Chapter Text
Morgan watches the news anchors report with rapidly increasing horror. They knew it was always a chance. That after Ducky had proclaimed Alex as his nemesis, that after Alex took Ducky off the no kill list, that after Hawk was killed in one of their ensuing fights, that it would end like this.
That it would end with Ducky’s body, black and blue, finally, unthinkably going limp.
They knew how Alex felt about the hero society when Hawk got captured by the Greater Good. And when they recovered him, unrecognizable and somehow unchangeable even with Alex’s many abilities. It had been the use of some overly complicated reality experiment gone wrong. Or maybe gone right. It was no secret that no one had trusted Hawk to truly be a hero. Many people had suspected them to be evil, and only joining Hero Society as a way to infiltrate and destroy them from the inside. Far too many people thought similarity. “I mean, how could it be good, when it was created by Alex”
It just hadn't hit them until now. But it should’ve. They should’ve known. They should’ve known the first time Alex broke their No-Kill list and killed Chad. They should’ve known when Alex killed Dave. When Alex killed Diego. They should’ve known that Alex was no longer the same. That he had changed at a fundamental level. But they didn't want to admit it. Couldn’t admit it, until Alex forced them too.
By doing the one thing Morgan would never have expected Alex to do. By killing Ducky. And now, Alex was returning to their apartment. And Morgan was so, so scared.
