Chapter Text

It had taken an hour and multiple complaints from Iketeru and Hachitai, but he finally settled on a beautiful whisky-colored band with a sparkly topaz gem. It was perfect.

"Mitsuoooo! That's such a boring design, won't he want a real Diamond?" Haichitai whined as he sipped on his overly complicated boba drink. Mitsuo promised that since they helped he would treat them to boba after, so now they were doing just that.

"His favorite color is blue, and the Diamond industry is a scam." Mitsuo continued to walk through the food court, not giving in to his brother's tantrum.

"Ok fine, then why did you pick a brown band, why not gold, that's much more classy, you want him to marry you don't you?" Ok, that struck a nerve.

First of all, he has never seen the color of Uramichi's eyes in the sun because if he had he'd know that the band matches them perfectly. He thought. Second, "Haichitai we've been over this Uramichi and I can't get married." They sat down at a small round table, so the three of them could sit, finish their drinks, and talk.

"Wait, you can't?" Haichitai was now confused

"No. The laws in Japan still state that marriage is between a man and a woman." Mitsuo was irked, he loved his brother, but he hated when the subject of his inability to be married to the person he loved was brought up because he despised that in his country gay people could not get legally married.

"I thought that it was chan-" Haichitai was interrupted by another quick comment from his brother.

"Well it wasn't"

"Oh." He should give up now.

"Wait, you really can't get married? Iketeru asked innocently.

If you were to ask Mitsuo what he thought of the people he loved, he would tell you that they could do no wrong, that they were perfect in every way, gems, angels, his precious babies to love and protect, and he would let nothing hurt them. At this moment though, he very much wanted to, at the very least, give Iketeru a flick in the nose, because come on.

"No, gay marriage is not legal in Japan." Mitsuo clarified

"That should be changed," Iketeru stressed, still not sensing the topic's sensitivity.

"I agree." He was only slightly defeated.

" So Uramichi isn't a deadbeat, cause I was starting to think that all this time an-"

"Haichitai, no. I'm pretty sure the first thing Uramichi will do when it's legal is take me down to a court, but in the meantime, I want to have at least something..." He drifted.

He took this time to look down at the small jeweler's bag that now rested on the table. Hoping that Uramichi would see this as an "I would marry you right now if I could I would have done that years ago, but the laws are unfair, and the timing has never been right." Ring. He just wanted Uramichi to see that he loved him, and he wanted to show his love to the whole world sometimes.

"Why not have a marriage ceremony anyways? Who said it had to be legal." Iketeru interrupted his thoughts with a whole new set of thoughts. Uramichi would sob at the idea of a ceremony. His sister would be there, and my family. He loves our family.

"Oh please Mitsuo, get married! I want to be your best man! Please!" Hachitai's eyes were glazed over at the thought of his brother having a "real" wedding.

"Can I be a groomsman?!" Iketeru begged.

"Guys calm down, I haven't even mentioned anything about the ring to Uramichi, but a ceremony with the family could be nice." The two other men squealed in delight.
