Summary:

“I don’t care if he threatened my life, he’s not going to harm my ma—best friend,” Enid was quick to catch herself before her massive slip up. She glanced at Wednesday nervously.

Wednesday raised an eyebrow in amusement and laughed. Enid had never heard her laugh until now.

“What’s so funny?!” Enid furrowed her eyebrows at the girl next to her. Only Wednesday would laugh about almost dying.

“I know, Enid,” Wednesday seized her laughter and rubbed soothing circles with her thumb on Enid’s cheek. Enid shivered at the touch.

“You know… what?”

“I know that I’m your mate.”

OR

Enid has yet to tell Wednesday that she’s her mate. During her second full moon, she saves Wednesday from bleeding out, and these events encourage her to confess… or try to, at least. Wednesday might know more than she lets on.

Work Text:

The werewolf enjoyed nights like these. She loved feeling the wind pass through her fur as she darted off to chase any wild animal she saw in sight. Although, her human self might not have enjoyed it as much.

She loved to admire the beautiful goddess of a moon in all her glory. She loved being at peace and alone with her thoughts, for once. Maybe that was why Wednesday enjoyed her solitude so much.

A few senior furs had asked for her to join them for the next full moon, but she was quick to say ‘no thanks’ with the most polite tone and the most artificial smile she could muster.

Some were going to be at the Lycan cages, whereas these older furs could roam free. She didn’t want to hang out with the people who didn’t give her the time of day before she could transform. Some even made fun of her. Why would she want to hang out with the people who never believed in her to begin with, or who bullied her relentlessly for being a “half-wolf”?

She couldn’t count how many love letters she had taken in from underneath their door once she came back from break. A girl kicks a Hyde’s ass once and suddenly she’s the one for you?

However, those letters she stuffed in her drawer had been gradually disappearing. She could’ve sworn she had more just the other day.

Enid opted to be alone for this full moon since it would only be her second time shifting. It took a lot of convincing—she’d had to use her irresistible puppy dog eyes on Principal Weems.

Transforming didn’t hurt as much as the first time, but it was still pretty unpleasant. She was told she would get used to it and she really hoped she would, sooner rather than later.

She hated hearing the noises her bones made as they cracked and reworked themselves. If she could, she probably would’ve passed out just from the noises alone. She knew Wednesday would undoubtedly enjoy the show.

Wednesday…

Every time Enid thought about the dark and brooding goth girl, her heart thumped rapidly in her chest. Even in her wolf form, all she could think about was Wednesday Addams. Her wolf had a burning desire to always be close to the other girl—a desire that Enid had to keep at bay when she was back to normal.

The blonde thought she knew why. Only because of the stories her grandpa used to tell her.

Her mother had explained nothing to her, assuming she would never amount to anything since she couldn’t transform. Her father didn’t bother trying either, he just followed his wife around like a lost puppy.

Even as a child, she felt the disappointment oozing from her mother. Enid was the only one of the Sinclair siblings that had a very slow werewolf progression.

Her grandparents were the only family members who made her feel normal and loved. Enid always felt they were better parental figures than her own parents.

Her grandma was the only human in the family, and many relatives shunned her. Some even despised her grandpa for marrying her. Enid never understood why. She was a marvelous woman, and he was a magnificent man. Grandma Dahlia and Grandpa Adam Sinclair were wonderful, and they were always there for little Enid.

She missed her grandparents deeply. Her wolf whined at the thought of them. She yearned to feel their love again—a love she never felt with her parents.

Long ago, Grandpa Sinclair had told her how he found his mate, her grandma, as she sat snuggled up against his chest watching his favorite romance movie (that was probably why Enid enjoyed them so much now). His storytelling fascinated Enid, and she always asked for a new story before bed. It was one of the few ways she could fall asleep.

He had explained how he had saved her grandma from attackers when he was just sixteen years old. It was his first time transforming. He had been a late bloomer, just like Enid (although her own father failed to mention that to her. Wasn’t that something you should tell your daughter, who was also a late bloomer?) The young boy got a rush of adrenaline as soon as he heard the blood-curdling girlish screams. Before he knew it, he felt his body crack, and he soon was growing silver fur.

Before long, his silver-haired wolf settled his eyes on the young lady who was fending off other wolves. He immediately knew she was his mate.

He fought off two white wolves who were desperately trying to get to her. He recognized their scent as wolves from their rival pack.

The wolves hastily ran away once they recognized who it was that was protecting the younger woman. A Sinclair.

The night Enid transformed, her mind immediately went back to that story. She had completely forgotten about it, until the day Wednesday nearly died from Crackstone, Laurel, and Tyler. Yuck, Tyler… Enid growled at the thought of him.

Everyone used to say Enid could have been Adam’s child instead of Murray’s. She was exactly like him. He had kind blue eyes and shaggy blonde hair. He was outgoing and always loved helping people.

Adam Sinclair was the glue that held the family together until he passed. As soon as they buried him, she witnessed her family slowly fall apart.

Grandma Dahlia died of a broken heart the very next day. Esther despised Enid even more after that. Murray stopped defending her. Her brothers became distant. Enid felt what little love they had for her, slowly slip away.

She missed her grandparents dearly, especially her grandpa.

A twig snapping in the distance, followed by a loud thud, interrupted Enid’s thoughts. Her ears perked up at the commotion. She growled to let out a warning to whoever was near. She didn’t trust herself in her wolf form yet. Who knows what she might do on an impulse?

She sniffed the air. The scent coming from the direction ahead of her was awfully familiar. Ink, old books, and cinnamon. But she also smelled… blood?

She walked over, her head low and on high alert. It had rained. There were too many smells all at once, the many scents overwhelmed her.

Her paws made sloshing noises as she circled the tree. The wet mud splattered back on her legs. She felt the dirt and grime cake into her nails. She would definitely need a bath later.

Soon, she came face-to-face with a dark-haired girl slouched behind the tree.

Wednesday.

The goth girl was lying against the bark, her lip cut open and her cheek all black and blue. Her hair was all wet and muddy. She had passed out, and it looked like she was bleeding even more from a deep gash on her abdomen. Her breathing was shallow.

Enid whimpered at the unsettling sight. Who did this to my mate?

Enid tried waking the shivering girl by nudging her with her snout, but it didn’t work. She then tried lightly tugging on Wednesday’s sleeve with her canines. That didn’t work either.

The wolf whined. She tried again with another loud whine. The shorter girl stirred, but still hadn’t opened her eyes.

Enid barked, starting to panic. She looked around frantically to see if anyone was around to help. But no one would be out here at this time of night.

“If you don’t shut your trap, I will filet your tongue,” a raspy voice spoke out.

Enid turned her head, her ears perking up at the voice of her mate. With little thought for the consequences of her next action, she took a big lick at the shorter girl’s face.

“Sinclair!” Wednesday spat out. She didn’t have enough energy to push the giant dog away.

Enid backed away quickly, her ears going flat once she realized what she did.

Wednesday’s eyes closed again, and Enid let out another loud bark.

“What an unpleasant way to die, bleeding out next to a sopping mutt. I thought I would go out with much more grace,” Wednesday mumbled out dramatically. Enid growled at the insult. I’m not a mutt!

She promptly brushed that jab to the side once she realized Wednesday had gone back to being unconscious. She was losing a lot of blood.

She couldn’t just let her best friend bleed out against a tree in the middle of the pouring rain. What kind of potential mate would she be if she did that?

Enid stood on her hind legs as she scooped Wednesday up with her gigantic paws. Wednesday would definitely not enjoy this, but she didn’t have a choice.

The wolf carried her bridal-style all the way to the school gates.

It was well past 2 a.m. Weems usually left the gates unlocked for the werewolves that were out all night. Most were in the Lycan cages, but some, like herself, got special privileges. All she had to do was flash those pearly whites and puppy dog eyes.

Enid did not want to be in the cages with the rest of those slobbery idiots. Wednesday would inform her she was also one of those slobbery imbeciles, but the blonde refused to identify as one herself.

Enid nudged the gates open harshly with her large snout and sprinted into the school. Luckily, no one was awake at this time of night to see Wednesday in this state. She would never forgive her if people had seen her in such a vulnerable position. She had a reputation to uphold!

It would’ve been a weird sight to see an enormous wolf on her hind legs carrying such a petite girl.

The wolf hoped Thing was there to treat Wednesday’s injuries. She wouldn’t be able to turn back to her human form until dawn.

She was in such a rush that she almost cracked a piece of the railing she had bumped into while she was running up the stairs to Ophelia Hall.

Enid got to their room, panting. She could barely fit through the door, but she made it work.

She barked softly to wake up a sleeping Thing who was lying down flat against her colorful pillows and surrounded by stuffed animals.

Thing woke up immediately once he saw Wednesday being held by a ginormous werewolf.

Everyone could distinguish Enid from the other wolves, just from her vibrant fur and tender eyes. Enid always got agitated when Yoko would tease her and say she was more of a golden retriever than a wolf.

Thing ran and vaulted up onto the other bed across the room. He patted Wednesday’s bed and Enid slowly put Wednesday down onto her black silk sheets. She made sure her head was safely and comfortably on the pillow.

Finally, she was back on all fours. Running on just her back legs wasn’t the most comfortable position to be in. But she would do anything for Wednesday.

Her eyes followed Thing as the hand scrambled to get the first aid kit from their bathroom. He quickly climbed back on the bed and started taking out bandages, rubbing alcohol, and other medical tools out of the kit.

Enid licked the fresh blood off of Wednesday’s face and the dry blood on her black sweater from where she was still badly bleeding. She rubbed her head against the girl’s chest lovingly. She wanted to be near her heartbeat.

Wednesday was going to be okay. She had to be.

Thing tugged at the wolf’s fur. Ouch! Enid yelped and let out a low growl. He needed to get started, so Wednesday wouldn’t lose any more blood. But Enid’s big furry head was in the way.

Enid hopped onto the bed beside Wednesday’s sleeping form and curled up close to her, her head on her huge paws as she observed Thing while he worked his magic. It also gave her time to admire Wednesday’s face in such a peaceful state—besides the fact she was bleeding out.

Most of Wednesday’s wounds did not seem to need stitches. Only the deeper cut on her midriff. The wolf was worried. What the hell happened to the poor girl? What kind of trouble had she gotten into this time? Enid would murder anyone who dared harm her Wednesday. Her mate.

Thing used his skills and stitched the girl’s wound closed with ease.

The disembodied hand crawled on Enid’s back once he was done and gave her a gentle pat on the head. Her tongue darted out to give him an affectionate lick on his knuckles as a thanks.

Thing flicked the lights off and sleep finally overtook the wolf. That was, until she was woken up a few hours later by a loud groan.

She opened her eyes to see Wednesday struggling to sit up. Enid barked and pawed at Wednesday’s leg. She was going to ruin her stitches!

“Didn’t I tell you to shut up?” Wednesday groaned as she rubbed her temple. Her remark didn’t have as much bite to it. With a heavy sigh, she laid back down. She couldn’t get up right now with such fresh stitches. She was too weak.

Enid tilted her head with a whimper. She wanted to know what happened. It was like Wednesday could read her mind.

“It was a minor mishap.”

If Enid could roll her eyes properly, she would have. The wolf huffed at the downplay of Wednesday’s injuries.

“I was investigating when suddenly that moronic stalker ambushed me,” Wednesday explained. She turned her head to the side. She was in such close proximity to Enid’s big snout. The giant, puppy-like wolf let out a whine.

“I know. He bested me. I was distracted by... something. I could’ve easily taken him if I was not,” the goth girl said as she combed her fingers through Enid’s golden fur. Enid leaned into the blissful touch. What was the girl exactly distracted by? Wednesday never got distracted easily. Enid would have to remember to ask her later.

Wednesday stared into the wolf’s yellow eyes as she continued to pet her. Enid’s monstrous werewolf form absolutely fascinated her ever since she first laid eyes on her that night.

Enid admired those drowsy obsidian eyes. She couldn’t help but foolishly lean forward and lick Wednesday’s cheek.

“Enid…” Wednesday gritted out, a warning tone in her voice. “If you do that one more time, I will skin you alive and make a rug out of your fur.” Enid whimpered.

Wednesday looked back at the wolf again. The girl might be cold and cruel, but she felt her black heart break at the wolf’s pitiful whimper.

“I’m… sorry,” Wednesday said hesitantly. Enid tilted her head at the girl, her big floppy ears perked up. Wednesday Friday Addams? Apologizing?

Enid leaned closer to her mate and cuddled into her chest. She was mindful not to go anywhere near her stitches.

Wednesday sighed, trailing her fingers up again to comb through Enid’s fur. She then scratched behind her ear. The werewolf groaned in delight.

Wednesday felt partially guilty for being so rude to Enid, especially after everything they’d been through together. She could allow just a tad bit of affection, right? Although, she still hated it. It was an uncommon occurrence for Wednesday to show any form of affection—which Enid respected and never pushed her for.

The ravenette leaned down and placed a delicate kiss on top of the wolf’s head. If Enid’s wolf form had a tail, it would’ve been wagging uncontrollably.

Enid could hear Wednesday’s heart thud in her chest as Enid snuggled even closer. She wanted to be as close to Wednesday’s heart as possible. She needed to hear that she was okay. That she was alive.

Soon enough her breathing evened out, and they both fell into a peaceful slumber, cuddled up against each other.

In the morning, Enid awoke to a pink blanket draped around her naked body.

Her head was still on… wait a minute. She looked up, blinking away the grogginess as she saw those ebony eyes peering back at her. Enid’s cheeks immediately flushed and her heart leapt in her throat.

She was naked and on top of Wednesday Addams. Oh god, wait until Yoko hears about this.

Wednesday didn’t stop staring at the wolf on top of her. “Good morning, mia lupa. How did you sleep?” She smirked smugly.

Enid suddenly remembered Wednesday’s injuries and tried to get off of her, but the goth girl held her down tighter. She gripped her hands around Enid’s pink blanket.

“How did I sleep?!” Enid huffed, looking up at Wednesday from her position on her chest. “How did YOU sleep?! You were the one who almost bled out, Wednesday! I could kill you for that!”

Enid gritted her teeth in vexation. Wednesday Addams was going to be the death of her.

“But I didn’t,” Wednesday said. Enid was clearly frustrated and Wednesday did not understand why. She was alive, wasn’t she?

“You don’t get the point, Wends!” Enid pulled the blanket around her closely, suddenly remembering she was still bare. Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

“Every time you go out there doing your stupid little investigations, I never know if you’ll come back! Do you know how hard it is? I hate seeing you get hurt, especially after everything that’s happened. I don’t like when I’m not there to protect you.”

Wednesday frowned at the girl. “I’m an Addams. I don’t need protection.”

“Ugh! You’re such a stubborn idiot!” Enid scooted off of the girl so as to not put any pressure on her wound and laid on the other side of the bed while making sure the blanket was still covering her body. Enid then laid her head on the other pillow beside Wednesday.

Wednesday instantly missed the warmth.

“I’m sorry if my investigations worry you. I should’ve taken your feelings into account. Next time, I will be more careful.”

“Next time, I am coming with you,” Enid demanded, trying not to show her surprise. Wednesday Addams had apologized to her twice in under twenty-four hours. “Or there won’t be a next time,” she added.

Wednesday turned her head to look at Enid, who was now facing her on the other side.

“Thing told me what you did,” Wednesday began. “You are extraordinary, Enid. I only survived because of you.”

Wednesday’s cold black eyes softened as she looked into those baby blues. Enid smiled and her blush turned into a darker shade of red this time.

Her smile made the shorter girl feel weak. Am I bleeding out again?

“Wends… I would do anything for you,” Enid said softly, admiring the countless freckles on her roommate’s face. She never got to see them up close. The blonde wanted to reach out and trace them with the tips of her fingers. They were beautiful.

The girls were in their own little bubble, staring at each other for a few minutes. They were at peace. When it was just them, they were always at peace. They felt at home.

Enid suddenly remembered why Wednesday got injured in the first place and went wide-eyed.

“Wait—did you see the stalker’s face?! I swear to god when I get my claws on them I will—,“ Enid was cut off when she felt a cold, calloused hand cup her cheek. Enid put her own hand on top, she hoped Wednesday wouldn’t pull away.

“Enid.”

“Y-yes?” Enid stammered.

The blonde gulped nervously at the closeness.

“I’m not worried about him right now. Xavier is harmless,” Wednesday spoke casually, like she didn’t just spill who the stalker was to Enid. Someone who literally goes to the same school as them, someone who was supposed to be their friend, someone who literally attacked Wednesday last night while Enid wasn’t there to defend her!

“Xavier?! He literally stabbed you! How are you being so calm about this?”

“I had Thing stop by to give him a little present this morning. I will be fine. We will be fine.”

Enid let out a little snicker. “Of course you did.”

The werewolf bit her lip anxiously as she thought about what Wednesday said last night. “Why were you so distracted?”

Wednesday sighed. She knew Enid would ask eventually. Enid remembered every little detail and always hung onto every word that Wednesday said.

“I was walking out of Uriah’s Heap when I heard that despicable chime go off on my cellular device. Xavier was sending me pictures of you, threatening your life.”

Xavier somehow knew Wednesday’s feelings for Enid and used it against her like kryptonite. He was so incredibly envious that Enid could steal Wednesday’s attention so easily. Wednesday found him completely and utterly pathetic.

“That buffoon jumped me from the alley right after.”

Enid’s claws unsheathed and Wednesday stared in awe.

“I know that I’m your mate,” Wednesday said calmly, like she didn’t just drop another huge bombshell on the werewolf.

“Wh- I- But… You?” Enid ripped her hand away from Wednesday’s hand that was on her cheek and stuttered under the goth girl's intense gaze. She felt her face burning up even more. Wednesday could definitely feel it.

“I would like to court you,” Wednesday said nonchalantly as she inched closer to Enid, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind the girl’s ear before going back to caress her cheek.

“C-court… me?” Enid pointed to herself in shock.

Wednesday smirked, a dimple denting her cheek. “Yes. You.” She turned to the side fully, careful not to hurt her stitches, and pointed at Enid with her free hand. Her other was still softly caressing Enid’s rosy cheek.

“Like… actually?” she said, chewing on her bottom lip. Enid couldn’t tell if this was a dream or not.

Wednesday nodded, still gazing resolutely at her love. Enid swore she saw her eyes flicker down for a millisecond.

“This has to be a dream. No way in hell would Wednesday Addams ever like—oomph.“ Enid was cut off from her self-deprecating spiel when a pair of soft lips landed gently against hers.

Enid immediately gripped the back of Wednesday’s neck, deepening the kiss. The shorter girl hummed in content. She enjoyed the little pricks of Enid’s claws against her nape. The sensation made her shudder in delight.

If this is a dream, I might as well go all in. Enid really hoped this wasn’t a dream, though.

The way Wednesday kissed was everything Enid imagined, and more. She was so delicate, the way she dragged her lips along Enid’s. It was unbearably soft, and unhurried in a way that made Enid feel like they had all the time in the world.

Wednesday kissed Enid like she was the most precious thing to exist. Like she was made of porcelain and would break if she kissed her any harder.

Wednesday tasted like dark chocolate, and Enid couldn’t get enough. She made a mental note to buy some more chocolates for her later today. That was the only sweet thing that Wednesday enjoyed tasting—besides Enid.

The werewolf sighed through her nose, melting further into the smaller girl. Her hands came to rest on the base of Wednesday’s neck, her thumbs tracing the column of her throat. Wednesday made a small noise at the contact, and Enid’s head began to spin as she kissed her a little more firmly.

The blanket slid down a bit, revealing Enid’s collarbone as their kiss deepened. But the girls didn’t pay any mind. They were preoccupied.

Eventually, they had to slow things down. Wednesday’s hands had started to wander to Enid’s exposed shoulders and neck, and although Enid felt a thrill at the thought of taking things further, she was literally about to pass out. (It turns out, breathing is actually pretty important).

They separated with a soft smack, breathing heavily. Enid‘s forehead rested gently against Wednesday’s, and the tips of their noses brushed lightly.

Enid focused on slowing her breathing, taking in Wednesday’s intoxicating scent. The scent of blood still lingered, but the faint aroma of ink and cinnamon overpowered it.

The goth girl smiled brightly at Enid, and the other girl quickly gave her a peck on the cute little dimple that appeared.

Enid admired her mate’s rare smile when suddenly she remembered something. She abruptly sat up, almost smacking her head against Wednesday’s.

“Oh, God. I’m still naked!”
