Incipere

Summary:

As they began to walk to the transport, he suddenly got the urge to ask.
“So, eh.. Why Red?”
“The Codename?” she asked back.
“Ja.” He responded and looked at her down. He was expecting anything. After all, red was the color of blood. He could imagine she gave herself the codename because of the amount of people she's killed. Or maybe it's everything she sees before, during and after mission.. Or maybe, just maybe it was given to her by someone else, and she started nicknaming herself like that afterwards.. Or maybe-
“Cause it's my favorite color.”
Oh.

When a well-known woman comes to the main KorTac base from far afar, things start to get interesting for König.
Even more interesting, when the said so woman and their squads get attacked on their way here and König and his allies are sent to defend them and bring them back to the base safely.
He couldn't just let her bleed out there…

Chapter 1: Der Anfang (The beginning)

Chapter Text

When she came to main KorTac base from the private one in Japan, many people didn't even need to read her file to know who she was. Skilled with swords, knives, guns.. She looked like she's been practicing her whole life. It looked kinda ironic, hilarious even, because she definitely wasn't taller than 5'2.

It seemed like her reputation preceeded her. Both Aksel and Horangi knew about her before. Even more people seemed to recognize her, except for König. He wasn't really the one to socialize so it only made sense, but he at least had to see her once since everyone did as well, and he could swear he's never seen her in his entire life.

She wasn't asian, so what was she doing in Tokyo? He had no idea and he definitely wasn't going to ask. He began thinking about the time they first met. How he carried her to safety..

He remembers Conor telling him the coordinates and the place where the Squads from Tokyo were said to be ambushed. They had a very strong name, so when his team came here, all 13 squads were already fighting and spreading bloodshet. Even though the ambush was unexpected, they were handling it way better than König expected.

He heard about her when the Leader of the 12th squad reported she was missing during the ambush, making König and a few more soldiers having to look for her, not knowing her whereabouts.

He began searching and a few mins after, he found her a few minutes away from the teamfight, laying on the floor, bleeding.. He  noticed she was shot, and when he looked away from her, he saw two dead bodies, one was headless. It seemed that these two lurked her out of the fight to finish her, she seemingly won the battle but sadly didn't get out without injuries. She was laying down, she fainted. So he took her in his arms and carried her back.

They sent her to their doctors and she ended up in a medbay. König didn't know what she did or where was she after, he did his job and that was all. It was around dinner time so he went to grab something to the cafeteria. There he heard somehing about the new soldiers that came. He found out there's thirteen squads and her being the leader of the 13th one. He also heard that their base got destroyed after fighting with the Taskmasters who were apparently their biggest foes. Japanese forces had enemies? Crazy. He also caught that each squad had to have a specific level in martial arts, he didn't know that before.

He was planning to go to gym before the curfew. He liked to go there late because he enjoyed training alone.

As he was walking there, someone touched his arm, startling him. He looked slightly lower, because basically there's no way someone's taller than him, and he realised he had to look way down to find a blackhaired damsel in distress that he's saved.

“Sorry I didn't mean to startle you..” she started to apologize right away, making him twitch his brows under the mask.

”You're König, right?”

“Uh, ja.. Would be me.” he answered.

“Well I'm Estella, but I'm pretty sure you've heard about me by now.. If that name doesn't live up to your expectations then Red. It's my codename..” she introduced herself to him and he found it cute. He didn't have anyone to introduce themselves like this to him before, he didn't talk a lot to anyone, only when it was needed, and he didn't make any friends either.

“but anyways, I suppose gratitude is on the spot.” when she said the word 'gratitude' he heard that she had accent, she wasn't american, nor asian, but her english accent was on point. Could she be russian..? Polish maybe..

“I just wanted to thank you for saving me. It was heroic of you.” Heroic, ha, König was glad he was wearing the mask cause she might just made him blush.

“Uh, no problem, really.. It was one of your allies that told me ya were missing, uh she had white hair, pretty tall-“

“Ah, Yelena.” she cut him off. The name was russian, so she was definitely slavic. He was surprised by her clean english accent though.

“Well, you still managed to find me and bring me there. Thank you truly.”

”N-Nein problem.” he stuttered and she thought it was cute. She could tell that he was a bit nervous just by talking to her. He's so tall though, it was an interesting sight to see; such a large man struggling to find a few words.

“Well then, König-“ she rolled his name off her tongue, and he was surprised by the way she said his name. It was so different from others, it's like it wasn't even his name at all, in a good way.

“- if you need help with anything, I'll be glad to payback it to you. My room is a few meters away from yours, the room 205. If you need anything, make sure to knock me up.” she chuckled softly and König thought it was the voice of an angel itself. So he just nodded and after he did that, she started to walk away, dissapearing between the walls of the hallway, like a little mouse. She was definitely an interesting person and König couldn't wait to have something she could help him with.
