Work Text:
(y/n) was enjoying a nice night at Swerve’s to celebrate her third year aboard the Lost Light. The human liaison had spent all day talking and hanging out with her fellow crew mates, however, the bot she wanted to see most was nowhere to be found.
Determined to be unbothered, (y/n) sat with Drift at the bar. Her friend eyed her knowingly. “You know,” he started. “I heard Magnus muttering something about how Rodimus has been ignoring his captain duties all day.” Drift took a sip of high grade.
“So?” (y/n) said, taking a sip of her own drink.
“So, he’s probably planning something.” He said while trying to hide a smirk behind his cube. (y/n) held back a huff at her friend’s words. Drift was her closest friend other than Rodimus on the ship. Unfortunately Rodimus seemed to have been avoiding her all week, and she couldn’t figure out why.
Drift knew exactly why Rodimus had been acting strange. Because Rodimus finally realized that he was in love with (y/n). Drift also knew that (y/n) had had a crush on the captain for the better part of her three years on board. He also knew what Rodimus was planning tonight, because he helped set it up.
(y/n) had just finished her drink when a familiar tune started to drift (no pun intended) through the bar. “I love this song!” (y/n) said with a smile on her face.
“Think about it, there must be a higher love”
The lyrics started and (y/n) thought no way.
“Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above”
Yes way.
“Without it, life is wasted time
Look Inside your heart, and I’ll look inside mine”
(y/n) stood up from the human-sized table at the bar to try to see through the crowded room of cybertronians.
“Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and try to see
Falling behind in what could be”
And then she saw Rodimus with a grin on his faceplates and a microphone in his servos.
“Bring me a higher love”
He sang, and (y/n) felt her face heating up.
“Bring me a higher love, oh
Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love I keep thinking of?”
His optics scanned the room looking for something before landing on her.
“Worlds are turning, and we’re just hanging on”
He was walking toward her.
“Facing our fear, and standing out there alone”
The drunk crowd of the bar parted as he sang.
“A yearning, and it’s real to me
There must be someone who’s feeling for me”
She was definitely blushing.
“Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and try to see
Falling behind in what could be”
Rodimus was standing right in front of her now.
“Bring me a higher love
Bring me a higher love, oh
Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love, I keep thinking of?”
Drift watched as (y/n) tried to process what was happening with a grin on his face as Rodimus continued to sing to her like they were the only ones there.
“I could rise above on a higher love
I will wait for it, I’m not too late for it
Until then, I’ll sing my song
To cheer the night along”
(y/n) was smiling as she began to sing along.
“I could light the night up with my soul on fire”
Rodimus leaned over the bar top.
“I could make the sun shine from pure desire”
They were both singing into the microphone.
“Let me feel that love come over me”
Rodimus felt energon rush to his faceplates as he realized how close they were, looking at each other eye to optic.
“Let me feel how strong it could be”
(y/n) was still blushing as she stared at his lips over the mic, and oh how Rodimus wanted to kiss her.
“Bring me a higher love”
(y/n) closed her eyes as she sang.
“Bring me a higher love, oh”
Rodimus never took his optics off of her.
“Bring me a higher love
Where’s that higher love, I keep thinking of?
O-oh”
(y/n) opened her eyes as her surroundings came back into focus, but she was only looking at Rodimus. He had a soft look on his faceplates and no right to look so damn pretty. (y/n) blushed at the thought, her face growing even warmer as Rodimus leaned in even closer and-
“Do you want to go somewhere quiet where we can talk?” he asked. (y/n) nodded dumbly, it was all she could do. Drift gave the pair a thumbs up as Rodimus and (y/n) left the bar.
