Chapter Text
Dear Sherlock Holmes;
It’s been exactly eighteen months since I left the Reichenbach falls, as the final battle occurred on the fourth of May 1891. It is 1892 and a lot has changed my dear fellow.
Lestrade and Hopkins are both doing well; Lestrade mentions you sometimes, I believe he was fonder of you than he’d like to admit. Going back to working as a surgeon has been a tad difficult; Every little thing reminds me of you and the times we shared together. It is the main reason why I had to escape the confines of 221B. The work I do nowadays you would comment on how “commonplace” and “utterly unintriguing” it all is, but it suits me at this present moment so I shall continue helping where I can.
Mrs. Hudson has kept touch with me and almost constantly offers me food and company, I think she’s so adjusted to your chaos that quite is unsettling her at the moment. I do visit her when I have a quiet day in the surgery which sadly is not very often at the moment; the cold is seeping into London and I fear that cases of flu will only continue to fluctuate.
As the colder days inch closer I find myself wishing for you to be at my side, the warmth of a fire will never compare to your arms tucked in mine as we stroll down the pavement. Your smile as we reminisce about cases just closed. The way I’d force you into several layers of clothing before leaving the apartment. That ratty old blanket which you so loved to adorn on chilled mornings.
I acknowledge that you do not take to sentiment well; but you shall never receive this letter. As your body lays at the bottom of those horrific falls, never to arise. Without your company my nerves have taken a toll, the way I was when we first met. Stamford telling me about how you were looking for someone to go halves on a nice apartment you’d located, that was too heavy for your purse. How time has skipped us by.
I will forever hold your memories close to my heart.
Lov- Regards,
John,Watson.
