Chapter Text
Jade wasn’t surprised when she saw the princess clamber through her window in the wee hours of the night, the familiar rustle of leaves from the tree outside her window announcing her arrival. She may be mad at Jade for leaving, but the girl knew her friend probably needed comfort ahead of the wedding.
“I can't stay long, I’m leaving," Kit said, shifting from foot to foot like she was about to bolt back out the window, “Do you want to come with me?”
“Kit, you know I can’t and I don't think you should go either. Where are you even going to go?”
“Anywhere, not here,” Kit juts out her chin defiantly, “I can’t marry him. I can’t be who they need me to be… I’m going to explore like my dad did. See the world.”
“Running away isn't the answer,”
“Staying isn’t either. I won’t even have you by my side to bear it.” The truth of it hit Jade square in the chest.
“I’ll be back once I’m fully trained. I’m coming back to serve Tir Asleen, that was a part of the deal.”
“And how long is that going to take?”
“About three years. Maybe less if I work hard enough.”
“Ok, I’ll see you in three years then,” she turned to move back towards the window, clearly annoyed Jade wouldn’t drop everything to go with her. Jade couldn’t let this be their goodbye.
“No, wait! Please stay the night at least, decide in the morning,” Jade moved over and peeled back the thick velvet blanket embroidered with her name on the hem. A gift from Kit when they were 12 after the first time the princess had sneaked into the loft above the barn and saw that she only had a thin horse blanket to keep cover with.
Kit stared back at her for a long beat before she started shrugging off her traveling jacket and toed off her boots. “I’ll stay, but I’m gone at first light.”
“Ok,” Jade agreed, accepting this small concession, wrapping her arm around Kit's waist from behind. It’s the only way they fit on the small mattress now, but both secretly enjoyed it more than they wanted to acknowledge. They didn't talk as there was nothing left to say really, just listened to each other's breath until they drifted off.
Kit awoke and she doesn't know if it was the rocking motion or the soft sleepy whimpers that fell from Jade's lips but she found that she’s twisted in Jade's arms so they're face to face, one of her legs pressed up between Jade's. She sucked in a harsh breath that woke Jade who took a second to catch up to their position and the ache in her center.
“I’m so sorry,” Jade apologized as she tried to disentangle their limbs but Kit threw out a hand holding her in place.
“Do that again,” she husked, unable to control the lust that was flaring up in her stomach. Kit watched the gears turn in Jade's head as a hundred emotions flash across her freckled face. Finally, her worried brow schooled itself into a calm and controlled look and a smirk pulled at her lips.
“Is that an order, Your Highness?” She asked low and teasingly, sweet as honey. There was no disgust, only a challenge that Kit readily accepted as if she was simply asked if they wanted to race their horses out to the rocks where they liked to train away from prying eyes.
“Yes, that’s an order,” she replied, trying to match the knight’s tone but there’s a desperate rasp to her voice she wished she could control.
“As you wish, Princess,” Jade replied smoothly and she began to rock. Jade thinks she must be dreaming as she rutted against the royal’s leg, spurred on by Kit's hand on the small of her back pulling her in. Kit watched her with parted lips and shallow breaths that puffed against Jade's cheek. She wanted to lean forward and kiss her but she didn't know, despite the little game they found themselves playing, if that would be alright.
Kit's hand traveled down over the curve of her ass and gripped her thigh, hiking her leg up higher over her hip, pulling their bodies flush together, breathing each other's air. The rough handling and full body contact made Jade let out a throaty moan and she threw her head back getting lost in the pleasure. The princess leaned forward and pressed a hesitant kiss to her now exposed collarbone. Jade closed her eyes to fully feel the hot, wet mouth trailing kisses up and down the column of her neck and hummed her approval. She could feel herself completely soaked through her undergarments and wondered if Kit could feel her wetness, hoped, she could feel it and know it was all for her.
Kit sucked at a particularly sensitive spot just below her jaw and a shock of pleasure ran down her spine. Her hand flew to the back of Kit's head, tangling her fingers into short locks to hold her into place. She began to rock harder, seeking release despite wishing they could stay here forever. The ragged breathing in her ear and strong nip at the flesh below her jaw sent her tumbling over the edge and she came hard on her princess’s thigh, trying to hold back a loud keening cry.
She tightened her grip in Kit's hair and pulled her roughly back. The obscene, wet pop of the princess’s lips pulling away from her neck made the heat flare between her legs again. Kit looked back at her in awe of what they had just done, pupils blown wide.
“I would very much like to kiss you now, Your Highness,” Jade whispered, their lips already practically touching.
Kit nodded and moved in first, Jade rushing to meet her. Their lips collided, and the soft press of their lips had them melting even further into each other. Game temporarily forgotten, they explored each other’s mouths, letting their tongues roll languidly against each other like they had always done this. Like Jade, a lowly stable hand, wasn’t kissing the crown princess of Tir Asleen who was promised to the prince of Galladoorn on the eve of their wedding, but rather someone who could be her’s.
Emboldened by the needy whimpers dripping from Kit's mouth, Jade used their locked legs to twist and pushed Kit back into the mattresses.
“Do you need further assistance, Your Majesty?” She crooned down at the girl below her and delighted when Kit gave another silent nod, thrilled that she and she alone had rendered the cocky princess speechless.
This is certainly not a knight's duty but the way Kit is looking up at her, wide eyed and wanting, makes her feel like she's already slayed 100 dragons. She pressed her knee up and reveled in the hiss Kit immediately let out.
“That's for you, Princess, take what you need,” she rolled her hips and Kit matched her obediently. She skimmed her hand up the front of her tunic and palmed her breast earning her another moan. Rolling her nipple through the fabric, she leaned in for another kiss, greedily memorizing the hot slide of their lips. Kit's movements became more frantic, already close.
“You look so pretty on your back, Princess. Such a shame I don't get to see it more often when we spar,” It's a shot in the dark, trying to stroke her ego and she wants to laugh when it works. Kit comes with a shudder underneath her and Jade thinks she’ll feel the quake in her bones for the next three years.
The realization that this was a goodbye hit her and she vowed to work twice as hard as anyone else in training to make sure she could come back to Kit early. Married or not, she would be by her side. She looked down at the disheveled girl and was filled with so much longing she was worried she would start to cry. Cursing her station, she wondered if in another lifetime they would have been together.
“I think I should go,” Kit said solemnly, her gaze falling far off past the window, “It’ll be first light soon,” Jade's heart cracked as she rolled off the smaller girl. She wanted to beg her to stay, but knew it would do no good as she’ll be leaving for the Shining Legion herself the following day. Either way they’ll be separated.
“This isn't a goodbye,” Kit promised, leaning in for a final kiss, “We will see each other again. You're going to be a great knight,” Her voice was thick with unshed tears and Jade scrambled for a new solution when they heard a commotion break out below.
