Work Text:
Katsuki is usually the get off and go type.
Being a hero means he’s never really off the clock, but when he doesn’t have to be at the agency, all he wants to do is go home, and he stays there as much as possible.
But it’s one of those rare nights where he feels like doing something else for once. Nothing crazy, but he could go for a quick stop somewhere on his way home. It wouldn’t kill him.
There’s a bar three blocks from his building he goes to sometimes. There’s always a band playing that most people ignore, but it’s not that loud compared to other similar shitholes he’s stumbled into. He doesn’t hate it.
So Katsuki considers taking a little detour. He doesn’t usually like spending money on a beer that’s cheaper coming out of his own refrigerator, but he got paid today anyway. Might as well.
It’s busy tonight. Not terrible considering some of the shoulder to shoulder clubs he’s gone to for Denki and Eijirou, but it’s packed enough that no one notices him walk in.
He knows that when he’s out of his costume, he’s not that recognizable, but still, the freedom to grab a beer without having to sign an autograph isn’t lost on him.
It looks like an easy night.
One drink, and he’s out.
There’s a gap between him and the bar, and he catches sight of the bartender, a girl with four arms and bright orange hair that talks too much for his liking, but she’s occupied enough that he thinks he won’t be bothered except to pay his tab.
She smiles at a customer across from her and nods as she grabs a glass from below the counter, and Katsuki doesn’t care enough to look to see who it is, except for some reason he looks anyway.
It’s more of a blink in a different direction, a careless glance meant to be so fleeting he’d hardly know he saw anyone, except the face that smiles back at her, friendly like she’s not a stranger is a face that makes Katsuki’s blood run cold.
His heart stops in his chest for a full two seconds before it beats again, and the oh fuck on Katsuki’s lips comes out with his first breath.
It’s been a long ass time since he last saw Midoriya Izuku, except then, he supposes, he called him Deku.
Deku sits alone at the bar, talking to the bartender, who seems content with whatever he has to say. He’s still small as fuck but much older, and his green hair sits wild around his head. He wears glasses now, something that can’t Clark Kent his way out of anything when you consider he has twice as many freckles as he did when he was a kid, and Katsuki sees him tug at the shirt collar around his neck.
God, he looks exactly the same except not the same at all.
For one brief moment, Katsuki considers turning around and leaving, maybe giving himself a chance to convince himself he just imagined him, but then something sends a familiar prickle down his neck, one he doesn’t let himself feel with other people anymore.
Because annoyingly it started with him.
Some loser, and Katsuki doesn’t use the term lightly, drops down onto the seat next to his, elbows on the bar with his neck craned as far as it can go so he can show every tooth he has in his mouth to Deku, and Katsuki wonders for a moment if they know each other.
If they’re coworkers or something boring like that.
If Deku came here to meet up with him.
If Deku came here to meet someone.
Katsuki’s feet move before his mind does, and they lead him straight towards the bar right for the empty seat at Deku’s other side.
What? He’s not allowed to order a drink just because Deku’s here?
Izuku, he reminds himself.
Deku was a bullshit name, and he knows it.
Yeah, everyone in his life gets a name like that, but this is different. That one had bite, and Shitty Hair doesn’t.
So he sits next to Izuku, and raises a finger to get the bartender’s attention, who only nods once before grabbing a beer and popping off the top. She slides it towards him, and Katsuki doesn’t get up and leave because maybe he doesn’t feel like it.
He leans closer slightly and keeps his head down so he can listen better.
It’s weird hearing his voice again.
It still sounds like him but just a little deeper, and he doesn’t talk as fast or as nervously as he used to, but maybe it’s just because of the conversation.
A conversation that’s boring as fuck.
Yeah, he definitely doesn't know this guy. It’s just some loser trying to take him home and doing a shit job with the delivery. Well, good fucking luck, pal, Izuku’s as dense as a brick, and he’s only got eyes for–.
Katsuki takes a hard swallow of his beer and licks the excess off of his lips.
Nope.
Suppose that wouldn’t be true anymore.
They’re not fourteen, and after all the bullshit he put him through before running off and turning into Mr. Hotshot Hero, Katsuki knows he doesn’t have the right to even think about him like that.
Stupid, cocky bastard.
Katsuki doesn’t get up.
Izuku asks him about his quirk, because of course he does. Nosy ass nerd. He’s not even rude about it like some people are, and the genuine interest comes through, which is annoying as fuck to listen to.
And of course the loser he’s talking to explains it like it’s this real big deal, like it’s the greatest quirk in the whole fucking universe, like Izuku would be lucky to see him use it, and of course Izuku is fucking fascinated. Of course he is.
Please.
It’s not even a good quirk.
What’s so special about having knees that bend in the other direction? What is he, a fucking ostrich? What good would that do?
Katsuki thinks about that for a half a second longer than he likes and decides it’s probably best that he thinks about anything else.
“What about you?”
Welp.
“Oh, haha,” Izuku laughs casually. “Oh, you know.”
“Keeping it a secret for later?”
Katsuki can hear the sleaze dripping out of his mouth.
Gag.
“I don’t have one, actually,” he says, and for the first time since Katsuki’s known him, he doesn’t say it like an apology. Good for him.
“Oh.”
“Yep,” he says. “But it’s cool, you know? I’m good with that. It used to suck when I was a kid, but it's kind of nice now. I mean no surprises, no accidents, no control to worry about. I can just live my life without having to think about it.”
He’s got a point there…
“Yeah, I guess,” he says, unconvinced. “So what’s wrong with you?”
“Fuck off,” Katsuki says, loud enough that even the bartender glances at him.
Whoops.
Izuku jerks his head towards him with wide eyes that somehow get even bigger when he sees who’s sitting next to him, and Katsuki doesn’t once take his eyes off of his face.
There’s a small smudge on his glasses he wants to wipe off.
The other guy sits up, popping up just over Izuku’s head like a weed. “Excuse me?”
Katsuki looks away just enough to give him the most bored stare he can muster.
“You heard me, asshole,” he says. “You find out a guy’s quirkless and ask what’s wrong with him? The fuck is wrong with you?”
“Ka–,” Izuku says, like he means to defend his conversation buddy, but the use of an old nickname stops him short.
It’s strange to hear it again.
Or almost hear it.
“I didn’t mean it like that,” he laughs. “No big deal, right?”
Katsuki glances over at him, sizing him up as pointedly as he can. No matter how you spin it, it’s an unfair fight, but he likes this bar, and he’d rather not cement himself as the asshole from Izuku’s memories.
No, he’s not going to kick his ass, but thinking about it sure feels nice.
Then again, who the fuck does he think he is? He’s just the big version of the punk ass kid who fucking tortured him for being quirkless. He’s not exactly the knight in shining armor Deku needs right now, and no one said he needed one at all.
Izuku.
His name is Izuku.
Midoriya.
He doesn’t get to just use his name anyway.
God, he’s such a loser.
Katsuki takes a bitter sip of his beer, and when he sets it down, he realizes they’re both still looking at him.
“Will you two losers quit fucking staring at me? Jesus Christ.”
“Oh, sorry,” Midoriya– no, Izuku says and turns back around. “So yeah, that’s my story, haha. So what do you do?”
“I work in real estate,” he says, like it’s a real bomb dropper.
“Oh wow…”
“Yeah, commercial properties mostly,” he says. “Homeowners are so fickle.”
“Yeah…”
God, this is boring.
“What about you?”
“Oh, I’m an analyst,” Izuku says.
“Oh yeah? What kind?”
“Umm, quirks and criminology, mosly,” he says. “I work with a few different hero agencies, but I can’t really say much more than that.”
“Uh huh,” he says, almost amused, like he doesn’t actually believe him.
Man, fuck this guy.
Katsuki takes a gulp of his beer. Izuku’s a nerd, but he doesn’t bullshit, and Katsuki may have never worked with him before, but if there’s any quirkless asshole who could get himself a job at a hero agency or with the hero commission, which is probably actually what this is, it would be him.
He would have been frothing at the mouth for it, and with all of his little goddamn nerd notebooks he had, he’s probably their golden boy.
Deku doesn’t fucking lie.
“So what do you do, Mr. Analyst?”
“That’s actually classified,” Izuku says.
“Uh huh.”
“He’s pretty fucking good at it too, if you ask me,” Katsuki blurts out, and it’s probably not a lie.
They both look at him again, and alright, maybe Katsuki’s tired of this. Izuku is wasting his time anyway, and he should know that.
“I don’t think anyone asked you.”
“Don’t you have a fucking condo to rent out or something?”
The realtor looks immediately insulted, but Izuku looks both shocked and partially amused.
“Fuck off,” Katsuki says, if it wasn’t clear enough. “I’m tired of having to listen to you mouth breathe.”
He looks at both Katsuki and Izuku, clearly pissed off, and with a scoff, he gets up off the seat. “Yeah, screw this.”
Katsuki bites back a satisfied laugh as he storms off. Yeah, fuck you too, buddy.
“Wait, he’s–!” Izuku calls out before turning to Katsuki. “Kacchan, what the heck!”
“What the heck?” Katsuki says in disbelief at his little baby vocabulary, and Izuku scowls at him. “He was being an asshole. Don’t tell me you like it when random losers neg you.”
Izuku rolls his eyes and goes back to his drink. “Well, it worked out great for you, didn’t it?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Katsuki says indignantly, and Izuku side eyes him. Oh. “That was different.”
“How.”
“I was like fourteen,” he says. “Shit’s different now.”
Izuku exhales and nods. “Yeah, I know. But you didn’t have to be a jerk.”
“Yeah, I did, and what do you mean you know?” Katsuki frowns.
“I’ve never worked with Best Jeanist’s agency because you have your own analysts, but I’ve seen you around.”
Katsuki nods in consideration.
Huh.
“So it wasn’t bullshit.”
Izuku looks at him, surprised. “You didn’t believe me?”
“Of course I did, but I was gonna feel real stupid telling someone to fuck off if you were just throwing some bullshit out to get laid,” he says, and Izuku’s ears darken as he blinks too quickly. “Do I look like I wanna be your fuckin’ wingman?”
“No, and I don’t need one, thank you very much.”
“Yeah, whatever,” Katsuki says, sucking his teeth.
He could use another beer.
“And I didn’t want to go home with him,” he says. “I was just being polite.”
“He wanted to go home with you.”
“So,” Izuku says, and Katsuki has nothing he can say to that.
He’s right.
So what?
He sighs and gets the bartender’s attention for a second beer before pointing his thumb at Izuku for another round of whatever he’s having.
He watches her open a can of lemon soda, pour it into a glass, and slide it towards him.
Are you kidding me?
“Really.”
“It’s tasty.”
“It’s a bar.”
“I don’t like drinking in public.”
“Yeah?” Katsuki says. “Why’s that?”
“It gives me the hiccups.”
Katsuki tuts at that. “Alright.”
Looks like he’s still a nerd.
“So…,” Izuku says, looking around at the view (the back of the bar). “Do you come here often?”
“Sometimes.”
“Me too.”
“Huh,” he says.
Interesting.
“I’ve never seen you before,” Izuku says.
“Me neither.”
Izuku looks down and takes a sip of his soda. “Guess it’s just my lucky day then.”
Oh.
Well.
Not that Katsuki cares, but yikes. Unlike some losers, he can take a hint.
He puts his palms on the counter to push himself up. “Alright, I’ll fuck off then.”
“No, wait,” he says quickly, grabbing his arm and urging him back down. “That’s not what I meant!”
Katsuki raises an eyebrow, and Izuku smiles at him carefully.
“I mean, it would be nice to catch up, I guess,” Izuku says. “It’s been a while.”
“Like a decade, probably.”
“Longer, maybe,” he says. “You look good. I mean, you look healthy.”
“Yeah, I take a multivitamin,” he says, and Izuku laughs. “You do too. Healthy, I mean.”
He laughs a little harder, and Katsuki relaxes, settling back in place like it’s okay for him to sit here and bark at anyone who tries to come bother him.
It’s not a bad job to have.
“So, how have you been?” Izuku asks.
“Fine, I guess,” he says. “What about you?”
“Fine,” he says, biting back a smile like something about that’s funny. Maybe it is.
“So you’re an analyst, huh,” Katsuki says, quirking an eyebrow, and Izuku seems delighted to be asked.
Take that, asshole.
“Yep, that’s me,” Izuku chirps.
“Just couldn’t stay away, could you.”
“Nope.”
“Good,” Katsuki says. “You’re the best they’ve got, right?”
Izuku laughs. “No, no, I wouldn’t say that.”
“Say it,” he says. “Coward.”
“No!” Izuku says, laughing harder until his head falls back, and a wave of green falls back with it. He looks so fucking soft, it’s unreal.
He was cute when they were kids. Too big of a nerd for his own good, but seeing him here like this…
Things change.
At first glance, Izuku is just another office drone with his sleeves rolled up trying to take the edge off after a long day, but his eyes still sparkle when he’s happy, and his glasses sit on the edge of a bunny-like nose.
He’s more broad now, especially around his chest and shoulders. It’s obvious he works out—not like a hero would, but it’s still something. It used to drive Katsuki crazy the way he was so convinced he could get into UA without a quirk and without putting any other work in. Yeah, he had the brains for it, but Izuku never set his sights on those courses. That wasn’t what he wanted.
“So do you still like heroes, or are you sick of us now.”
Izuku smiles. “Some of you are alright.”
“Yeah?” Katsuki laughs. “Which ones?”
“I like Shouto,” he says. “He’s nice to work with. Uravity, Ingenium, ummmm, let’s see… Eraserhead.”
“Hah.”
“What?”
“He was my teacher.”
“Really?” Izuku asks, sitting up with interest.
“Yeah, my first year.”
“That’s amazing.”
“With all those other losers too.”
“Oh, yeah, I knew you went to school with them,” he says, and Katsuki’s eyebrows raise in surprise. “I mean, we’re all the same age, so I watched you all compete at the sports festival.”
Oh right.
That’s kind of embarrassing.
“That was a long time ago.”
“It was a really good year,” Izuku says. “But yeah, that’s why I mentioned them. Didn’t think you’d care about anyone else.”
Katsuki nods. “Makes sense. They didn’t tell me they know you.”
“I’ve never brought up the association,” he admits, and Katsuki glances at him. “Oh, come on, Kacchan! I got on your nerves so bad, why would I want to do that now?”
“You mean it’s not because I’m a fucking asshole?”
“No,” Izuku says, shaking his head. “I mean, you are, but I think most people can figure that out on their own.”
Katsuki laughs, amused.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry,” Izuku says, hiding his face in his hands. “That was so rude.”
“Nah, you were right,” he says. “And you can be a little rude to me.”
“You’re not like you used to be anyway,” he says. “I mean, I didn’t follow your career because I knew I needed to let go, but I see you all the time because of work, and it’s totally different now. I mean, the Kacchan who– you didn’t want to save people back then, but you do now, and I think that’s what matters. Like, you can be a jerk, yeah, but I’ve seen you risk your life for people without hesitation when other heroes wouldn’t have, and I don’t know, I really admire that. I think there was a lot of pressure when we were kids for you to be a ringleader, and children can be so cruel, and their social hierarchy is a lot more similar to most organized criminal structures than people realize. I think you had a lot of room to grow, but I think if your environment was different, you would have been more like you are now. I mean, I think going to UA and being around people at your level changed a lot. You’re still prickly, but you’re reasonable.”
“Did you just fucking analyze me?”
Izuku laughs brightly. “I’m sorry, I can’t help it.”
“Fucking nerd.”
“You were my first case study, you know.”
“And so you got into chasing villains.”
“That’s not what happened!”
“Uh huh,” he says. “Fuckin’ mobster ass middle school Katsuki set the bar.”
“Kacchan, please!” Izuku laughs harder, a hand squeezing Katsuki’s bicep, and Katsuki doesn’t mind any of it. “That’s not it, I swear! There’s just not a lot of other jobs out there for someone who pays too much attention to people and quirks.”
“Alright, I’ll give you that one,” he says. “So you’re still gonna call me ‘Kacchan’, huh?”
“Sorry,” he says, flushing slightly. “Dynamight.”
Katsuki wrinkles his nose. As much as he likes hearing his hero name come out of his mouth, he really doesn’t want anyone to hear him and ask for a photo.
“Bakugou?”
Katsuki shakes his head. “Nope, that’s worse.”
“Katsuki?”
“Nah.”
“Then what am I supposed to call you?” Izuku laughs.
“Same shit you always did,” he says. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Kacchan, you are a grown man,” he says, and Katsuki raises his eyebrows. Izuku’s face flashes hot when he realizes what he said. “Oh.”
“Habit,” he says for him, and Izuku nods with a smile. “So what do you want me to call you?”
“Oh, I don't know, whatever you feel like is fine with me.”
“You good with Izuku, or should I stick to Midoriya until we’re more caught up?”
Izuku bites back a grin and sips on his now flat soda. “Izuku’s fine.”
“Mmk,” he says, amused. “Izuku.”
“Stop,” he says quietly.
“Nah.”
Izuku’s smile widens.
He almost says it again, but he decides to hold back for now.
For now.
“So what are you doing out here,” he says. “Bad day?”
Izuku shakes his head. “No, it’s fine.”
“Fine,” Katsuki says, no stranger to the bullshit that is fine.
“It’s my birthday, actually.”
“Oh shit, really?”
“Yeah, I had dinner with my mom earlier,” he says. “I told her I had plans later so she wouldn’t worry, but I didn’t want to go home yet, so I came here for a drink first.”
“For lemon soda.”
“Yeah.”
“Huh.”
“It was a really nice dinner, though,” he says with a bright smile.
“And no other plans at all,” Katsuki says, and Izuku shakes his head. “No work losers try to take you out?”
“No, no, I’m not really close to anyone at work,” he says, and Katsuki frowns. “Actually most of the people I work with are boring as crap. Except for the heroes, but god, what was I supposed to do? Ask them to go hang out with me? Please, I’m not that kid anymore. I’m just an analyst who works with them sometimes. Asking outside of my own department would be insane.”
“Yeah, fuck this,” he says and reaches for his phone.
“What are you doing?”
“Making a phone call.”
“What?”
“You want a birthday party with these losers, we’ll make it happen.”
“No, Kacchan, please,” he says, grabbing his hands. “Oh god, that’s so pathetic. No, please don’t do that.”
Katsuki squints.
“Please,” Izuku says again. “I have to work with these people forever.”
“Do you even know what kind of people you’re working with?”
“Good people with stressful jobs who don’t need to have birthday parties for their random work acquaintances when they should be resting.”
“Yeah, but–.”
He has no fucking idea how excited Eijirou and Cheeks would be if they got to throw him a birthday party right now. They’d lose their shit. It’d be all he’d hear them talk about for months.
But Izuku is adamant and looking seconds away from throwing up on both of them, hands still cupped seriously around Katsuki’s.
“Alright,” he says.
Izuku’s face (and grip) softens. “Thank you.”
“But I don’t fuckin’ work with you,” he says, taking advantage of the moment Izuku lets his guard down to grab his wrist and jerk him forward, forgetting briefly they’re both on stools.
“Kacchan!” Izuku cries out as he pulls him towards the door, stumbling behind him and barely able to catch his footing, and Katsuki doesn’t slow down.
“Put his shit on my tab,” he barks out over his shoulder, and he doesn’t stop until he gets them onto the sidewalk.
“Wait!” Katsuki lets go of his hand, and Izuku stumbles another step behind him. “Where are we going?”
He looks around at the evening dark and scratches his jaw.
Where are they going?
“To do some birthday shit, I guess.”
Some “birthday shit” turns out to be walking back to his apartment, because anything else would require them to get in a car and go somewhere, and without any planning at all, he’d have absolutely no idea where that would be.
He doesn’t know Izuku anymore.
Just because he hates nightclubs, doesn’t mean Izuku does, and he already had dinner, so he can’t do something easy like make him something, if he still eats like he did when they were kids, and that’s unlikely.
Nope, they’re going back to Katsuki’s place because Katsuki is an idiot and doesn’t know how to do impromptu birthday shit without Eijirou hovering over his shoulder telling him what would be really cool.
God, Izuku should have just let him call the experts like he planned to.
But the good news is, he follows him there without making him come up with some bullshit explanation as to why this is a better idea than sipping on his soda at the bar they apparently both frequent but never at the same time was.
And now he’s taken over his birthday.
Katsuki should get an award for being this stupid.
They get back to his apartment, and he switches on the lights, which are almost blinding compared to the dark little corner of a bar they met in.
Izuku looks around in awe as he works his shoes off, and Katsuki pretends like it doesn’t make him preen.
“You have a really nice place, Kacchan,” he says as they walk in.
“It’s alright,” he shrugs. It is pretty damn great, isn’t it. “Get comfortable, or whatever. I’m not gonna wait on you.”
“Oh, okay,” he smiles. “Do you mind if I use your restroom? Bars are gross.”
“Yeah,” he says, pointing towards the back. “It’s on the right.”
“Thank you,” he says and takes off.
Katsuki puts his hands behind his head and exhales.
Okay.
Think, asshole.
Birthday.
What do people do for their birthdays?
Go out with their friends?
Nerd doesn’t have those.
Go out to dinner?
Already did that.
Laser tag?
Fuck no.
Birthday cake?
Katsuki’s eyebrows raise. Now there’s an idea.
Cakes are basically just flour, milk, sugar, and eggs, and icing is just sugar and butter probably. It doesn’t matter, he can look it up. Only an idiot could fuck up a birthday cake.
He goes to his kitchen and starts digging around for ingredients. He has eggs, sure, and sugar, but regular wheat flour? Milk? It’s not looking good here.
Izuku comes in while Katsuki has his head in the refrigerator, and he pulls out with a stretch. “What are you doing?”
“I thought I had all the shit here to make a cake.”
“Oh, you don’t have to do that!”
“I know I didn’t, but it looks like I’m not going to anyway.”
Izuku offers a smile. “The thought was nice.”
“Not the point of coming here.”
“I didn’t come here to eat birthday cake, Kacchan.”
“Yeah, but– fuck.”
It’s not enough.
He should do something for him.
There’s no way he can make this the birthday he’ll never forget. Hell, it’ll probably be the one he forgets the easiest, but leaving the nerd empty handed after Katsuki was dropped in his lap like the Ghost of Bullshits Past seems like a weak move.
And Katsuki is not weak.
“I’ll just run out and get something,” he says.
“No, no, this is good,” he says, grabbing his arm. “Just getting to talk to you again means so much to me. This is really nice…”
He’s still so fucking tiny.
Katsuki raises an eyebrow. “Even though I cockblocked you earlier.”
“I don’t remember that actually happening.”
“Your little realtor buddy back there.”
“So?”
“So.”
“I wasn’t going to sleep with him, you know,” he says. “He wasn’t exactly my type.”
“Good,” he says. “Do better.”
Izuku smiles with a half laugh.
“What?”
“Nothing,” he says. “You’re just funny.”
“I’m being serious.”
Izuku looks up at him like he’s amused and lets go of the arm neither one of them realized he was still holding. “Okay.”
“Do. Better,” Katsuki says, poking his chest.
“I’m doing pretty okay, I think,” he says. “But thanks for the advice.”
Katsuki hums with a slight squint. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Mmmmmkay.”
“But you look like you’re doing great,” Izuku says. “Really nice place. Top ten on the charts. A Rolex ad…”
Katsuki raises an eyebrow at that.
“I mean, you know, bus stops,” he says with an awkward laugh. “They’re everywhere.”
“Uh huh…”
Izuku bites back a smile and looks off, flushing slightly with embarrassment.
Fuck, he’s cute.
Really cute.
He wonders what his type is.
Katsuki blinks at himself and shakes his head before turning away to find something to do with hands.
Okay, new plan time.
“Alright, let’s see if we’ve got any birthday shit in here,” he says more so to himself and opens the refrigerator again. Chicken he left to defrost? Doubtful. Onions? Maybe.
He sees the can of whipped cream on his shelf and reaches for it, either because a part of his brain thinks that whipped cream is a suitable substitute for a birthday cake or because he’s made a habit of eating it after work for stress relief. He’s not admitting to either.
He pulls the cap off and turns the can up before squeezing a full glob into his mouth.
It’s just like eating ice cream but without the full commitment.
Oh hey, this is kind of like birthday cake.
“Here,” he says and takes Izuku by the jaw. He pinches his mouth open and sprays it into his mouth.
Izuku looks at him with wide eyes, the surprise apparent on his face before it fades into something else, and then he swallows it down, licking the excess off of his lips in a single swipe without once looking away.
Ho-ly fuck.
Katsuki gives himself a little more to try to distract himself, but the look on Izuku’s face remains stuck in his throat, and the fact that Izuku didn’t yelp and run immediately after has his whole body burning.
What the fuck is he supposed to do about that?
What the fuck is he supposed to think about that?
Katsuki, you big loser.
I didn’t come here for birthday cake.
He brought him home.
“I’ve never had whipped cream straight from the can before,” Izuku says. “It’s nice. Kind of feels illegal.”
“Illegal?”
“Yeah,” he smiles, his cheeks flushed slightly. “Like… not allowed.”
Katsuki looks over his face. “You want some more?”
Izuku nods, and Katsuki pulls him back to him, pressing his mouth open with hardly any force at all, and Izuku’s lips part easily.
He sprays too much whipped cream over his tongue, the pile much higher than any person can take, and he holds onto his jaw a little longer than necessary.
Izuku blinks up to him, patient and somehow satisfied, and something snaps in Katsuki's mind.
He holds him in place and takes half of it into his own mouth with a toothless bite, and Izuku makes a small noise of both surprise and interest, closing his lips into a whipped cream covered kiss that doesn’t break.
His mouth is sticky and sweet, and Katsuki chases both at the same time. He can’t believe he just ate whipped cream out of it, what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck.
He presses Izuku against the counter, and Izuku gasps, fingers moving into his hair like tiny little bolts of static.
This is insane.
This is the weirdest shit he’s ever done in his life.
Katsuki pulls away just long enough to grab that stupid can of whipped cream and spray it into his own mouth, and Izuku pushes himself up on his toes to try to lick it out.
He swallows down what’s left and helps him up on the counter, kissing a sticky trail down his throat while Izuku spreads his legs to urge him closer.
He hears the familiar spray of air and tuts before moving back up, and he takes it from him hungrily.
Izuku licks over Katuski’s lips for whatever’s left, and Katsuki sucks the tip of his tongue into his mouth.
Soft, and wet, and sugary sweet.
This is better than any fucking birthday cake ever would have been.
Do better, his own voice echoes in his head.
Yeah.
Yeah, he can do that.
Katsuki moves to his ear, and Izuku moans softly at the contact. He must be sensitive here. “You got someone at home I should know about?”
“No.”
“Good,” he says, his tongue flicking over the curve.
“Would you care?”
“Probably not.”
Izuku pulls him up to his mouth at the answer, pleased by the idea of Katsuki not giving a shit, and that only fuels Katsuki more.
It kind of goes to his head a little bit.
He’s about to throw him one hell of a birthday party.
Katsuki urges Izuku off of the counter, and Izuku makes a small oof when he hits the floor, but he moves back to Katsuki’s mouth before he can laugh about it.
He leads him back to his room, guiding Izuku back while Izuku paws at his clothes, and they barely get into the room before Izuku has his shirt off, and he pulls away with a gasp as his hands splay across Katsuki’s stomach.
“Oh wow,” he says, feeling over him and admiring all the hard work Katsuki’s been putting in lately. “Oh my god.”
“Heh.”
Izuku touches everywhere his hands can reach, almost like he’s memorizing him. His thumbs glide over scars Katsuki’s used to people avoiding like they’re something scary, and he lets him touch as much as he wants to without giving him shit for it.
“You got this when you fought Raptor,” he says quietly, fingers ghosting over the claw marks beneath Katsuki’s collar.
“Fucker totaled my costume,” he says. “Had to get a new one.”
Izuku presses his lips to it and moves over to the rough skin over his shoulder. “Blast Wave.”
“Just grazed me,” he mutters. Actually that one hurt like a motherfucker, but he’s not about to lose points here for crying about it.
“Kacchan is amazing,” he says, just like he used to, and Katsuki’s eyes widen. What if things had been different, and he’d been a little nicer to him, and they kept in touch?
Would they have been like this?
But maybe a delayed reunion is what they needed.
Maybe he needed to get kicked around a little bit to be someone Deku could admire in a real way.
“Izuku,” he says, going for the top button on Izuku’s button up. “How do you know who gave me what?”
Izuku smiles awkwardly and looks away while Katsuki undresses him one button at a time. “Just things you notice when you work around heroes…”
“I wasn’t a pro yet for Blast Wave,” he says. Izuku looks back at him and bites his lip, and Katsuki moves down to catch his mouth. “Fuckin’ nerd.”
Katsuki reaches down for Izuku’s belt, his fingers deft at his task, and Izuku wraps his arms around his neck, pressing his body against his, not shy at all about showing him how fucking hard he is.
What a nerd, already this excited from just this much.
He urges him back towards the bed, and Izuku climbs backwards, eager eyes surveying him as Katsuki follows him, and Katsuki pulls off Izuku’s pants before going for his own.
Izuku props himself up to watch him, and Katsuki makes sure to take his time before stepping out in just the pair of slate gray boxer briefs he thankfully just bought a couple of days ago.
Hallelujah, he’s prepared.
He might also be embarrassingly hard right now, but at least the tent makes his dick look bigger.
Katsuki climbs onto the bed over him, easily getting Izuku onto his back, and Izuku pulls him to his mouth, knees caging him in like any second now Katsuki might try to up and bolt.
Not a chance in hell.
He kisses down Izuku’s body, dragging his teeth over sensitive skin, and he flicks a tongue over one of the buds on his chest.
He could do this for hours, tasting him and mapping him out without needing to use his hands, and he thinks for a moment that he just might.
There’s no need to rush anything here.
It’s not like Izuku has anything better to do.
He kisses down his stomach until he gets to a patch of green the same shade as the hair on his head, and a small noise catches his attention.
He looks up to see Izuku, body tense with a grimace on his face, and Katsuki jerks back immediately.
Oh fuck no.
“You good?”
“No, yeah, I’m fine,” he says, half out of breath.
“Izuku.”
“Really,” he says.
“Look if you’re not into it, you’re not into it.”
“No, no, no, no,” Izuku spills out as he sits up. “I’m just– if I come from this, I’m gonna die. Like a big loser death. Shame to the grave.”
Katsuki smirks with a short laught.
Nerd.
“You’re not gonna come from this,” he says.
“I might…”
Katsuki leans forward and kisses him as he reaches between their legs and deprives Izuku of the contact he thinks is going to set him off too quickly. “Nah…”
“I might,” he says again as Katsuki tugs at the waistband.
Izuku makes a small, broken noise.
“No, you won’t,” he says, hovering just off of his mouth. “You’ll wait for me.”
He surges forward to Katsuki’s lips, and Katsuki pushes him onto his back. He’s never toyed with anyone before, more into getting to the main event and getting it over with, but something about the challenge of Izuku thinking he could come just from being kissed a little makes him feel a little evil.
Izuku reaches between to touch Katsuki, and Katsuki swats him away.
“Kacchan,” he complains.
Katsuki smirks. “You can wait a little.”
He takes Izuku’s glasses away from him and sets them on the table so they don’t get broken and rolls him over onto his stomach.
Izuku exhales into the bedspread as Katsuki kisses down his back, letting his hands slide over skin that’s never seen a battle.
He’s so good and warm, practically radiating everything that makes Izuku who he is, and Katsuki follows a perfect trail of freckles down to his cute little bubble shaped butt.
He bites down on one of his ass cheeks without a second thought, and Izuku yelps in surprise.
Katsuki laughs and rubs his palm over it to soothe, and kisses the lowest dip of his spine.
This is so fucking easy.
It should be weird and awkward as fuck, but it’s not.
Huh.
Welp, not like it’s going to do him any good to unpack that now.
Katsuki pushes himself up and crawls over to the nightstand to grab a bottle of the good lube and crawls back over to him.
It’s tempting to just fuck him like this, give him but they both want, but that bastard inside his brain wants to see if Izuku really can keep it together just because Katsuki wants him to.
He pops the cap, and Izuku looks over his shoulder with interest. “Should I move?”
Katsuki grabs him by the hips and jerks him back until Izuku’s on his knees, his arms and elbows braced on the bed.
“Nah,” he says, massaging his ass with one hand. “You can stay there.”
Izuku makes a small, humiliated noise as he buries his face in his arms, but he doesn’t move or say he’s not into it.
And Katsuki guesses by the small shine at the tip of Izuku’s hanging cock that he’s more than into it.
He gets enough lube on his hand to not make a mess, and he slowly works him open with his fingers.
Izuku groans, fists gripping the blanket, and Katsuki curls into him, building a slow pace with barely any real stretch at all.
How Deku is going to take all of him, he has no idea.
Wait a minute.
“This your first time?”
Izuku gives him an incredulous look over his shoulder. “No?!”
“Well, I was just asking!”
“Does it look like it’s my first time,” he says. “Kacchan, my ass is up!”
“Heh, yeah it is,” he says, working a second finger in. “Just making sure you can take me.”
“I can take you,” he says, and it almost comes out like a hurry. Like he wants to.
“Then you’re getting the whole thing.”
Izuku makes a small noise before turning around and burying his face in the pillow.
Katsuki works him up to three, practically already fucking him while his other hand fondles him below, just teasing touches meant to make Izuku squirm.
And he squirms so beautifully for him, panting and gasping like he’s fully enjoying himself until he’s moving back against his hand, so eager to come that he’s already half out of it.
“Oh god, I’m–,” Izuku cries out, and Katsuki pulls out, forcing out a cry of frustration instead of the ecstatic end Izuku thought he was barreling towards.
“Nope.”
“Kacchan,” he says, betrayed.
“You wanna come before I fuck you?”
“No,” he says, frustrated. “So fuck me.”
Katsuki can barely hold in the laugh. “No.”
“Please.”
He leans down and nibbles on Izuku’s pretty ass, replacing the fingers he removed. “No.”
Izuku ends up flat on his stomach, and Katsuki hovers over him, fucking him with just his hand while Izuku ruts against the bed beneath him.
Katsuki pulls out again and straddles him, pressing his dick against his hole, just to tease, and Izuku whines as he moves his hips back against him.
He moves down, chest to his back until his lips are just at Izuku’s ear.
“You want me to fuck you?” Katsuki asks, his voice just a rasp.
“Yes,” he nods. “Please.”
Katsuki rolls him back over and doesn’t say a word about Izuku wrapping a fist around the base of his own dick, instead focusing on grabbing the bottle of lube as quickly as possible.
If they don’t get on with this, Katsuki is going to be the one to blow his load before the show starts.
He lubes himself up, not bothering to ask Izuku if he’s ready because he knows he is, and Izuku spreads his legs wide for him so Katsuki can line himself up.
He pushes himself in easily, a sharp breath on his lips as Izuku’s body swallows him. God, he could take two of him at once, and Katsuki would pay for the quirk to see it happen.
Izuku groans and pulls him to his chest, and Katsuki braces himself up with one hand as he builds up a good pace. God, he’s going to fill his pretty little ass up over and over again until Izuku leaks down his own thighs.
“Fuck, you feel good,” he breathes, and Izuku mouths at his ear as he raises his knees, taking him deeper and giving Katsuki a little more leverage to fuck into him.
“You’re so–,” he whimpers before his head falls back, and Katsuki fucks out another groan from his pretty swollen lips. “Fuck.”
“That good?”
“Yes,” Izuku pants out, breathless, his eyes closed in bliss as he takes whatever Katsuki gives him.
Katsuki can’t do anything but admire the view.
He grabs his thighs and thrusts into him, his focus locked on the two fields of freckles beneath his eyes and the parted lips muttering out all the little praises Izuku thinks he’s holding in.
“Kacchan is amazing.”
“So good.”
“So fucking good.”
“Right there.”
“Oh god.”
“Fuck me.”
“Just like that.”
“Oh yes.”
He never stops, and Katsuki eats up every last word that comes out of his lips.
He folds over, getting as close as he can, and Izuku keens beneath him, begging softly for more.
Izuku’s so close. He probably can’t hold back anymore, and Katsuki’s not going to torture the poor bastard, not when he feels so good on his cock and not when he’s so needy like this.
Katsuki gets real close to that sensitive ear of his and lowers his voice with a roll of his hips. “Come on, baby, let me see you come.”
“Oh fuck,” Izuku shouts, and Katsuki’s hips jerk into him, forcing out a cry that comes with a hot splash against his stomach. Izuku spasms hard with a titan grip around him, and Katsuki follows, so turned on that Izuku just did it on command that he loses his own resolve.
He holds him down against the bed and fucks him through it until the squelch becomes too much for both of them, and Katsuki pulls out, a trail of himself dripping from his pretty little hole.
Yeah, that’s his nerd.
There’s your proof.
Katsuki drops down next to him, out of breath and a little dizzy if he’s honest. Sweat clings to his skin, and Izuku lays like a starfish with the widest smile on his lips Katsuki can’t even tease him for.
“Happy fucking birthday,” he says, and Izuku erupts into a fit of giggles. “What are you laughing at?”
“I just got pro hero birthday sex,” he says with an eloquent teehee.
“Oh, shut up,” Katsuki says, only making him laugh harder.
“Dynamight whipped creamed me.”
“Oi!”
“Hehehehe,” Izuku bubbles out, and Katsuki grumbles as he pulls him to him. He giggles against his chest, completely pleased with himself and this new revelation, and Katsuki rolls his eyes.
So he’s that kind of guy.
The euphoric after type.
Heh.
Yeah, he could be into that.
He tilts Izuku’s happy face up to him and kisses his lips, relishing the smile that stretches against him.
“You’re a fucking menance.”
“Hehehehehehe.”
Nerd.
Katsuki’s morning alarm is a motherfucker.
He usually lets it go for a few minutes before he moves to turn it off, but the warmth at his side is an instant reminder that 4 a.m. isn’t for everyone.
Izuku sleeps hard next to him, his curls a mess from the softening shampoo he had to use plus the little post-shower adventure he fell into after.
Heh.
That was a pretty nice way to end a night after ending a night, if he does say so himself.
Oh, Katsuki is fucked.
Izuku had to change into some of his clothes because the alternative was sending him back home, and that wasn’t happening, so Katsuki tossed out an old t-shirt and a pair of gym shorts for him so the nerd wouldn’t have to go to bed with his khakis on.
He kind of hates that Izuku had a shit birthday though. Yeah, he had dinner with his mom, but he should be spending it with people he likes, not at some loser’s apartment who he knew once a million years ago.
Izuku hugs his pillow with a smile, still fast asleep and about as comfortable there as he can be.
Alright.
So maybe it wasn’t the worst way to spend a birthday.
Katsuki hates that he has to get up and work, but it’s too hard to find swap ins for the morning shift, and he’s not about to leave a huge, gaping hole for the villains to fuck.
That’s not what he meant, but he’s going with it.
He gets up as quietly as he can and shuffles off to the bathroom to freshen up. He could use a coffee, but his machine is loud as fuck, and he just had to be the kind of asshole who grinds his own beans.
Nope.
Not today.
He tiptoes back to his room, but in a cool way, and slips on his costume, careful not to make any noises with all of the busier components that make his costume as badass as it is. Right now, he could really go for what Momo’s got going on.
Alright, he’s good and dressed.
“You have to go to work,” Izuku says, and Katsuki looks up to see him watching him, hugging the same pillow and looking quite content.
“Yeah, I’ve got the first patrol,” he says. “You?”
“Yeah, me too,” he says. “I go in later in the morning, though.”
“You need a ride home?”
“Oh no, I live just down the street,” he says. “I’m fine.”
“Cool.”
“Yeah.”
“Well, you know where I live now, so,” Katsuki says, and Izuku perks up like a meerkat. “What?”
“Nothing,” he says.
“Don’t lie.”
Izuku smiles shyly. “That sounded like it was an invitation.”
“That’s because it was.”
“Oh,” he says, sitting back. “Really?”
Katsuki furrows his brows. “What do you mean, really.”
“I dunno, you’re just so busy, and I’m so–.”
“So… what,” Katsuki squints.
“Kinda lame making your old childhood friend hang out with you, right?
“You callin’ me a loser?!”
“No! I meant me!” Izuku laughs.
“None of that bullshit in my bedroom,” he says. “You act like a cocky bastard or you get out.”
Izuku grins at him. “Yes, sir.”
Katsuki shakes his head, amused, and grabs his eyeliner from the drawer. He tugs the lamp cord to turn a little light on and leans towards the dresser mirror so he can draw the black around his eyes.
When he finishes, he looks up to see Izuku watching him in the reflection.
“What,” he says.
“I’ve never seen you in your costume up close before,” he says. “You look good. Really good.”
Katsuki raises his eyebrows and looks over his shoulder to see Izuku blatantly checking him out.
When he said be cocky, he’s not sure this is exactly what he meant.
Oh, who is he kidding…
“Yeah?”
Izuku’s eyes flicker over him like he’s not as sleepy as he is. “Oh yeah.”
Katsuki blinks rapidly.
This little shit’s got himself a hero kink.
No, of course he does. Who does he think he’s talking to here?
Well, it’s a whole lot less weird with him than it is all the other shitty extras.
Fuck it.
Katsuki takes a couple steps towards the bed, chest first because he knows what he looks like. “You wanna see it closer?”
Izuku bites back a grin. “I think you have to go to work.”
“After, then,” he says. “Get you a real proper birthday dinner.”
“Oh, you don’t need to do that,” he says. “It’s fine, really. I had a great time.”
“Yeah, I do, shut up,” he says. “Text me what you wanna eat in case I’ve gotta stop by somewhere.”
“You’re not cooking are you?”
“Of course I am,” he frowns. “I ain’t paying someone three times what the food’s worth when I can do it myself.”
“Kacchan, that’s too much.”
“It is not, shut up.”
“It is!”
“No, it ain’t!” Katsuki says, and Izuku scowls at him like a disgruntled bunny rabbit. “Just do it, alright?”
“I can’t,” he says.
Katsuki frowns. “Why not?”
“Because I don’t have your number.”
“Yeah, you– oh.”
Right.
How has it been ten fucking years?
How is this the first time he’s ever woken up with him?
How was last night the first time they’ve ever kissed?
Did he hit his head yesterday?
Katsuki looks off and scrunches his nose. “Ask your mom then, I don’t know.”
“Don’t you think she might wanna know why…?”
Katsuki swears under his breath as he walks across the room. Yeah, he does not want to deal with that phone call.
He grabs Izuku’s phone off of the table and sends a quick message to himself.
“There.”
“Thank you.”
Katsuki looks up at him just because he wants to, and that’s when he sees the kiss splotches down his neck and collar, all pretty and marked up from a long night of happy birthdays.
He may never see him again after this, and that would be Izuku’s right, to come to his senses later and remember just how shitty things used to be, or he might just get weird about them having sex in general and disappear for that too.
And a good guy would get it.
He would be so understanding, and he would even tell Izuku up front that he would be okay with that, but Katsuki is notoriously an asshole.
And he doesn’t want to stop seeing him.
Katsuki climbs towards him and kisses him, and Izuku makes a surprised noise as he jerks away, a hand covering his mouth.
Oh fuck.
“Oh, shit, I’m sorry, fuck.”
“Morning breath,” Izuku squeaks.
“I brushed my teeth!”
“I meant mine! You can’t kiss me yet!”
Katsuki rolls his eyes. “Oh, shut up.”
He moves Izuku’s hand away and kisses him until Izuku gets over the idea that something as weak as morning breath could keep him away from him.
Some mistakes you don’t make twice.
Second chances are kind of a big deal for him.
Katsuki’s other alarm goes off, and he swears before turning it off.
“You gotta go?”
“Yeah,” he breathes, annoyed at the time. “Get something to eat before heading out if you want, and lock the door for me.”
Izuku nods. “I can do that.”
“Just so you know, breakfast is supposed to be included with this package,” he says with a mock serious frown.
Izuku mirrors him immediately. “A hero must make sacrifices.”
He laughs and shakes his head. “Fucking nerd.”
Izuku beams at him, and it doesn’t suck.
“You know which agency you’re working with today?”
“That’s classified,” he says.
Katsuki’s face falls flat, bemused. “Really.”
Izuku smiles. “Fat Gum’s.”
Katsuki nods. “Good.”
“Good?”
“Yeah, Eijirou’s.”
“Ah, Red Riot,” he says. “He’s so nice.”
“You talk to him much?”
“I don’t wanna bother him…”
Katsuki hums and checks on one of his gloves. “Make him eat lunch with you today.”
“Kacchan.”
“Okay, then I’ll make him do it,” he says and opens their text thread to inform Eijirou of his new best friend. These two idiots will love each other.
Izuku lunges forward, and Katsuki jerks his phone away, his reflexes much better than any puny office worker’s. “Kacchan, please.”
Katsuki laughs and pulls Izuku to his body, stealing a kiss while he whines against his mouth.
Loser.
His fingers graze the bare skin underneath his shorts, and he has to blink himself back before he gets carried away. Nope. No funny business. “Fuck, I hate having a job.”
“No, you don’t.”
“No, I don’t.”
Izuku smiles up at him, his hands placed strategically on his waist. “Go kick butt, Dynamight.”
Katsuki physically cringes and shakes his head. “Fucking nerd.”
Izuku laughs happily, blending into an old memory that comes back at once.
Two kids outside of a hero merch shop, both ready to explode from the sugary crepe they just shared while their moms sit on a bench together nearby.
Damn, that was a long time ago.
He hasn’t let himself think about it once until now.
“Kacchan, I got All Might! Who did you get?”
“I got All Might too!”
He kisses him again and says a silent prayer that his second chance with Izuku wasn’t just one good fuck and a can of whipped cream.
He’d be real fuckin’ good to him if he gets this…
Like the best.
Top ten hero worthy kind of treatment.
“Go to work,” Izuku says.
“You’re not the boss of me.”
Izuku laughs, and he almost grabs him and pulls him back down for the rest of the morning right then and there, but he’s right.
They’ve both got jobs to do.
Katsuki’s gotta keep the world safe, and Izuku’s gotta point guys like him in the right direction to do it.
No time for fucking around.
“See ya,” he says.
“See ya.”
Izuku pulls him back for one more kiss.
Katsuki gets a foot out of his apartment before he pulls out his phone.
He’s not going to let some nerd tell him what to do. He’s Dynamight for crying out loud.
Katsuki: make sure midoriya eats today
Eijirou: who?
Katsuki: the little green analyst nerd
Eijirou: oh okay ^^
Katsuki: and tell him how your quirk works
Eijirou: why?
Katsuki: bc i’m asking
Eijirou: i mean alright i guess 🧐 is he supposed to analyze me
Katsuki: no he just likes quirks
Eijirou: oh okay cool yeah i can do that
Katsuki: thanks
Eijirou: do you know him?
Katsuki: yeah
Eijirou: ?
Katsuki: don’t worry about it
Katsuki pockets his phone and heads off to work.
Welp, if Izuku wants to kick his ass for getting him his first real work buddy, he’s going to have to come back here and do it himself.
He’s kind of a genius for that.
