was older now. Taller, longer hair, and muscular - with a cutting jawline that made him look like a magazine model.

"Y/N, are you deaf?" Tommy's voice snapped you from your trance. Shit, were you staring? "I'm sorry, what?" You asked, and while everyone else found it amusing, Steve was silent.

"I said, you're from Cali too, aren't you?" He repeated, and you nodded. "Yeah, I am. Nice to meet someone from the beach." You smiled, silently hoping he didn't bring up how you grew up together. You never told Steve about him, and you didn't plan on it - not unless you had to.

"Likewise." Billy stated simply, his voice much deeper than you remember. The corner of his lips pulled upward into a smirk as he sat down in an empty seat, quickly starting a conversation with someone else at the table. Besides mentions of Tina's Halloween party that was going on that night, you spent the rest of lunch mostly silent, occasionally stealing glances from your former friend from across the table. When the bell rung you stood, following Steve out of the cafeteria. He was unusually silent, and knew he something was bothering him. You stopped at the end of the hall before you usually made your way to science together, looking up at him with your head tilted. "Steve, what's going on?"

"Nothing. Let's just go to class, okay?"

You sighed. "I gotta finish some homework before the party tonight - mind if I skip out?" He pouted but didn't argue, knowing you could afford to skip with your grades. Lifting your hand, he kissed it before he made his way down the hall to class. You watched him for a moment before you headed into the library, where you took a seat in the far corner. Sliding your notebook onto the table, you began your math homework, barely noticing the presence that appeared behind you a few minutes later. The strong scent of cigarettes and cologne filled your nose, breaking your concentration. Before you could acknowledge them, they sat in the chair beside you. "Still a good girl, huh?"

You looked up from your paper slowly, eyes meeting with Billy's. "Just doing my homework." You spoke dismissively, hoping he'd get the hint - but he didn't move. You closed your notebook and sighed, turning and looking at him. "What're you doing here, Billy?" He smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Figured your boyfriend doesn't know about me, so I had to get you alone. Funny how this is exactly where I expected you to be."

"I meant, in Hawkins." You shot back, looking away. His smile faded quickly, arms crossing.

"I didn't want to move to this shithole, trust me. My dad and Susan got married."

"Wait, that was Max I saw earlier?" When you last saw the redhead, she was still so young. He grimaced and narrowed his eyes, leaning forward on the chair slightly as the librarian eyed him. "Yeah. That little bitch is the reason we're here in the first place."

"Billy."  Your voice was a bit more stern then intended, but you hated when he spoke of his sister in such a vile way. You placed a hand on his arm, but he almost instantaneously pulled it away. "Your dad, does he still-"

"You have no right to ask me this shit when you're the one that left." He interrupted, his voice raising. You inhaled sharply, eyes shifting when the librarian made a motion to quiet down. "You got me expelled, Billy." You lowered your voice, looking back in his direction as you spoke. "The only reason I didn't get in more trouble was because my mother insisted it wasn't mine - and my mother worked on the school board."

"Your mother hasn't liked me since she caught us kissing in your room after that New Year's party." His voice perked up, a slight smile on his lips as he reminisced.

"We were thirteen, Billy."

"Not anymore."

Suddenly, your fight or flight response kicked in - and all you wanted to do was get away from him. You quickly stood and gathered your books, but he quickly closed you in, blocking your only exit. You could smell the mint from his gum on his breath, the heat from his body engulfing you as you stood still. You breathed out his name softly, looking into his eyes - God, he was beautiful. You snapped out of your thoughts when you heard Steve's voice. Billy backed away slowly but not completely, leaving Steve room to step between you. "Y/N, everything okay?" He only made eye contact with Billy, though - who only had a look of amusement in his eyes.

"Harrington, right?" Billy spoke up, not giving you a chance to respond. You slid your hand into Steve's, silently telling him it was okay and to keep calm. "Yeah, what's it to you?" He responded, stepping closer to the other. While Steve was taller, Billy still used intimidation to stand his ground. "Everything's fine. Just catching up with an old friend." Billy placed a firm hand of reassurance on Steve's shoulder before shooting you a cocky grin, headed towards the library exit.

"Old friend?" Steve questioned, immediately turning to you for an explanation. "We went to school together in California." You quickly responded, hoping he'd drop the subject - but of course, he didn't.

"I thought you didn't know him."

You sighed, leading him to the doors. "I kinda forgot he existed." You lied, turning to face him. "Can you just let it go, please? Also, why aren't you in class?" You asked curiously, crossing your arms.

"Movie day. Figured I'd spend the time with my girlfriend, but she was too occupied with her friend not friend."

"Steve, jealousy is not cute on you." You reached up to place a reassuring hand on his cheek. "I promise you that you don't need to worry about him, okay?" Despite your words, he seemed unconvinced, still sporting a sour pout on his lips. "Why don't we take the rest of the day to ourselves before the party tonight?" With little to no thought he agreed, and you both left school after signing out, leaving the thought of Billy behind - at least, for the moment.

Later that night..

"God, why did we pick this costume? It's so uncomfortable." You shifted in the leather pants you just slipped onto your body, looking at yourself in the mirror. Your eyes set on your boyfriend, who slipped his arms around your waist from behind you. "Well, for one - it makes your ass look great." He leaned down, placing a kiss on your neck. You turned around to face him, adjusting his leather jacket. "You look great too, babe. But the hair -"

"The hair stays as is." He retorted and you laughed, watching as he ran a hand through it. You pulled away and sat at your vanity, applying red lipstick and some eyeliner, finishing with a spritz of your perfume. You stood, slipping on the red heels that matched your costume. Steve was standing in your doorway, twirling his keys around his finger as he watched you. "Ready?" He questioned and you nodded, following him into the hallway after shutting your bedroom door. Your mother was standing in the kitchen, drink in hand as she looked you over. "Steven, I want her home no later than eleven, understand? And limit the drinking, please. It's a school night."

Steve nodded, leading you to the door. "No worries. She's in good hands, I promise." he reassured her, noting the smile your mother gave him before you pulled him out of the house. You stepped into the passenger seat and looked out the window, watching your moms silhouette until it disappeared. Your relationship with her had never been great, and it only became worse when your father died in a car crash when you were younger. Your father always respected and treasured his daughter, while your mother consistently belittled you, making you feel like what you did was never good enough.

When you finally reached the party, you allowed Steve to lead you inside. There was barely enough room to move around, smoke and the smell of beer filling your senses. When you finally found a spot to stand, you put your back to the wall. "I'll go get us some drinks - wait here." Steve placed a kiss on your cheek before walking away, making his way to the kitchen were the alcohol was. Your eyes wandered upon your surroundings, seeing familiar faces but no one you knew that well. You kept your back planted to the wall, shifting uncomfortably on your feet as a crowd moved past you. You hated parties - if it wasn't for you dating Steve, you wouldn't bother going to them.

You jumped when you felt a hand on your waist, Steve appearing beside you with a cup in either hand. "C'mon, let's get somewhere more comfortable." You took the drink as it was handed to you, allowing him to lead you from the dining area into the living room, where people were dancing. You stationed yourself by an open window, thankful for the breeze in the otherwise warm house. "Drink a little - you'll feel better." Steve teased you, sensing how anxious you were. You sighed and nursed your drink as you mingled, toying with the edge of your cup.

Your peace was soon interrupted by a familiar name being chanted by a group of guys making their way inside. You ignored it at first, but your eyes soon landed on Billy, who appeared in front of you. Beer dribbled down his chin and onto his bare chest, mixing with sweat. A leather jacket hung around his shoulders, framing his defined chest. "We got ourselves a new Keg King, Harrington." Tommy gloated, patting Billy's shoulder firmly as he stood there proudly. Steve looked unamused, almost annoyed at his declaration. When Tommy and the others finally stepped away into the crowd, Billy stood still, his eyes raking over your body unapologetically. You felt how tense Steve when his arm slipped around your waist, holding you tightly as Billy smirked.

"Don't look so upset, Harrington. Can't hold the throne forever." Billy spoke, sliding his hand in his pocket to pull out a cigarette. You stayed silent, watching as he lit it. "I don't give a shit, man. Have fun."

Billy took a step back, clearly amused by Steve's annoyance. "Oh, I will. But you better watch out, King Steve - I might come for your girl next." He winked at you, clearly trying to provoke Steve. You held Steve back, but his hand slipped out of your grip and he closed the space between him and Billy. "Steve, relax, baby - Billy was kidding, right?" You shot a look in Billy's direction, eventually convincing him to step back. Billy displayed a shit eating smirk on his lips, tongue running along his teeth. "Yeah, nothing to worry about. I already had my taste." He winked in your direction, stepping away before either of you could respond. Steve turned to face you almost immediately, an ugly scowl on his features. "The fuck does he mean, a taste? What aren't you telling me?"

You took a long sip from your cup, needing the liquid courage to continue this conversation. "Look, I'll tell you everything tomorrow, okay? I'd rather not have this conversation while we're drinking." You pleaded with him, but he was insistent. His arm slid from your waist and he gripped onto your hand, pulling you up the stairs. When you reached an empty room he led you inside, shutting the door behind him. "What happened to our honesty pact? I thought you told me everything, then this asshole comes along, and somehow I can't trust what you're telling me.."

"Steve, it's not what you think."

"So you aren't having sex with him?"

You couldn't hide your eye roll, hitting his arm lightly as you made your way to the bed, where you sat on the edge. "I love you, idiot. I wouldn't cheat on you." He breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief, sitting beside you as he finished off his cup. "So you're telling me the guy is just trying to antagonize me? Why?"

You toyed with the cup in your hand, knowing you had to tell him everything - before Billy made something up or decided to tell him himself. "We met when we were ten - we went to the same school. He was always nice to me, when no one else was. He stood up to my bullies and protected me." Steve listened intently as you spoke, looking a bit surprised at your words - but he let you continue. "His dad - he was abusive. To both him and his mom - and she left. She left him alone with that asshole and he took the brunt of the anger - he'd come to school with bruises, a black eye - but he always said he fell. He got into fights, even sent a kid home with a broken nose one day because he called me a nerd."

Steve eyed you for a moment, parting his lips to speak - but he truly didn't know what to say. "We started dating in middle school - but the abuse at home was getting worse. He was picking fights every day, got caught smoking - did everything he could to get in trouble to defy his father. He always teased me for being a good girl, but I didn't mind - at the time, he was my only friend. My mom didn't like him though - knew he was trouble. That's why she banned him from seeing me after she caught us making out in my room at a family party." He sighed, reaching for your hand. You couldn't tell if he was annoyed, bored or upset at the fact that you waited so long to tell him all of this - but you continued nonetheless. "He brought a knife to school to scare some kid that wouldn't leave me alone - but he made me hold onto it, because he knew he was on his last straw with the school and I wouldn't get caught with it. But I did - it fell out of my bag and I got expelled. My mom moved me out of Cali because she wanted me away from him."

The silence was deafening for a few moments, but you were thankful when he finally spoke up. "I'm sorry I got mad at you - but please, next time, just tell me? You can't control what you did in the past." He cupped your cheek in his hand, placing a soft kiss to your lips. You nodded, sighing into his touch. "I'm sorry that asshole took advantage of you. Makes me want to punch his stupid face even more."

You laughed, shaking your head. "My knight in shining armor." You joked, nudging him playfully. "Wanna go back out there? I feel bad I pulled you away." You asked him, but he shrugged, reaching behind him to put his cup on the table. "We have an empty room all to ourselves - why don't you let me show you just how sorry I am for being such a dick?" He asked you, his soft eyes lowering as he leaned you back, his body hovering over yours as he placed soft kisses down your exposed neck. You whined softly, watching him as he moved lower. After unzipping your leather pants, he slid them down your body and tossed them to the floor, along with your heels. His fingertips grazed along your inner thigh, working towards your black, lacy panties. He kissed along the hemline, humming against your skin as he slowly peeled them from your body. "You wore these just for me, didn't you?" He whispered, looking up at you briefly as he spoke. "I know they're your favorite." You bit your lower lip as he leaned back up to you, placing a kiss to your lips. He kissed you slow, his hand on your jaw as he slid his tongue past your lips. You could feel how hard his cock was already, his clothed body pressed against your bare one. You moaned softly into his mouth, feeling the smirk form on his lips as he pulled away. "Such a needy girl, aren't you?"

---

It was a good night - as good as it'll ever get in a shithole town like Hawkins. Billy had already successfully bruised Steve Harrington's ego, gotten piss drunk, and a few girls numbers. Not that he'd call them unless he desperately needed to get off, but still - it made them feel good knowing Billy Hargrove gave them attention. He was getting bored of lingering around the same crowd, listening to the same stupid, vapid bullshit over and over again. "I gotta go take a piss." He announced to no one in particular as he began to search for a bathroom. The first two were occupied, so he made his way up the stairs, figuring in a house this size there had to be more. He pushed through an unoccupied room to spot an open bathroom. "Rich pricks." He mumbled, moving to the door and shutting it behind him. He unzipped his jeans and began relieving himself, only to hear voices in the room he occupied. Not intentionally, he began to listen - and hearing it was you and Steve, he got a lot more interested.

He listened to you tell Steve about everything - about how you became friends, about his family life - how you got caught being stupid and got yourself expelled. Billy had half a mind to open the door and stop the conversation, but he didn't - not when Harrington said he wanted to make up for being a dick. When he heard movement and no more talking, his curiosity got the best of him. He peeked the door open to see you sprawled out on the bed in your underwear, with Steve kissing down your body. "Fuck.." He mumbled under his breath, his eyes taking in your curves. You were just as beautiful as he remembered - but more mature. Of course, when you were together you were both young - it never went further then kissing. He never imagined his shy, nerdy, cute friend would grow up into such a voluptuous, sexy woman. He was mesmerized by the way your body moved , just the slightest motions making your tits bounce. Steve was taking way too fucking long with you, and Billy wanted to see more - he needed to see more. "Fucking rip her clothes off and fuck her or I will, Harrington." Billy spoke through gritted teeth, feeling the blood run to his cock as he heard you moan.

---

"Yes, Steve, I need you - please." You pleaded, watching as he made his way down your body. Your pussy was slick with arousal, and Steve's mouth was watering before he even touched you. He plunged his tongue into your folds, causing your back to arch in pleasure. Steve's motions became needy, despite him wanting to take his time with you tonight - he couldn't help himself. You were so sexy, so needy - and he wanted nothing more than to fuck you into another dimension. His finger rubbed circles on your clit as he continued to eat you out, sending waves of pleasure through your body, already building your climax. He didn't want you to cum just yet - despite the delicious noises you were making. He stopped when he felt that you were close, and you pouted in protest. "Steve, come on -" You pleaded, watching as he leaned up, licking his lips. "Patience, baby." He told you, pulling his shirt off his head as he moved to you to do the same. After removing your shirt he removed the matching black lace bra, tossing it to the side. You couldn't help but notice his cock strain against his jeans as you laid before him completely naked. "You are so fucking gorgeous - you know that?"

You smirked as you watched him unbutton and unzip his jeans, freeing his cock from it's constraints. He wasn't that thick, but he was still big - your mouth watering as you stared. You had sex with him before, of course - but it was still surreal being with someone as perfect as him. Aligning his tip with your opening, he slid into you slowly at first, feeling him stretch your cunt with every inch. You bit your lip harshly as you watched him, giving you a moment to adjust before he picked up his pace. You appreciated how gentle he was, but you wanted more. "Come on, baby - you can be rough. I promise I won't break." Steve's eyes filled with pure lust as you spoke, making it his duty to fulfil your wish.

"Ride me - I want to see all of you."

At his command, you flipped him over, straddling him to the bed with your legs on either side. You lowered yourself onto his length, slowly at first - wanting to feel every inch of him fill you. His eyes rolled back as he gripped your hips, your slick walls covering every inch with arousal. You began moving your hips against his, never taking your eyes off of him. "Does this feel good, baby?" You asked him, leaning down to capture a kiss from his swollen lips.

---

"Fuck yeah it does." Billy attempted to keep his groans quiet as he watched you ride Steve. His hand was pumping his throbbing length at this point, watching the way your body moved. He had a great view - your side profile didn't hide how incredible you looked naked. The way your hair fell down your bare back, the way your tits bounced as you rode Steve's cock - and your ass, he could only imagine fucking you from behind, spanking you so hard you see stars. Steve was irrelevant, but this may be the only time he felt envious of the prick - feeling that sweet pussy clench his cock, he could only imagine how it felt. "Jesus fucking Christ." He breathed, feeling the precum leak from his tip as he watched you. He had half a mind to step out of the bathroom to show himself, cock in hand - just to see how you'd react. He behaved for now, though - enjoying the show from afar.

---

Steve's hands assisted in your movements, meeting your thrusts with his own. His fingertips bruised into your skin as he held onto your hips, watching your every movement. "Fuck.." He groaned, the tip of his cock hitting the perfect spot. You were moving at a merciless rhythm, your back arching as you felt your body heat and a familiar ache between your thighs. "Baby, I'm getting close.." You breathed, leaning down to place a sloppy kiss on his lips. He slid his hand down your stomach, his thumb making fast circles on your clit. "I want you to cum all over my cock - I want to feel you." His words made you shiver and you moaned, leaning back again to steady your movements. Moments later your body reached its climax, shockwaves of pleasure gripping your body as you rode it out. Steve barely gave you enough time to come down from it as he quickly lifted you off his cock and helping you to your knees as he stood before you, running his hand along his shaft until he spilled his seed inside your mouth. His slim fingers, lifted your chin sweetly, thumb swiping across your bottom lip as you swallowed. "God, I love you."

---

Billy stood behind the door still, his hand and forearm coated in cum. His breathing was erratic, slowly declining from the high he got while watching you and Steve fuck. Grabbing the towel from the hanger he wiped himself off, tossing it to the side before tucking himself back into his jeans.  "I better get you home - I don't want to be on your moms bad side." Steve said to you as he got dressed while you followed, trying to make yourself look like you weren't just freshly fucked. Billy watched as you pulled the leather pants over your ass, the fabric accentuating everything that was hidden underneath. He stayed hidden until you and Steve left the room, emerging from the bathroom. He had a new goal as the new King of Hawkins - and that was to make you his. No matter the cost.
